the line between attraction and gender envy is very thin

why do I keep people using “internalised [prejudice]” when not talking about minorities?
internalised homophobia for example means that you, a LGB person, have been socialised to believed negative things about LGB people and are struggling with feeling like your own queerness is something negative
if a straight person sees being LGB as something negative that’s not “internalised homophobia”, that’s just homophobia
“internalised” means internalising negative views about your own minority
I keep seeing people saying stuff like “we all have internalised transphobia because we grew up in a transphobic society”
no. trans people have internalised transphobia. everyone else just has prejudice towards trans people.
please let’s be careful about how we use language!
I think folks are often mixing up “internalized [prejudice]” with “unconscious [prejudice]”
If a straight person on the surface believes LGB people are fine but holds some negative stereotypes or assumptions because of the society they grew up in, that is unconscious homophobia.
Similiarly, we all have unconscious transphobia because we grew up in a transphobic society (and racist and abelist and…)
out: naming girls after virtues
in: naming them after vices
avarice, insolence, decadence, lunacy, vanity, conceit, hysteria, envy, malice, rage would be good goth girl names

Hitbodedut
This is a kind of Jewish meditation that I think is really interesting and more people should know about. While to my knowledge the term Hitbodedut (התבודדות) is specific to the Jewish practice, I think the idea is applicable to a LOT of different traditions and more people could experiment with the premise.
It means “seclusion”, and the idea is simple: go out in a field somewhere and talk to Gd. Pick an amount of time, and don’t stop talking once you start. Let the words flow even if they go off topic or you feel rambly. This is a really great page on it that describes it in more detail.
As a person with ADHD I’ve found I like this a lot more than traditional meditation, especially when I’m puzzling over something in particular. The speaking helps me stay present and engaged without the shame if my thoughts flow, because as long as I keep talking that’s fine. I find it helps me sound out my thoughts better and dig up whatever is rolling around my subconscious.
I figure other people could benefit from the idea of a talking meditation. Even if you aren’t Jewish the idea of “find a place you won’t be bothered and let the talk flow openly” can be beneficial, you know? Here’s a precident for it in a tradition that can serve as an inspiration point.
Los Angeles June 7, 2020
Over 20,000 protesters
Tesla isn't the only company doing this either.
remember when there was that tweet by a rich person in NY at the height of the outbreak there patting themselves on the back because they told their worker they didn’t have to come in but their worker came in anyway? and I was talking about how coercive it was and that if the employer actually cared about their worker’s life they would just pay them to stay home... and so many people on here were like “how is that coercive if they were given the decision whether or not to come in and they chose to?”
even if they tell you they won’t punish you, they have the power to, and you literally can never count on them not using it. it’s always coercive when someone has the power to strip away your access to human needs.

🏳️🌈 Ruth Ellis (1899 - 2000) was the daughter of former slaves. She came out as a lesbian when she was 16-years-old to the complete acceptance of her family. In 1937, Ruth and her longtime partner moved to Detroit from their hometown of Springfield, Illinois for the promise of higher wages. There, she became the first woman in Michigan to run her own printing business. She printed fliers, posters, and stationary in the front room of her home, which also quickly became a hotspot for Black LGBTQ social life. Before long, Ruth was helping those who came around in any way she could, including by paying for college tuitions. After the Stonewall uprising, 70-year-old Ruth began giving speeches in support of gay and lesbian rights all across the country. She remained an activist for the rest of her long life and even spent her 100th birthday leading the San Francisco Dyke March. At the time of her death at 101, she was recognized as the oldest out lesbian in the US. She is the subject of the documentary "Living With Pride: Ruth C. Ellis @ 100" and is the namesake of the Ruth Ellis Center, a shelter for homeless and at-risk LGBTQ youth in Detroit.
Celebrate Ruth Ellis.

Black trans women from Cali, Colombia need donations!
Text by Valerie Summer, “For almost a year we have been raising resources to rent a house which serves as a safe haven for Black and racialized Trans Women in Cali-Colombia, this bet has been progressing slowly but since the month of May we managed to rent the house that you can see in the video attached to this campaign. We need your support to continue this dream and hopefully one day we will have our own house, please”
