it feels like a mad rush, even though the party isn’t for another hour. you’re standing in front of the mirror, staring at yourself while emma digs through the pile of clothes scattered across her bed. she had insisted you wear something of hers if you were going to make a statement, and although you protested, you let her play dress up on you, but just for tonight.

you are in complete and utter shock, to say the least. 

you don’t know how long you stand there after she’s gone, but you know it’s long enough for the cold to settle deep into your bones, for the music and laughter from downstairs to feel like they belong to a different world entirely. it’s long enough for the weight of what just happened to press down on you, suffocating, until you feel like you might collapse under it.
