Really hate that the queer community's response to the creation of a gender trinary (girl, boy, and nonbinary) was to... reinvent the binary. We just started grouping all genders into "masc/male-aligned" and "fem/female-aligned" and it's so fucking stupid. Even with the occasional allowance of "neutral/unaligned" it still maintains the binary as the standard. And then they don't let you use certain labels if you don't have the "right" gender alignment. The fuck.

Here's to system members who feel invalid for having varying kinds of interests compared to their headmates! Sometimes, it's hard being in a system. One of the challenges being plural might present is the differences between headmates.

While having interests that are too similar may stir up feelings of invalidation, the same can be true for having interests that are too different.

Having the same (or near same) interests can cause people to think they're faking due to probably thinking something along the lines of "well, if we're too similar, maybe they don't exist at all".

Conversely, alters or headmates that are too different may leave someone feeling they're faking because they're "trying too hard".

This post is meant to acknowledge those people! We see you, we love you, and we assure you that you're still a valid system/multiple/plural/whatever you identify as!

Actually I have more things to say about this because I am so fucking sick and tired of people who use non-monogamy as an excuse to cheat.

After thinking about it a lot, I am fairly certain that I am monogamous. My ex was polyamorous, which is totally fine. Whether you're monogamous or polyamorous is not something you can control any more than whether you're gay or straight so this did not bother me in the slightest. Because of this, I am well aware of how different types of non-monogamous relationships work and this shit is not it. Every polyamorous person I have spoken to who isn't a piece of shit has made it clear that their relationships still have strict boundaries and require a lot of communication from everyone involved to actually function. I have friends who have been in open relationships, friends who are in a polycule, people who I have felt romantic interest towards who happen to be polyamorous, and none of them were cheaters. I know poly people who have been cheated on, and who were still hurt by their partner's betrayal, because there was no communication between them before the act of infidelity happened.

Cheating is a gross betrayal of trust and boundaries and it is not a healthy form of non-monogamy. If you say shit like this I don't want anything to do with you honestly.
