Im sorry but it is so funny how people outside of tumblr view us. Like why are the tiktokers treating tumblr like some professional ass website you need to do extensive prep before you begin posting on. And the follower farming advice is so fucking funny to me when this is the website where people actively hate getting new followers

anyway, it seems like the tera server i've been playing on might be shutting down soon :( things have been Weird over the last several days (server crashes, staff leaving, patch notes being deleted, donations page not working, all with no word from anyone left on the staff), and now all of the discord's chat channels got shut down "until announcement".
i know it was inevitable since technically it's illegal (the retail version of the game shut down a few years ago, so all the servers online are unofficial and maintained by fans), but i'm still mega bummed. if the server does get shut down, i won't go to another server, i don't want to start all over again. not to mention that it's not like any of the other servers are any safer from being shut down. so i've just been porting my characters into blender so i'll at least always have art references of them if nothing else.

not to be a killjoy but it's still crazy to me that it's considered mean to be like "maybe you should read / play / watch the source material before creating fanworks and diving into the fandom" bc every time i see somebody going "i havent played disco elysium or know anything about it tbh but uwu here's harry and kim kissing" idk maybe you should engage with it. maybe you should play the anti-capitalist surrealist game where you investigate the murder of a mercenary who led the gang rape of a foreign girl and process that for a bit? and then you can do cutesy mlm or whatever idc. but like at the absolute bare minimum you should understand what the source material involves otherwise we get the phenomenon of people joining a dragon age server and wanting content warnings for like, mage racism. like it's fine to ship and transform the genre into whatever but if you arent comfortable with discussions of the actual source content itself then maybe the fandom isnt for you and a different one is. peace and love.

I don't think there is anything unreasonable about the idea that if someone isn't comfortable with actual discussions of the source material they should probably not insert themselves into the fandom. And I struggle to see how this has anything to do with ableism as per your tags.
Well, when you demand a certain amount of effort to be input before you consider someone's creative work valid, that's ableist.
The issue at hand isn't one of the validity of transformative works (and I agree with you there that art doesn't derive meaning or validity from the amount of "effort" poured into it) but of fandom social dynamics and the very simple fact that people involved in a fandom will find people who have not engaged with the source material yet insist on inserting themselves into the fandom annoying. i show up to the Planes Enjoyer Convention to talk about how pretty planes are. to my shock i learn planes fly which is awful because i'm scared of heights.
despite me being very passionate, nobody wants to hear about my novel where i imagine planes as types of burrowing creatures. instead people tell me i don't seem very interested in planes or the Planes Enjoyer Convention. this is very mean and judgemental.
eventually i strike up a conversation with someone and they reveal that planes are sometimes used for wars, and they actually like historical "war planes". my heart sinks.
they seem surprised and suggest that i read up about planes. that's just unacceptable. i call them an ableist gatekeeper and protest as i mime being forcibly escorted out of the convention by the security guards i made up in my head.
#several years ago (i'm talking about when LJ was the primary fandom space) someone wrote a silent hill 2 fan fic#except they by their own admission had not played the game and did not know what happens in it. and it showed in their fic#and when i say “it showed” i mean it could not have been more obvious it was written by someone who didn't know what happens in the game#so people were like “um. this is well written but you really should play the game because so much here is just straight up Wrong”#and the writer got SO OFFENDED by everyone being SO MEAN to them (everyone was actually being very polite)#but like. what did you think was going to happen? you can't just dive into the fandom for a thing that you know nothing about#and expect people to not point out that everything you just said is completely factually 100% wrong#like i'm not one of those elitists who's like “noooo you HAVE TO play the game YOURSELF or it doesn't count!!!”#so many games i love i watched my sister play or watched a playthrough online#but you have to actually experience the actual story SOMEHOW#fandom discourse cw#sorta?

I started playing elden ring last week! I have made it I reckon halfway, (?) no mohg yet, I kept wanting to mention it to you since I dont know anyone on tumblr other than you who talks about it!
mohg is an optional boss (needed only to access the DLC) and pretty hidden as well, so no surprise there! say hi to him for me if/when you do see him! 🥰

the texture for mohg's neck specifically is very, um, "please don't look too closely at this" xD it's one of those parts that the devs didn't put too much detail into since it's not something you really properly ever see. in fact, he doesn't even have a unique texture for his neck: the UV map for his neck is just slapped on one of the texture used for his wings:
mohg's skin texture on the left, and the same but with his neck's UV map highlighted on the right. the part that the neck UV map is slapped on is specifically this part of his wings (shown without feathers):
...so yeah, i suppose it could look like his neck has a feathery texture on it, since that part of his wings has something like that. but personally i don't think it's intentional, i honestly think they just slapped his neck's UV map somewhere, knowing that no one playing the game normally would ever get a good look at it, and i wouldn't necessarily read too much into it.
here's the texture for his clothes, though there isn't really anything particularly interesting there. fun fact: the texture for mohg's stupid pants is in the skin texture, not in the clothes texture!
