better living through star trek

@mylittleredgirl

little red. elder millennial. she/her. mylittleredgirl on ao3. 50% star trek by volume. now featuring: #threshold day, #babylon 5, #ezri dax.

so mercury retrograde is a pet peeve of mine. i grew up in new age circles and now work in a related industry, and so for most of my life people have been blaming “mercury retrograde” every day of the year for normal technology problems like not knowing how to use a computer. cut to this month when i’ve had a dozen bizarre and unprecedented technical failures seriously impeding my ability to do my job, and a coworker said “mercury retrograde!” and ooooh i hate it. i hate it. because she was RIGHT. i looked at my sent mail to find the first IT support request that started with “well folks this might be a new one…” and it was six hours after mercury went into retrograde god damn it astrology confirmation bias strikes again.

I've been thinking about you!! Hope things are going all right <3

thank you!! 💖 i am alive! i got march manic and have lost like a week? two weeks?? (oh god i hope it hasn’t been more than two weeks…) to playing the sims ALL night long and not answering the phone or knowing what day it is. understandably concerning when someone as terminally on tumblr as i am misses the ides of march (and uhhhhh. work) so i appreciate you checking in on me 💞💞💞 i DO wish this year’s spring mania could have been devoted to something more practical (i was REALLY rooting for manic midnight housekeeping this time) but it’s pretty low risk as far as compulsions go… sorry to everyone for everything important i have missed! remy i hope you’re doing well 💗💗💗 i have to work all weekend at regular human hours so i have to forcibly sedate myself and therefore expect to return to normal life on earth before this hypomanic ride crashes 👍

A Puppy's Love

This poor hush puppy style pup was overloved by his warm blooded puppy sibling. Here are a couple of his diagnosis photos:

He needed a bath, and muzzle and eye repair so he could once more explore his world with scent and sight.

Here he is in his bubble bath:

And here's his heart being made and installed with a bit of his original stuffing:

I had a near perfect match to repair his damaged muzzle, and his nose, while a bit worn, was to be kept. Hush puppy noses are proprietary, so we wouldn't have found a perfect match without a donor.

Once his nose was repaired, his eye paint was touched up. And finally, he got new whiskers. Hush Puppies always have whiskers, unlike a lot of stuffed dogs. When I put in whiskers, on cats or dogs or other patients, they're always a bit wild, so that their people can trim them to the desired length when they get home.

Here he is all better!

Puppy flew home from Arkansas and his whole family was thrilled to see him, including his sibling pup!

(they promise to be more gentle in the future!)

Testing out the new tumblr photoset feature.

People were mentioning gifsets.

Did you know… I made the very first one?

Tumblr announced a new “photoset” feature and they mainly intended it as a way to post a bunch of still images.

And I was like, does it work with GIFs?

I made this and then it inspired a ton of other people to do creative things with multiple GIFs.

My favorite was this one.

“Belka” and “Strelka”, Soviet space dogs after landing. USSR, 1960. [1800x1295] Check this blog!

The amount of people in the notes to this post (and any other space dogs related content) being surprised that Belka and Strelka or some other “dogmonaut” survived starts to concern me. Surely you guys know that most of the space dogs survived their journeys and went on with their doggy lives? Certainly you understand that getting the living creatures into the space and safely bringing them back was the point in these experiments? Like, you all get that these dogs were sent into space as part of the programme aimed at safely getting a human cosmonaut there, and Soviets weren’t just launching puppies to their deaths for the fun of it? You don’t just baselessly extrapolate Laika’s fate on all of them, right? Right?

Anyway, in case you get worried or upset looking at the space dogs’ photos, please know that most of the space dogs survived their journeys and went on with their doggy lives. They were sent into space as part of the programme aimed at safely getting a human cosmonaut there. Getting the living creatures into the space and safely bringing them back was the point in these experiments. Belka and Strelka definitely survived their flight, Strelka had puppies (one was gifted to JFK), and they both lived well into the old age.

i forget her actual name(it translates to little star) but the last of the dog cosmonauts before gagarins flight ended up being adopted by gagarin and his wife and he often spoke about being grateful for her contribution

That would be Zvozdochka. She was also named by Yuri Gagarin. Here’s a picture of her with her friends sourced from a Russia Beyond article that manages to misidentify all 4 dogs (correct labels added to bottom of photo added by me)

yesss thank you

i really need everyone to trust me and watch hundreds of beavers on tubi. do not look anything up about it. just watch hundreds of beavers. carve out 2 hours, watch hundreds of beavers. get some friends to watch it with you. it's, an unreal movie. it's so fucking ridiculous and great. watch hundreds of beavers.

you're gonna think "sloane, are there really hundreds of beavers?"

i'm gonna tell you now. there ARE hundreds of beavers, and you will not believe what happens with all those beavers

definitely gather as many friends as possible (and kids if you can) because if they aren’t there and afterwards they ask “hey how was that movie?” you will not be able to answer them. watch hundreds of beavers.
