Light is 18, L is around 24-25 (i think)

Light is like 3 months from his 19th birthday when L dies, who turned 25 a week beforehand in the manga. Their age gap is barely over 6 years canonically, and it was also never even mentioned in the manga or anime. The only source we have that made it clear L was older than Light was the how to read volume of the manga, released after its run, and an offhanded comment from L about “how when he was Light’s age he did strange things too”

I’ve never understood the fixation on their difference of age when the source material never cared about it and L’s age was flippantly stated as an afterthought. They are in every sense treated like peers.

Light is also canonically an adult. He encounters L in person believing he is another college student. They’re both super geniuses and Light is also a mass murderer, lol. Their small difference of age is by far the least of their concerns as a potential couple

Are these freaks weird? Yeah, definitely! But their difference of age is objectively the least weird part

I often think about this exchange, especially the last shot where Levi is looking out of the corner of his eye. Like he’s making EXTRA sure that Hange isn’t upset with him, but he’s trying to be chill about it.

romance as a subplot is SOOOOO GOODDDDD because 98% of the time it's an intense slowburn that develops over several chapters. the story focuses on the plot or character development more but somehow it makes the romance SO MUCH BETTER!!! idk how to explain it it's just so good...like when an author's focus is more on characters and plot it gives you as the reader a deeper connection to the characters which makes the romantic/platonic aspect so much better
