capitalism is genocide

@neurodivergent-crow

I signed this petition and I urge my friends here to consider signing it too. As I understand, the proposed new interstate breaks off of the new extension of I69, taking a ridiculously destructive curving route straight through the middle of the Hoosier National Forest to the casino at French Lick.

This road is non direct and smacks in the face of unnecessary for this venue. It is reportedly supported only by those that would benefit from it financially regardless of its impact on the HNF and its ecosystems.

Fragmentation of habitat like this is detrimental. It introduces invasive species, increases pollution load, changes how drainage and flooding is distributed, and reduces acreage for woodland habitat that is declining every year in our state. It takes minutes to sign and voice your opinion on the issue. Please feel free to share it as well.

Still needs a few thousand signaturesโ€”more is always better.

Indiana Governor is Todd Holcomb, senators are Todd Young and Mike Braun, and I think the relevant representative is Trey Hollingsworth.

THIS RIGHT HERE

You guys are dangerously close to realizing specifically what kinds of people they keep from voting and why.

I want to drill this into everybodyโ€™s head:

  • The United States of America has the highest prison population in the world
  • Black Americans and Latin people make up the majority of this population (many of whom are non-violent offenders)
  • Federal Prisons in America require that their state keeps their prisons at a maximum occupancy at all times.
  • The 13th amendment did not entirely abolish slaveryโ€ฆjust one form of it. It remains legal through industrial prison system

Oh and we have privatized prisons which allow companies to actually make money off of keeping people incarceratedย

The Clash helps some of their fans to sneak in before a concert.

this is how you do music right.

I love this so much. Like how stoked would you be if a band you loved helped you sneak into a big show of theirs?

Iโ€™ve heard this story before and love that they did this. Stop me if you heard this other one: The Ramones were playing in England and before the show they were hanging out in the dressing room when someone tossed a stone at the window. They looked out to see some young punks who wanted to get into the show but didnโ€™t have money for tickets. The Ramones reached down and pulled the guys up and got them in. Those young punks without tickets were to become The Clash. Good to hear they kept it going.

The real epitome of punk tbhโ€ฆ.

FYI: THIS IS SUPER ILLEGAL

A landlord MAY NOT keep your deposit overย โ€˜normal wear and tearโ€™. They may ONLY collect on something that is YOUR FAULT. They cannot charge for carpet wearing down or needing a new coat of paint after a few years, or the furnace needing a replacement because itโ€™s old. They can charge you for punching a hole in the wall that you never fix, or spilling paint on the carpet requiring a specialized cleaning or replacement. And they may ONLY keep what covers the repairs (If insufficient, then and only then may they keep the whole deposit, as in your deposit did not cover the damage you caused).ย

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS AS A TENANT. You landlord MUST return your deposit unless it was damage you directly caused, and ONLY the amount needed to fix the damage, and not one penny more.ย

If there is any damage to the unit when you move in, DOCUMENT IT. Take photos and make sure theyโ€™re dated.

If something breaks while you live in the unit, and you canโ€™t fix it easily yourself, REPORT IT. Make the landlord deal with it.ย

Document what the unit looks like when you move out, before the final inspectionโ€“because landlords can and will try to fake damage. Have proof of what damage was yours, if any, and what damage was not.ย

Landlords will try to fuck you out of every penny you have, including in ways that are horribly illegal. Donโ€™t let them.

March 22 2019 - Man installs adblocker on Melbourne Central Station. [video]

Protest all you want, and for whatever cause you want, but as soon as you start affecting public transport because of it I lose all interest in anything you have to do or say.

protests must be disruptive to a certain level to be effective. you canโ€™t protest increasing video advertisement on a vital part of peopleโ€™s everyday life without destroying some screens with paint. how would he have protested the advertisements without affecting public transport? heโ€™s not physically stopping trains, heโ€™s not violent.ย

Increasing video advertising means absolutely jack shit to somebody living paycheck to paycheck.

Missing out on three to four hours work because somebody wants to protest against increasing video advertising by delaying trains because of the sudden need of a cleaning crew ABSOLUTELY means something to people living paycheck to paycheck.

Affecting public transport for the sake of your personal views is selfish, and trying to attain the general publicโ€™s support by inconveniencing the general public is the most arse-backwards way of protesting on the planet.

the incident didnโ€™t cause any delays, which is to be expected. do they close down the subway stations every time they find graffiti on the walls? no, they wait until maintenance time, which is regularly scheduled during nighttimeโ€“either every night, or a couple of times a week.

to force the low and working class to be exposed to far more advertisement than the upper class (in all senses: they afford premium tv channels without ads, they donโ€™t take the subway, etc etc) is something that we in the low and working class should stand against. it hurts us, it pressures us to spend money we already donโ€™t have, and ads are used as a tool to sell a false idea of what our lives should or could look like if we just worked under capitalism just a little bit harder. ads are not the friend of those who rely on public transport.

inconvenience is an age old tactics in protesting. thatโ€™s why strikes use picket lines (and thatโ€™s also why you shouldnโ€™t cross them!): they inconvenience the company or organisation that the workers are protesting against. thatโ€™s why we hold marches, to inconvenience the public to force them to listen to our demonstrations. thatโ€™s how protesting operates and works.ย

i want to make it clear that iโ€™m not in any way trying to say that you are authoritarian (or belong to the right), but non-disruptive protests and demonstrations are heavily favoured by the conservative far right and those of authoritative power (companies, universities, and so on). they favour it specifically because they know non-disruptive demonstrations are ineffective. if your ideal protest is non-disruptive, your ideal protest is also ineffective.

โ€œDo or do not, there is no tryโ€ is the worst damn advice I was ever been given as a child. Fuck telling kids that their mistakes are the result of deliberate choice; let them know that they can fail for reasons totally beyond their control, and let them know that itโ€™s just important that they earnestly try.
