Daily Lothric life.

@newlondohollow

He/him, >18 Dark souls (I,II and III) lore enthusiast, which is mainly what I post on here, and mainly what I post (but better) on my tiktok, shameless plug: @n1manusglazer

Soooo @navlaanchair gave me the idea to do an introductory post!! (i havent seen anyone do them but apparently a lot of people do that so yeah..).

About me:

I use he/him, I'm 16 and Italian (to my grand dismay i hate this place get me out.). I'm queer (aroace :3) and that's mostly why i hate this prison of a country RELEASE ME. I read up the DSM5 70 times and I probably have ADHD (i hate it.)

Also I am catholic :D (one of the sane ones dont worry guys..) and I go to the language school (trademark) and uh yeah i have the social battery of a victorian peasant with tubercolosis.

I just properly got into the goth subculture so I guess i'm that too, nevertheless here's a list of my likes, hobbies and dislikes :3

General likes and interests: medieval and victorian fantasy aesthetic, alchemy, languages and linguistics (especially latin :3) [i am mentally ill for loving that shi.] medieval and ancient greco-roman poetry, arthurian legends, ancient myths overall, weirdcore, dreamcore, religious media.

Specific things I like (in completely random order): Dark Souls, Castlevania (the games, the radio drama and the first series, my fav game from it thus far is Aria of Sorrow), Mad Father, Ao-Oni, the Witch's House, Malice Mizer, London After Midnight, Radiohead, Mitski, Adrianne Lenker, Big Thief, vocaloids, Madoka Magica, Wonder Egg Priority, Lotr, The Hobbit and the Silmarillion, Berserk, Evillious Chronicles, Minecraft, Hollow Knight, Divina Commedia, Francesco Petrarca and I CANT THINK OF ANYTHING ELSE OH MY FUCKING GOD.

Hobbies: reading, writing and gaming (what a long list wow im so productive wooow..)

Dislikes (both general and pieces of media): dark romance cuz are we deadass romantacising abuse rn.. anyway Hazbin Hotel, Helluva Boss, Genshin Impact, Project Sekai (it's fun as a rythm game but everything else for me is uh..), Bungo Stray Dogs, Vanitas No Carte, Rings of Power.

Sooo that's all i have to say about myself, now for

Contents of this blog;

This god forsaken place will be made up of me yapping about (either analyzing, fanboying, debating or brainrotting) and reposting things related to mostly Dark Souls but any of my current hyperfixations.

Thaaat's all, im pretty sure a total of 3 people will be reading this either way so yeah..

hot take(?), i think the whole "Gwyn is the one who banished his firstborn!!" is just people assuming stuff. afaik the game, even in the english version, never explicitely says that Nameless king was banished by Gwyn. the game actually gives you many clues that Nameless king was banished after Gwyn's sacrifice. for example:

in Artorias DLC (settled after Gwyn's death) we are in the Darkroot Garden in the past, and we know that in the Darkroot Garden we can see the Undead Burg from distance, where there is a broken statue of Gwyn's firstborn, but in the DLC there's no Undead Burg, that means it was built after Gwyn's death.

likely Lloyd was the one who banished him, like it's not even a theory or speculation it's just 99% confirmed, but people assumed that it was Gwyn just because hey!! he hates dragons and he is powerful!!

soo, Gwyn is bad but not that bad?? lol??

FUCKASS LLOYD I HATE HIS ASS

Sooooo i finally gathered enough energy to post, and guess what will good ol me post about? NATURALLYYYY an obscure ass character i got hyperfixated on. because that's what normal people do. of course. Only this time it's not dark souls, so that's new!!

Enormous yapping sesh below this world-healing fanart by xemnas178!

I LOVE JOACHIM ARMSTER FROM CASTLEVANIA LAMENT OF INNOCENCE SO MUCH IM GONNA SOB I LOVE HIM IMEIUEIFJWUSYYWGD.

He's an example of how ergodic or semi ergodic literature (which i adore) can AND WILL make you briefly look at a character and go "aight cool" only to then gently nudge you into having the most shocking, boom vine sfx requiring, life altering, soul shattering series of realizations.

So, we learn from the official art book that Joachim was Walter's lieutenant, and that he was quote "lured" by him with the promise of eternal life. Joachim then tried to usurp Walter, which backfired awfully, and he now lies imprisoned in the Palace of Dark Waterfalls. Eventually Leon Belmont gets to him and Joachim acts all cool and cocky only to miserably die (as a bossfight i found him way easier than most of the other orb bosses).

That's pretty bland at first glance isn't it? Just your average foolish, prideful, comedic relief prick right? No, not at all. Here we go analyzing:

Joachim's model has a very young-looking face, looking even younger than Leon himself, and he also acts quite angsty teen like in his dialogues, which already adds something more to him.

The real kicker is that the devs left in the game a window to access the sounds (someone here on Tumblr made a post about it!) and they all have their little comments below them; Joachim's OST's comment reads:

"Melancholy Joachim

It's dangerous to be holding a knife, Joachim. Perhaps he is still just mentally young"

That post I mentioned commented perfectly on the "Melancholy Joachim" bit so I won't repeat what they said, I will instead focus on the two sentences that follow.

The first sentence sounds condescending, sarcastic, or alternatively it sounds like something you would tell a child. Perhaps it allegorically references Joachim's attempt at usurping Walter, and this sentence would be something Walter himself would tell him mockingly.

Meanwhile the second sentence seems like a repetition of "Joachim acts like a child" but the presence of the word "still" has us know that he doesn't just act like a teenager, he is one.

Or better said, he was one when Walter turned him, as we can presume by looking at his official art here (more yapping below it) that he's been in that cell for a WHILE.

However, his mental development was stunted by such egregious traumatic experiences, and thus he has the mind (and sort of looks) of a teenager.

All this certainly makes his character a lot more tragic, and now we can't even fault him for having been tempted by eternal life because, as old as he was, he probably didn't even understand the scale of the situation he was in, and what he was being offered.

We also know that Joachim, this goddam fucking teenager, was Walter's lieutenant. That fuckass ginger cunt had a teenager lead armies. ARMIES. ARMIES OF DEMONIC CREATURES BY THE WAY. Children being used in war is nothing alien to history of course, but obviously it still is undeniably very wrong and cruel both here and irl.

Nevertheless, could it be that Joachim, a child soldier burdened with leadership of an army of demons, wished to usurp Walter not for mere power lust, but to put an end to his tyranny over the land (and over Joachim himself)?

The man's character design doesn't strike me as overly evil either, in fact he has white-silver hair and a blue tunic, both white and blue are colors associated with purity, innocence (lament of innocence mention) and a noble spirit, it is no coincidence Soma and Hector follow the same color scheme.

It is also very worth noting that Walter had an entire smithing area, way more fit to hold a jail, but still chose to lock Joachim in a cave surrounded by water.

Friendly reminder that water is acidic to vampires, so Walter had this poor soul taken here with the specific intention of reminding him that if he were to somehow escape the cave itself, the water all over the place wouldn't let him get much further, also the cave is dark as all fuck, so that's fun.

In the art up there Joachim is clutching a knight's skull, almost as if he's lamenting the knight's death, even tho he is more than likely the one who killed him.

He's also seen letting the knight's blood drop to his hand, which reminds us that the only food he had available were the people coming to try to murder him. The very same cocky knights that perhaps, the first times they showed up, he excitedly hoped to befriend and help, but was always shocked, let down and hurt when they would attempt to kill him for the mere crime of being a vampire.

And about that, one can very much imagine that he heavily regretted having become one, and, to cope, his teenage brain gradually made him feel superior to humans because he was a vampire, so that he wouldnt feel hurt anymore when inevitably every human that came his way showed him no compassion.

Joachim clearly reached a point of complete distrust and spite for any human that arrives, which is why he is so dismissive and aggressive to Leon, whom at first showed no ill intent. He's also clearly gone insane, and still wishes to have revenge on Walter (which he gets to do if you play the game as him, which is something at least).

As a finisher I'd like to add that Walter and Joachim are an older, darker version of Dracula and Hector (if that manga about them is canon).

Yeah ok good lord above i yapped a lot.

I will now go eep, thanks to everyone who read all the way to here!

#thank you so much! #also fair take!

Dark Souls characters are so funny cuz my favorite ones could go from an old paranoid god who resemble the sunlight and is essentially the one who started the whole story to blue edgy dark sorcerer who likes to kill

a giant who got hated on by his kingdom just for existing and failed to protect said kingdom from an unstoppable flame to a golden knight who has cool weapons and gets dropkicked

an old scholar who brings to the story a very philosophical look of the cycle humanity is doomed in to big bird who screams and slams his giant cup around

BIG BIRD BAHAHAHSHAHHSHSHSHWH DONT DO ARIANDEL LIKE THAT..

gahhh I'm really sorry this is random and unrelated but there's no active castlevania confession blogs and I had to resort to this one I'm really sorry but if you post this I'd be grateful

but MAN....I NEED somewhere to hate rant about how much I despise lyudmil from the castlevania nocturne of recollection audio drama. Piece of shit guy!!!! Waltzes in RANDOMLY and declares himself alucard's servant outta the fucking blue with Very Convenient backstory, I wanna finish nocturne of recollection but every time I hear his voice I get so PISSED. he kills women and only targets women and its shown like a quirky sexy thing because he calls them oujo-sama in a fan service voice I haaaatteeee him fuck you lyudmil burn in hell I'm so glad you're unpopular, the writers wanted him to be fan service so hard that they made him yaoi bait, very artifical very obvious VERY shoe-horned in yaoi bait, sooo glad he canonically dies I hope he stays that way and NEVER shows up again in anything EVER. I hope the nocturne radio drama BECOMES LOST MEDIA!!! I would've tolerated him mildly but the femicide forced fujobaiting "sexy butler" thing makes me want to kill him violently. I'm so glad he's not in any of the games I'm so relieved because that character is actual literal ass....characterization of alucard and maria in the audio drama is also really really bad but that's double unrelated

RECENT MENTION OF NON-NETFLIX ANIME CASTLEVANIA STUFF?? GOTTA REBLOG.

TW: mention of SA

I binge listened (or moreso read since i don't understand a word of Japanese) the Nocturne of Recollection radio drama yesterday and I give it a solid 6/10, not a 5 js cuz i feel generous. I completely agree on Alucard and Maria's (EXPECIALLY MARIA THAT SHI HAD ME FUMING.) characters being butchered, but I do wanna defend Lyudmil a little.

The whole feminicide business happened when he was possessed/mind controlled by Magnus, and him adressing the women he killed like that was probably meant to be read as offputting and creepy (which it was) more than anything else.

Magnus is an incubus, incubus (togheter with the succubus, who in Castlevania games have a LONG history of assaulting protagonists) are demonic creatures who will, inherently, act sexual and fucking weird with their victims so it's no surprise Magnus forces the people he controls to do the same.

We get glimpses of non-possessed Lyudmil thrughout the story and he seems like quite the good person!

I know im reblogging this like 5 months later but i mean this is as recent as we're gonna get..

Mouthwashing x Dark Souls 2⁉️⁉️

(note: first time writing an au so i'm sorry if it looks bad)

Curly = Vendrick

-captain

-cares for his crew

-tried to take action against Farran (OIK) but got stopped by the crash of the ship

Anya = Rea (Lost Sinner)

-nurse

-close with Vendrick and had the role to take care of him after the crash

Swansea = Aldia

-mechanic

-Vendrick's older brother

-cares for the crew, but dislikes Farran

-"close your eyes, Navlaan."

Daisuke = Navlaan

(i'm talking about Good!Navlaan)

-Aldia's intern, and is close with him

-less optimistic

-got threathened into going in the vent

Jimmy = Farran (Old Iron King)

-co-pilot

-jealous of Vendrick for being the captain

-did horrible things to Rea and found out Vendrick wanted to take action against him and so he caused the crash

Yo this is so cool!

the part of the dracula v alucard battle that always haunts me, besides its conclusion, is the scene in the boiler room where alucard is pingponging off the walls and dracula grabs him by the skull and starts slamming his head into the floor. and it gets me for a few reasons, one being that alucard makes this god awful little whimper when he does it, and it’s fucking gutwrenching. and two being the way that dracula holds him up afterwards and alucard’s body is just. limp. limp and hanging in his father’s grasp. it’s such a thoroughly nauseating and repulsive scene, i think because there’s no finesse to it, just pure animal rage and violence, trying to crack his son’s skull open open and smear it on the tile. i adore it

It was a great fight scene yeah, and that particular part of it was brutal as all fuck. However even then I feel the show put some deeper meaning into it: when Dracula holds up Alucard by the head the camera zooms in on his neck, showing us he could have killed him there and then, but didn't.

Something similiar to this happens a few other times in their duel, and it tells us that sure, he's trying to kill him, but when there's an opening that will for certain, 100% allow him to, he doesn't take it.

Yuria of Londor for the character ask!

Avatar

Thank you sm for asking again!! And again im so so sorry for having made you wait so long..anyway here we go!

Favorite thing about them: the ending you get doing her quest, also her fit cuz PLEASE SHES SO COOL PLEALEKAUEIWIDIISHWYW

Least favorite thing about them: that she asks you to kill my GOAT Orbeck, i know it makes sense for her to do so but I LOVE HIM I DONT WANT TO MURDER MY POOKIE.

Favorite line: "Our Lord of Hollows, it shall be, who weareth the true face of mankind."

brOTP: her and Friede! Even if the latter left the Sable Church and wishes to remain in the dragged out Painted World, she still wants the Lord of Londor to rule the outside world, as indicated by one of her lines in dialogue.

OTP: i dont ship her so yeah..

nOTP: x Kaathe. Screw you, Kaathe.

Random headcanon: her and Agdayne met and that's how she got Darkdrift, they were besties and NO ONE will tell me otherwise. Credits to @navlaanchair for this hc though since he theorized it first!

Unpopular opinion: Lord of Hollows ending could NOT have existed witouth Ds2, her dialogue DOES reference Vendrick's and that, along with the entire ending itself, is one of the strongest evidence to how important Ds2 was for the trilogy.

Favorite picture of them:
