Call me Nokia or Gage!

Pinned

Hi hello! Welcome to our blog. You can call us whatever and we'll probably respond but we prefer Gage or QD.

We are a system and our general pronouns are it/its :-) It is nice to meet you. Usually you'll just be interacting with our host on this blog, but sometimes we make ourselves more known.

Our interests include but are not limited to: ✦ Sociology, Psychology, City Planning, Cultural, PoliSci ✦ The Nokia company and products ranging from the 80s-06 ✦ Digital art and photography ✦ Creative writing and poetry ✦ Queerness as a whole ✦ The human form and of course, ✦ Marble Hornets

Catchya around!

(Below is our tag system.)

Being system and having a character as a source while ALSO having a plush of that character you use to self soothe is so funny. Yeah, sometimes I get really scared and i need to look at my body double homunculus to calm down.

SSRIs are such bullshit. Where did my appetite go.

Grabbing my zoloft by hir lapels so our faces are inches apart. Where is my appetite.

See i lured you in with MH posts but I am actually an amateur sexologist and massive fan of sociology and psychology, especially human sexuality and psychology <- Genuinely these are just my passions/hyperfixations

Mature content

Part of twitter right now is behaving absolutely bonkers in a way that genuinely makes me nervous tbh. See, there are a bunch of vanilla people discovering kink and cnc for the first time, and fantasy games that tie to that, and tbh I do not like fantasy games but they're having a puritanical reaction straight out of a conservative handbook.

I understand that in times of stress, often disempowered people will search for anything they can control, but it is absolutely wild seeing people claim first of all that cnc is not a healthy coping mechanism and that we need to police what people do sexually in private while often being baby queers. Like, these people cannot hear themselves.

I have even seen some people even refer to how Steam's fantasy games will advertise "domination, mind control, and submission" as if that is somehow something abhorrent despite the fact it is (on paper) the basics of bdsm. It is a backlash that honestly to some degree feels scripted, or comical in how stereotypical it is.

I also think there is something to be said for how these people are freaking out over arguably the most common kink next to breeding kinks while never addressing actual problems that can arise from fantasy games and content around fulfilling fantasies, such as the rampant sexualization/fetishization of minorities, which can be a problem when it is our only representation, as it often is :-V

I know it is because they don't understand the realms they're talking about, not really, but like, it is also kind of comical to me in a way.

Yes, one of the most common kinks is evil. Sure. Now are you going to say something about the fetishization of transgender people and/or POC into sex toys or are you somehow filtering for games that only feature straight cis white women.

Love love love your analysis of the Operator and as someone who is also overly analytical of these series, I need to ask if you've ever read the canyouseethewords blog here on Tumblr? A lot of quotes from there inform a lot of what I think of it as a character / thing (esp "Evil does evil deeds but giving it a name only empowers it.") and I wanted to know if you had any thoughts on it? (Ik this is technically emh stuff and not mh but in my opinion it informs a really interesting read of the Operator in mh)

I have not read that blog because I am not an EMH girlie sorry. Me and EMH have starkly different attitudes and beliefs. Apples to pears, really, maybe Oranges. [Though my beef is not as much with the series as it is the fandom, which is imo even worse than MH with the woman fridging and shit but that is neither here nor there. EMH is fine.]

I don't really have many thoughts on it though, unfortunately. I like reading folks interpretations of shit ans hearing how different stories explain or rationalize their Operator/"Slenderman,"—as imo that provides as much insight into the theorist as it does the series—but I don't have many thoughts on EMH ^^"

I suppose if we want my thoughts on the Operator itself though, to me, as a monster it has always been it is something sort of unfathomable/somewhat incomprehensible to people, and thats kind of the fun part.

Is it a manifestation of human evil? Is it a supermassive cosmic horror reaching into our world? Is it a corrupted nature spirit? Is it a stand-in for systemic abuse marginalized/disempowered people face, with the whole story meant to be an abstract metaphor?

For Marble Hornets, I am not altogether sure if there was ever really meant to be a specific answer, but I enjoy talking about and discussing the different options, and the fluidity of the Operator is what makes it such a formidable and terrifying force, because in not knowing what it is, we are helpless to stop it.

I will admit I am partial to the second option I listed, but that is just a peering into my psychology really haha. I personally just find the idea of something impossibly big thats feeding off people like a whale does off plankton cool :-)

The vagueness of it is what makes it work though, and any theory about MH or adaptation can work with enough elbow grease. I more care about the execution honestly than the actual choice on what the Operator is.

I hope this was a satisfactory answer!!!

I keep thinking about Alex's bio on the marble hornets website. [context]

Under his likes he has his dog, Rocky.

The dog we never see again, which is only mentioned in the second episode and then never even seen again. We have no idea what happened to him, if he for some ridiculous reason got taken or if he just ran away. He was one of Alex's favorite things though, right next to both film and art. He was something alive that Alex could admit he loved and cared for, despite the fact it was so hard for him to talk about his feelings. It is acceptable to love your dog.

Under his likes he has his dog, Rocky.

Hey, so since Brian Thomas is a Psychology Major that means he would probably be the only person out of our cast who understands what DID is and what Tim's condition is.

YEAHHH THIS IS EXACTLY MY INTERPRETATION :-)!! I think while Brian interacted with other alters vaguely, he only really "met" them after his brain got scrambled, and in a sense he kind of only recognized alters as that because of his whole perspective being shifted.

Because often singlets don't recognize DID because they'll more or less make excuses for it, y'know? "Wow this person is just so forgetful" or "they seem to have emotional swings a lot, huh." But Brian is in a weird place and the way he sees the world in codes almost allows him to understand.

Scampers away.

There is a joke that always stuck with me from the blu-rays/cast commentary, that being that Jay is a nepo baby and that is how he kept affording motels and gas and food for years, even with no job and a growing obsession. Like a dog to a chewed on and wilting sock, this is an idea I have latched onto and grown unreasonably obsessed with, which I personally believe kind of explains aspects of Jay's character.

content warning: serious headcanon territory, but also still a lot of character analysis bc im coocoo⟧

Hey so, a lot of folks in the Marble Hornets fandom are varying shades of new to it, and so didn't experience it coming out unfortunately, but apparently there used to be a marblehornets website that has been down since 2016, and I actually didn't know about it but my friend (@straycalamities) did and found it on the Wayback Machine.

I bring this up because while the images on the website are mostly broken now, it actually holds some really fascinating information on the characters that I have never seen talked about, like some of their majors in college!!

I am going to post snippets (as screenshots would get fucked up on mobile) and talk about them a little, but check it out here if you're curious.

i don't care if it's nazis, mormons, or a bunch of misguided autistic people. if anyone ever tries to tell you your soul is from another planet and you're actually part of the class of impressive people that secretly did everything cool in the world but is now extinct and lives on through your broken genome, you RUN. YOU WILL RUN AWAY. YOU WILL SPRINT FULL SPEED AWAY FROM THAT.

grabs you by the shoulders listen. listen to my words. i understand the urge to make fanfiction about yourself and to find a reality in which you're super awesome and great and everyone who hates you is wrong and dumb. i get it. you're better than that. you can love yourself without putting other people down, dehumanizing and generalizing, and retaliating against your oppressors.

there's no NPCs. there's no aliens coming to save us. we're not the next step in human evolution. our hyperconnected nervous systems give us terrible sensory overwhelm more often than they make us geniuses. neurotypical people are sentient, conscious, aware people who are capable of understanding you. we're more the same than we are different. we're more the same than we are different. we're more the same than we are different.

Also stay away from people who say shit like "sexual attraction and romance addles the mind and makes you crazy and irrational and this is why being aro/ace makes you intellectually superior." I've seen that a couple times times on this hellsite. Stay away from anyone who tries to convince you that your racial identity/cultural identity/gender identity/sexual orientation/neurodivergence/any other intrinsic quality makes you a member of some master race that is inherently superior to the other humans.

You are not immune to exceptionalist propaganda.

I feel like the generalization that m/f ships are bad comes from the fact just that they're the accepted and propped up majority. Everyone writes bad stuff man, and there's just so many straight cis people so of course you'll notice their bad stuff more. Queer people also are able to write dogshit stuff too, (though there is something to be said for how being queer can sometimes provide you a fun/unique perspective to writing romance,) but we just don't always see it because of how it get buried, and especially you won't if you're putting romance in a story that doesn't have one and abstracting a queer relationship shit yk?

Not that that is bad, I do that too, but when you make up/abstract a relationship it is obviously easier to make it good in your eyes and according to your beliefs/biases. A massive problem in fandom spaces often is a m/m ship being decided and the characters being flanderized to fit into this fandom/cultural ideal yk? And it works so well because in canon there isn't an actual romantic or even sometimes platonic relationship dynamic (poorly written or wonderfully written) to push back on it.

There also 100% is an element of misogyny in here though, with fandoms ignoring and sidelining women even when they aren't being mangled by male screenwriters :-V But that is a whole other can of worms and gets into the very complicated topic of often internalized misogyny.

Idk it is a complicated issue.
