Finished Severance, and it was fine. Or rather, it was good and I liked it fine. It’s just not doing it for me the way it has for a lot of other people. I’m not convinced it’s as super amazing good as a lot of people say it is, but will also own that a fair amount of what’s dragging it down is on my personal preferences and expectations, not the show’s failure.
Watched the first episode of Severance and it’s good, I’m going to keep watching, but… okay, so they’re doing this thing with like, dead space let’s call it, and I can tell it’s deliberate and they’re doing good things with it, but man oh man is it a struggle for my ADHD ass to sit through. I don’t know if I would have made it through the first ten minutes if I didn’t know people were so hype about this show.

Oh, great idea! You know how some people will but a link to their tumblr in the end author’s notes on a fic on ao3? Normally when I do that I just link my main tumblr page, but why don’t I link directly to the tumblr post about the fic? It’s a little more work since I’ll have to post the fic, create the tumblr post, then edit the fic to add the link to tumblr, but it means that anyone inspired enough by the fic to seek out my tumblr will be immediately met with the post they can reblog to share the fic with people.
Just struck by the silliest mental image where Ed shaves his s1 beard either a little earlier or it’s an AU where they don’t get caught or something and he and Stede have a whole Beauty and the Beast interaction about it. Stede being like, gasp, who is this stranger? And Ed is like Stede, it’s me! And Stede gets a little closer pets his hair a little and then looks deep in those big brown baby cow eyes and is like oh my god it is you!
I wish more published books had their word count readily available. Page count is such a meaningless number. Physical books can have different size pages and both physical and ebooks can have different margins and spacing and text sizes — ebooks especially can have hugely different text sizes based on reader preference. Plus books with lots of short paragraphs and short chapters will end up having a lot of dead space on the page making them seem a lot longer.
Word count isn’t perfect — you could have two texts with the same word count where one is effectively much longer because it’s densely written with a lot of big words while the other has a very breezy style to it — but word count is still a much better approximation than page count.
