[id: The poster is titled, "Hair Salons and Sweet Tea: Opportunism of the Oppressor" in a green box to the right-hand side of the paper. To the left, transparent orange and green circles decorate the page, with a depiction of a woman done in Arabic calligraphy art. Light gray text above her shoulder reads, "@Palirev.web". A gray bar separates the title from the first block of text, which reads:

"While the rebellion of October 7th brought much attention to Palestine, a long history of oppression, surveillance, restriction, and harm stretching the last 75 years of Zionist occupation in Palestine preceded it. One such assault began unassumingly: Complimentary sweet tea for women getting a haircut."

A second gray bar separates the next section, reading, "While David Graeber's writings about his visit to Nablus in the 80s described Palestine as the most liberal society in the Arab world, he found something strange: Where were the women's hair salons? Contrary to popular belief, it wasn't a lack of demand due to religious head coverings, which did not become widely popular until the 90's. More sinisterly, hair salons were taken advantage of by Zionist occupation intelligence agents to threaten Palestinian women."

Below, three gray boxes hold images. The first one is of a spilt cup of tea, with a block of text below. The second is a security camera, with text below, and the third is a barbed wire, with a third text block below it. The teacup's block reads, "How, you wonder? Spiking cups of sweet tea with knock-out drugs. Soldiers then took polaroids of the women nude and began making threats."

Below the security camera, text reads: "As brought to TV by the move Huda's Salon, some women were blackmailed by threats to show their families [the photos] and lose the support of loved ones."

Below the barbed wire, text reads: "Otherwise, their husbands were threatened to become informants or collaborators with occupation intelligence at the risk of such photos being released to the public."

A gray bar separates between the final line of text. Two more green and orange circles adorn the bottom of the page. The final text reads, "END ILLEGAL OCCUPATION OF PALESTINE. END THE APARTHEID. FREE PALESTINE." /end id]

🇵🇸 From Friend of Al-Aqsa (FOA):

What exactly is Coca Cola’s role in Israel's occupation? Coca-Cola has a factory in Atarot, an illegal Israeli settlement built on stolen Palestinian land. Palestinian communities are forcibly removed for illegal Israeli settlements like this to be built. These settlements are illegal under international law. By having an Israeli franchise in the illegal Israeli settlement of Atarot, Coca-Cola is ignoring international law and profiting from the illegal occupation. There are currently up to 750,000 Israeli settlers living in at least 250 illegal Israeli settlements across the occupied West Bank and East Jeruasalem. By drinking Coca-Cola, we as consumers are turning a blind eye to the illegal occupation of Palestine. In 2022 American food company General Mills announced it was divesting from Atarot as a direct result of pressure from human rights groups, activists and others. Let's keep up the pressure on Coca-Cola to stop operating in Atarot! Join our call to #BoycottCocaCola until it stops operating in Atarot illegal Israeli settlement. Make a pledge to boycott Coca-Cola until it stops operating on stolen Palestinian land.

For more info, check out FOA's webpage.

If you're in the UK, they have several upcoming campaign and events you can participate in.

After the last infographic, PaliRev received many questions on the meaning of the kufiya and culturally appropriate usage. Palestinians have asked that everyone willing wear the kufiya in solidarity with their struggle and to unite. Of course, this should be done with respect to the importance and history surrounding the kufiya, and proper care shown to the garment. Thank you all for your strength!

[image id: an image with a white background. Medium sized gray text reads, "WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT". Below, large text colored with the Palestinian flag finishes, "PALESTINIAN KUFIYA". There follows an olive green block with white lettering. A white circle partially covers the left-hand corner, a depiction of a Kufiya surrounded by olive branches. The kufiya is a white and black checkered scarf with tied ends. The first line of text is bolded. It reads, "Also known as a keffiyeh, shemagh, or hatta, the kufiya was wrapped around Palestinian rebels' faces during the British Mandate of Palestine and 1936-1939 Arab Revolt to avoid arrest. When banned by authorities, Palestinians all wore kufiya to protect rebels. After illegal Israeli occupation forces banned the Palestinian flag from 1967 to 1993, the kufiya was used to symbolize national identity."

A low opacity gray text between boxes reads, @PaliRev.

Below is a white box with a slight shadow outlining it. In olive green text, one section asks, "What do the patterns represent?" Beside it is an image of the kufiya's design, with a fishnet pattern on top, three bold black lines in the middle, and two rows of olive leaves on bottom. Black text reads, "The fishnet pattern is for Palestinian connection to the sea, knotting together, and the barbed wire of occupation. As the tree lives 300-600 years, olive leaves represent resilience and ties to the land. The bold lines represent trade routes across historic Palestine."

A second section header in olive green text reads, "Who can wear the kufiya?" Below it, black text says, "You, me, and anyone in solidarity with Palestinians, resisting oppression, and honoring its significance and history. The kufiya is not restricted to any group or gender, a symbol of cultural heritage and identity for many in the Middle East, but an international symbol of activism and unity."

A small olive green box at the bottom of the shadowed white box has white text in it which reads, "Where can I get one that supports Palestinians?"

Below the white box and at the bottom of the page are four QR codes with labels beneath them. The first is Hirbawi, the second is Handmade Palestine, the third is KUVRD, and the fourth is Palestine Shirts. /end id.]

melissa barrera (the actress who got fired from the scream franchise for being pro palestine) has started a fundraiser with unrwa!

Can confirm that the above link leads to the official US website for UNRWA!

And here's a reason for hope: the fundraiser is blasting away. They just made $50,000 in the past 3 days - let's keep it going!

"Wait, hold on, I don't know what's going on here"

What's the UNRWA?

"The U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees, known as UNRWA, employs thousands of staffers and provides vital aid and services to millions of people across the Middle East. In Gaza, it has been the main supplier of food, water and shelter to civilians during the Israel-Hamas war."

-via PBS, January 29, 2024

If their funding is from the UN and various countries, what's up with this fundraiser?

A massive amount of UNRWA's budget was just cut in the middle of a humanitarian crisis, as the US and a number of other countries cut off aid to UNRWA completely.

And May The Screams You Ignored Haunt You Every Night:

This was a choice.

A choice of complacency.

A choice to ignore.

A choice to be willfully ignorant.

We funded it.

We cheered for it in our actions, or lack thereof.

And if there is anyone to blame, it is us.

It is our fault for not taking our power back.

It is our fault for choosing to value material items over the welfare of our fellow humans.

It is our fault for not demanding more.

“Why only Palestine?”, they ask.

“Why don’t you focus on problems in your own backyard?”

Palestine is our backyard.

Palestine is the litmus test, for if we didn’t fund the fascism in Palestine, we ourselves would be free.

If we didn’t find Israel, we ourselves would have basic human rights.

If we didn’t elect the corrupt, the world would not be the military industrial complex’s playground.

If we reclaimed our power, our elected officials would work for us, and not their next lobby check.

We chose this.

We choose it with every dollar we spend, every piece of media we consume, and with every scream we ignore.

Inspired by this post by @alex-just-vibing. PaliRev values the contribution of all people to the liberation of Palestine, and we encourage you to share this around your schools or with others to give accessible options for us all to show solidarity for the Palestinian people.

[image id: an image with a white background, bordered on the bottom left and top right with green, corner illustrations, an olive garden branch drawing on the bottom right, and a drawing of a boy sitting down with a backpack leaning on him, looking downwards sadly on the top right. there is a low opacity palestinian flag behind black text reading "HOW DO I SUPPORT PALESTINIAN RESISTANCE IF I CAN'T DONATE?" below this is a list in smaller black text, bulleted with light green arrows. the list reads:

"- Wear shirts, pins, keffiyehs, anything outwardly pro Palestine.

  • Email your Representatives, Congress, White House. Tell the people in charge you want a ceasefire.
  • Talk to your local library about holding an educational night about the genocide and/or Palestinian culture.
  • Make schoolwork about Palestine! Writing about news? Focus on Palestine. Making questions for a test? Use Palestine as an example.
  • Find social media accounts for your representatives and schools, and make a fuss. Comment and @ them!
  • Show up to local actions (i.e. protests), join and organization, and follow Palestinian journalists! (next line) - Motaz Azaiza, Plestia Alaqad, Hind Khoudary, Bisan Owda -
  • Educate yourself on anti-Palestine talking points (Palestine toolkit) and how to refute them in a calm manner.
  • Speak up! It's scary, but don't let other people's bigotry go unchecked. You'll find that other people agree, and speak up from your example.
  • Don't engage with people unwilling to learn. Your goal is to educate people who are and make those comfortable with genocide feel UNCOMFORTABLE."

SUPPORT PALESTINIAN BUSINESSES

while it’s important for us to protest, raise awareness, boycott, and pressure our governments… it is also important that we appreciate palestinian people and palestinian culture. they are more than just victims. they are artists, entrepreneurs, fashion designers, movie makers, writers, musicians, scholars—they are people. so let’s celebrate all that makes palestinians who they are by supporting their businesses and showing our appreciation and solidarity.

There's also Ma'moul Press, founded by comic artist Leila Abdulrazaq, which sells zines and other types of art. I'm not sure if everything they sell is specifically Palestinian though.

^found this via a collection of Palestinian owned businesses on IG earlier today. another company that sells olive oil

^this shop sells tatreez embroidery kits and books on the topic as well as some fabrics

(A sweatshirt belonging to one of our members, where he hand-embroidered the Palestinian flag. The design above is a lion surrounded by shapes and reads, "You've got a lion inside of your lungs.")

During this global strike for Gaza and Palestine, use your art for solidarity. You are the protest, you are the voice! From drawing Palestinian flags in marker on your hand to singing or making your schoolwork about Palestine, there are ways for you to show your support and help the cause.

Every bit matters. Don't stop talking about Palestine.

Living on a planet where any government is allowed to go through with military action that they know will result in the death of civilians should be gut-wrenchingly painful for all of us. Over 10,000 children have died in Palestine since October 7th, and there is not a single child in Gaza who is not suffering. CHILDREN. INFANTS. I can't stop thinking about all the innocent children we are losing and leaving to suffer every day.

Please use whatever privilege you have to do whatever you can during the Global Strike for Palestine (January 21st - 28th). Contact your representatives. Call for an immediate ceasefire. Boycott, stimulate the economy as minimally as possible, participate in pro-Palestinian protests, educate yourself, and most importantly, amplify the voices of Palestinians.

A few ways you can donate to/support people in Palestine:

  • "palestinian photojournalist motaz azaiza announced on tuesday that he would be leaving the war-torn gaza strip on tuesday for qatar. "i had to evacuate for a lot of reasons you all know some of it but not all of it," he wrote on X, formerly known as twitter. "thank you all. pray for gaza." azaiza has been one of a key handful of individuals on the ground bringing live updates of the i****l-hamas war to his more than 18 million followers on instagram and over a million on X. "this is the last time you will see me with this heavy, stinky vest," azaiza said in an emotional instagram video" — via middleeasteye on instagram

So many of the people risking their lives to talk about what's happening to them, to report the genocide in Gaza, to stir global solidarity, they are young adults. These people are parents, sons and daughters, siblings, friends. Some of them have barely graduated, some didn't get the chance.

Thank you Motaz, for your dedication and service. We will keep fighting. We'll see you again in the free Palestine.

Palestinian resistance fighters thank nuns in Gaza for providing food and water during Israel’s latest invasion of the besieged city.

If you don't have the date visible, this photo was posted in 2014 right after one of the worst bombardments Palestinians experienced from the infringing illegal state. Over 2,000 Gazans died. Palestinian resistance is historical, traditional, older than most people can remember. This fight is not new and it was not provoked, it is the continuation to a decades long genocide of Native people at the hands of settlers and colonists.

We will not be silent.

Israeli air strike bombed this church in October 2023, killing numbers of displaced Christians and Muslims who were sheltering in it. The Church of Saint Porphyrius is Gaza’s oldest church and the 3rd oldest church in the world.
