swordfight [arthur pendragon x f!reader]
"in which you're a serving girl who gets the opportunity to play at being a knight."
a/n: thank you so much to @eurydiceauxenfers for being my beta reader and gassing up my writing. and thank you to @witchthewriter for feeding into my BBC merlin obsession. I've missed writing and this was a fun way to get back into it. lmk what you think and if i should write more!
It was unbecoming of a girl to participate in a knight’s work, and yet, you were never that kind of girl.
Whenever you were able to escape from your responsibilities, you liked to go to the grounds where the knights would practice. Ever since you were a child, you felt transfixed by the dance of swords. You’d go home afterward and practice the footwork with a wooden spoon as your weapon. As you got older, you managed to make a wooden sword of your own. The marks on the door frame are proof of your practice.
With a melee coming up soon, practice was even more frequent among the knights. Every time you had a chance, you would escape to your perch (a stone wall overlooking the grounds, hidden by a tree) and observe them. Still, there was one that you observed above all.
