I’m watching Splash (1984) which is a romcom about a guy who falls in love with a mermaid, and when she chooses a human name she chooses Madison and guy says “that’s not a real name, but alright” which seems to imply that Madison was not a name until at least the 80’s and all girls named Madison are actually named after the mermaid. thought you should know

I think...you might be right

what the fuck

Yeah she named herself off of a street in NYC. It was literally because of Splash that it became a girl's name. Same with MacKenzie, that's a Scottish last name that became a girl's name over the past few decades. Or there are people who named their daughters Khaleesi after Game of Thrones. 🤷‍♀️

i spot a plus size honey across the bar and start to chat her up until her bisexual boyfriend with a magic the gathering tattoo comes over and starts yelling at me so i turn him sideways so he can't make another action until his next turn

its crazy to me when people say they cant understand cat body language cause maybe its the ambigous neurodivergence in me but i find them easier to understand than people. they literally come with a rumble feature to let you know theyre happy. i wish i had that.

I so desperately want to be able to convince Trump supporters with facts and logic and empathy, but it’s so important to remember that their ignorance is INTENTIONAL. my mom didn’t let us watch Sleeping Beauty growing up. I asked her why recently and she said, “it was evil.” when I pointed out other movies had similar themes and depictions of evil, and asked what the difference was, she couldn’t. I pressed one more time and she just said, “it felt evil to me. I didn’t like it”. same thing with dune 2: she said it was “dark”, and I was, “literally, like the movie’s lighting? Or the themes?” and she said “I don’t know” and didn’t want to talk about it more. many conservatives genuinely cannot tell the difference between “I don’t like it” and “this is evil” and they do not care to learn despite many chances

This is true and it will forever frustrate me.

It was a bizarre experience to grow up in a "non-denominational" Christian household and being told that people who don't think like us are "too emotional" and "don't think logically" only to realize that logic and rationality play absolutely no part in the formation of the average conservative's beliefs about anything.

It's all aesthetics. "Evil" has nothing to do with harm, it's about something looking evil, feeling evil. Anything that makes you uncomfortable is morally wrong.

My dad once tried to tell me it was WRONG for women to dye their hair unnatural colors. Not that he didn't like it or that he thought it looked bad, that it was WRONG. And he COULD NOT substantiate the claim when I pressed him on it. All he could do was repeat "it's just wrong" and refused to back down. That's their approach to almost everything they believe.

cats being capable of understanding accidents and even giving you a little head bonk to let you know you're still cool makes it infinitely funnier that they don't understand when you're trying to help them

cats when you step on their tail: i'll admit that was rather ouchie, but given the lifetime of goodwill and trust between us, one must conclude this booboo is but a fluke.

cats when you try to get their claws unstuck from the couch covering: this nefarious bitch has never had a single honorable intention in their dishonest and shameful life, this must be one of their sinister plots or perhaps even an attempt on my life,

Just two homies watching Netflix and chilling.🦔💙🖤🍿

Nothing out of the ordinary lol.

People who self harm only for attention are just as valid as people who self harm for any other reason.

Seriously.

Parents often make the mistake of dismissing their child’s self harm as “attention seeking” when it’s otherwise.

But what always gets me is that, even if a child is harming themselves solely to get attention, that is a huge problem they need help for!

If a person has to go as far as to cause physical harm to themselves in order to gain what they feel as the proper amount of attention, that is someone who needs help ASAP.

No matter the form, no matter the severity, no matter the reason, self harm is a sign of severe distress that deserves immediate, intense attention.

And no one will ever convince me otherwise.
