This poll is asking about voluntary use of generative AI. For the purposes of this poll, do not count instances where you were required to use generative AI (e.g. for a school assignment, job required it, etc).

We ask your questions anonymously so you don’t have to! Submissions are open on the 1st and 15th of the month.

Worth noting that Artbreeder, Wombo, and that 3x3 “Kylo Ren at a Build-a-Bear” trendy generator thing from a few years back (Dall-E mini!), are all also generative AI. This Waifu Does Not Exist and This Person Does Not Exist are generative AI. Infinite Craft and Inspirobot and ElevenLabs and Goblin Tools use generative AI. AI image denoising is generative AI. Glaze and Nightshade? Also generative AI. I’m guessing that the “never used it” number is actually a lot lower than it seems...

Pov for the writing meme? :)

The girl who entered the tent wash exactly and not at all what Tybee had been expecting. Hed watched her from the woods last night, smiled his most charming smile for her at the ticket booth, kept a watchful globe of foxfire on her throughout the show. But something about her seemed changed, now that she was in his tent. She seemed to fit here somehow. Like the dark and stars and velvet suited her.

Tybee wanted very much to see her naked among those stars.

He began his usual pitch, tasting her luck as he read her palm. The flavor of it eluded him, in a way that only made him hungrier for it.

And all the while, he kept thinking of Gil’s face, of his joy this afternoon, his excitement when he described the girl hed met in the park.

Tybee had wanted that feeling then. Had felt the unfamiliar stirrings of jealousy at his friend’s happiness. It wasn’t that he wanted to take that happiness from Gil. It was that he wanted to feel that way, too.

The girl caught him in a clever trick of words, answering Ainsel when he asked of her her name. Tybee paid more attention to this quarry now, feeling the familiar stirrings of the chase. He liked prey that took effort to catch. And he liked the way his starlight reflected in her eyes.

Could he feel the same way Gil did? Not right this moment, obviously, this was just the thrill of the hunt. But of someone, if given enough time? Tybee had never tried to woo a heart before. He always went for the surer more quicker route between the legs. But if he could make someone feel about him the way Gil felt about his mystery girl… could he learn to feel that way about them?

sorry to post facebook videos on main but the sound of jello going through an industrial shredder is both mesmerizing and horrible

something about that one narrow staircase in Spadina station is deeply haunting to me, what do we think?

I think if those fluorescent lights flicker even one time I'm gonna invent teleportation and clip through the wall Bethesda-style at the same time and the noises will NOT be dignified

We've had nearly three thousand votes since this morning HOW is the vote still so fuckin even what the hell

there's like a day and a half left on this and the split is still unbelievably even

so close! you are a tick against their labor goals first, a worker second third and forth (bc you are now fulfilling extra roles in one single position) and a human being.... hmm, that's funny, I don't see it on the list. Maybe consumer is a synonym for human? that's what they want you to be on your days off, right?

I love Josh’s anti-classism so much. I grew up in a single parent household that didn’t have time/the ability to cook. I taught myself as an adult and ended up loving it. I cook with this stuff a lot. Shit, the RealLemon juice ends up in a lot of my cocktails. Sure, I like fancy ingredients when I can afford them and I have things I get picky about using - but I have bad hands, mincing garlic is painful as fuck. There’s a lot to be said for knowing how to work with what you have. Don’t shame people for trying, don’t shame people for feeding their families things that they enjoy.

if you are only a good cook if you have access to premium ingredients at whole foods or above prices then you arent really a good cook

how i'm handling my students using AI to write papers:

-don't accuse them on using AI from the get-go and instead ask them to informally define all the huge words that they used in their essay which i know they don't know the meaning of

-ask to see their original file where they "wrote" the essay. go to version history to see if it was just copy and pasted and then just edited a bit. i keep an eye out for the shit like "certainly! here's an essay about...."

-if they own up to it, they can re-do the assignment for a higher grade even if there will be an automatic penalty. if they don't, i process it like plagiarism and get my supervisor involved.

And this is much better than the immediate accusations. Some students have a good vocabulary. Stop accusing them of faking their essays without proof, and this is a good way to check.

Fellow students please stop using AI, go back to promising not to kill the school nerd if they do all your homework or something.
