Can you believe I used to prefer smugbug to wolfspider. Youthful ignorance. That smugbug is more popular in general speaks to a conspiracy against butch women in popular culture. Wolfspider is a blessing to this blighted fandom. Butch woman makes Taylor whimper in like the first chapter they see each other, and then they have a dog-based enemies to lovers arc. I mean come on.

The Otherverse is kind of fascinating because some of the worldbuilding allows it to be kind of a catch-all setting that explains how countless fantasy stories and myths and such could all happen in the same world, but only some. All the stuff like spirits and realms and stuff provides mechanics for all sorts of different stories, and Pale in particular indicates that lots of different stories and adventures are happening just offscreen, like Clementine's whole deal or Thea's backstory.

But with power scarcity and the Seal of Solomon and the world's propensity for violence and all that junk, it flavors and restricts the world too much for most fantasy and occult fare, which is how you get stuff like Wildbow saying that something resembling the Magic Schoolbus could only be created as a Demesne-Familiar hybrid if you fed it a child once per week.
