FAQs

What is TES Gala? 

An idea started from a treasure found in ESO, I developed a headcanon that the Altmer have something similar to the Met Gala. Loving the idea, I decided I wanted to try at making a small community event for tesblr focusing on fashion (and partying lol).

For one week, a gala will be held. A party invitation post will set the overall theme. Once you post your submission(s) to the event, it will be reblogged here to be shared. 

When is TES Gala?

To be determined, but currently looking at mid June. 

Where is the Gala set?

Anywhere! This isn’t set to the Altmer in Summerset. This can be a small village, a royal event in Cyrodiil, or a party taken to Oblivion. This can be the scene to a Thieves Guild or Dark brotherhood quest. This can be a Modern AU or anywhere on the in-universe timeline!

What mediums are accepted?

Just about anything! 

Just a few ideas, but not limited to:

  • Fan art (sketches, doodles, clothes designs, full blown renders, etc)
  • Fanfiction (can be either posted in full on Tumblr or a link to AO3)
  • Gifsets
  • Moodboards (Can't draw, but wanna show us what your OC would wear? Go for it!)
  • Animatics
  • Meta analysis (headcanons on fashion, using historical parallels, etc)
  • Embroidery/Beadwork

We’d love to see whatever you made ― digital, traditional, crafts, anything! 

Is there a submission limit?

No! If you have multiple ideas for the gala week, I encourage you to share all that you make!

What are the rules?

How do I submit my work?

Post your work on tumblr and tag it with #tesgala25. I will be tracking the tag all week long. You can also directly tag with @tes-gala

I will then share your work with tags for characters, mediums, and if needed, try my best with adding image ID/alt text. 

Alt text and image IDs

To increase the accessibility for our works, I do encourage all artists/graphic makers to use alt text/image IDs. This helps those with screen readers and is more inclusive.

OC Submissions & Use

To follow the party aesthetic, you may submit a TES Original Character through asks with information about them if you wish for your OC to cameo in another's work. The one submitting must understand they are giving reasonable permission for another to use their OC.

Those interested in using another's Original Character must use the OC respectfully and within reason. You must tag the owner with your submission.

If you are using a mutual's or friend's OC, that is not on the list, but you have permission, please tag the owner of that OC.

Who is running TES Gala?

Currently just one person. Should this become bigger than expected, I may ask for help.

There's such recency bias in fandom. As an author you post something, get a few reactions, and then it goes off into the bin. As a reader you check the tags, see what's new, and move on. But a lot of old stuff is really good. It's just sitting there, gathering dust, waiting for someone to take a peek.

So go on. Treat yourself.

It's time to sign up for FTH 2025!

Before you sign up, some reading material (if you're a returning creator, please give them another look, as we have changed a few things!)

We also wrote a little self-care reminder. The short version: we want to acknowledge that this year will be hard for many people for many reasons, and that stress can take a toll on creativity. Keep your own well-being in mind when planning your FTH offerings, and only offer what you really want and feel able to do. We'd truly rather have fewer sign-ups than have FTH deadlines cause you excessive stress at the end of the year.

Fandom Trumps Hate is back for its ninth year!

FTH is an annual fanworks auction that raises money for a number of small, progressive nonprofits: organizations that support trans rights, that advocate for immigrants and refugees, that protect pollinators and work on habitat restoration, support people seeking abortions, and more. (You can see the full list of 2025 organizations here.)

There are two ways to participate in Fandom Trumps Hate:

  1. sign up to create fanworks. Fan creators are the ones who make the auction happen by offering their time and talents to other fans. You'll have space to tell potential bidders what kinds of things you're especially excited to create, as well as what kinds of things fall outside your sphere of interest or comfort. You'll also have the chance to narrow down the list of organizations that your auction will support, if you feel strongly about a couple of causes in particular. Signups are open through February 2nd. You have the full year to create your piece for your bidder!
  2. bid on creators who are offering to make ATLA fanworks. Is there a tumblr shitpost you'd love to see turned into a fic? A scene in your head you'd love to see captured in art? A fic you'd love to get a culture picker or translation or beta reader for? Bidding on another fan creator is a great way to make that happen! If you win an auction for a given creator's work, you'll make a donation to one of the organizations that creator has identified, and then you and that creator can get started dreaming up the fanwork that will hit your sweet spots. Bidding will be run from February 25th to March 1st.

We've had great turnout in prior years for both ATLA and Legend of Korra, for both fics and art! It would be amazing to see more this year :)

If you are a lover of ATLA fic (or gifsets, or vids, or art, or any other kind of non-tangible fanwork) please consider signing up as a creator, or taking part as a bidder!

Here's one of my favorite little pieces, for many reasons. I particularly like diving right in to the middle of the action, and this is where that all started; tension, raw emotions and so on. I like the way it gets the reader sort of wondering if they should turn around and leave these two to their 'discussion' :)

Strelka labored and squirmed, pushing herself up into a sitting position and wincing as she did so. "Well?"

Lydia turned to Strelka, then followed her gaze beyond the fire to where Serana emerged from shadows into the fire's wavering glow like a summoned Daedra. She regarded each of them for a moment, lingering on Lydia who quirked an eyebrow in response. Then Serana glanced away, and down to her fidgeting fingers.

Why is she so nervous? I'm sure things with Strelka will go fine; she doesn't need to worry... Lydia frowned, studying Serana intently. It can't be Strelka herself, surely... maybe it's those things she said earlier... unless... No! Before Lydia could react, call everyone's attention away, stand up and throw a question out there or her arms in the air to diffuse the moment, Serana began.

"Damn it," she muttered, tucking the distraction of her hands behind her back. She inhaled deeply then her gaze skittered across each of them again but mostly to points beyond or around them, never directly at them, skipping often to the nearby tunnels like a cornered animal sizing up its chance for escape.

Thank you for the ask! So, three things. Only three? Jokes, aside, let's see what comes to mind.

So, first of all, just being a functioning adult in our society makes creative endeavors without the goal of monetization difficult. It robs us of your time and your passion to create.

Energy, I could use more of it. And the boundless zeal to create something that makes you forgo sleep just to channel it into a story. I miss that.

A new brain to word words better? Growing older is making me doubt my own skills. Brain fog is real. I've spent minutes raking my mind for a specific word, and it's frustrating how that's targeted my confidence in what I might be capable of creating. Is there counseling or therapy for struggling writers because I think I could use some. 😅

So I'm posting two of my older Summoning Day fics (instead of finishing my WIP chapter :} ) At least something good may come of this!

The time of year is weighing on Serana's mind, and something else is making its presence felt also.

Transformation

Her last mortal sensation, the feather-light tap of the droplet on her lucious lips. The droplet of blood. The man-thing's blood.
And then, with the trap set, she died.
What if Serana's ritual didn't go according to plan?

Head canons and other things

So here's my spin for Serana because she's arguably one of the more complex and interesting characters in Skyrim!

She's led a very isolated (un)life at the castle; an only child (did she perhaps ever have siblings? Uh-oh, someone catch that plot bunny before it falls in the Sea of Ghosts!) and perhaps very-bad- to the-worst-parents (one of them anyway) in Tamriel. Yet she lives, and is 'rescued' by the Dragonborn, thereby seeing that sometimes people do things for kindness or empathy.

I think that the rough thick-skinned exterior she wears when the DB meets her is as much a survival tactic as anything; show no emotion unless endorsed by your psychotic father. Be royal, above the peasants.

Yet when she's out on the road traveling she's a complete emotional wreck when she sees a dead bunny (probably not a plot bunny but who knows). She shows she has empathy and emotion and wants to experience everything (including getting whacked in the head with a pickaxe). She wants to live, to feel.

It sounds like a classic (l)onl(e)y child story but I like to think she softens up and has an inner lightheartedness that the DB brings out in her (at least that's how I write her); that she chooses joy or at least happiness, seeing how the world can be different, over emotional impassive-ness to protect herself. Once she learns to trust the DB and those around them I feel she might be more outgoing and positive herself, more prone to laugh, etc.

Or maybe my DB just pisses her off, I don't know! XD

New Chapter Posted! :)

Phew! It's taken a ridiculous length of time for me to get this together, longer than the prior 12 chapters combined! Writing has just been sooo sloowww this year :(

But it's out there now! Here's a snippet:

Trust - Confessions

Lydia's heart felt as though it had cracked in two from a heavy blow. Tremors took hold of her hands as she reached out and lightly cupped Jordis' cheek in case the Sword Maiden might fade away, never to return. "Hey, you!" she breathed, tears flowing freely down her cheeks. "You're finally awake!"
"Uh," Jordis gurgled in a low voice, her eyes closing again. "Do I have to be? Can't I go back to sleep? In spite of some terrible dreams, I feel like I could sleep for a week." She fell silent for a few moments and Lydia thought she might have lapsed back into unconsciousness, but then her voice croaked again. "Whatever we drank last night, let's not have it again. It wasn't some spiced wine, was it? That stuff of Evette's is always too strong for me, but it does taste divine."
Words failed Lydia. She brought the back of her free hand to her lips, trying to stifle sobs and a snort of laughter, shaking as they wracked her frame. Tears blurred her vision and a wave of emotion hit her as a smile wavered on her lips. I can't, I have to be strong! She turned away, closing her eyes for a moment and bit her lip hard to keep from crying out. A laugh snuck past and she tried to catch it but missed, ending in a shaky snort. Finally she turned back to face Jordis. "Gods you're an idiot, woman!"
"What?" Jordis wheezed. "I feel quite... awful, actually. What did we drink anyway?"
