writeblr intro!!

hello!! i am looking for people to follow and i decided it's time for me to finally properly introduce myself, so here it is!!

about me

hi!! i'm bess, he/him pronouns, and i'm very new to tumblr. i write purely as a hobby and most of my writing experience comes from writing fanfiction, although i do have some original projects, such as my current wip :D

i'm here really just to vibe, find some inspiration and some cool people with similar interests :D my activity might be spotty, but i'm always keen on finding new people to follow. feel free to interact if anything sparks here your interest so i can follow you!!

things i like to read/write:

fun fact one of the world champions in pepper-eating contests is a trans woman and she actually faced significant backlash because people somehow thought she had a biological advantage. to eating spicy pepper

update bc i went back and checked: her name is brianna “the chilli queen” skinner and she set a record in 2017 by slamming back 23 carolina reapers consecutively. she only stopped when told to by the referees, and the next year she stepped down out of boredom. queen

Here's a picture of her, by the way

And her super supportive wife

The championship, it should be noted, is unisex. Apparently being a trans woman gives you an innate biological advantage over both cis men and cis women.

trans women are more powerful than cis men and women pass it on

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.

people always ask me what motivates me to write but i can’t give them the real answer which is that my characters enter my dreams and berate me for abandoning them if i take too long of a break from their stories

"undoing this character's death would take away his sacrifice and character arc" girl I don't give a shit. I'm bringing him back through the power of ao3 fix-it fics and there's nothing you can do to stop me x

The urge to be mysterious and cool but I can’t stop yapping about shit

I need to know how much you guys sleep. I sleep for an average of 8-10 hours every night (I go to sleep at 9:30/10 and wake up at 7 usually). I can function on six hours, though.

Reblog this you fools

write for an imaginary audience, actually. now, since that audience is imaginary, they can like all the stuff you like and enable you how you want to be enabled and enjoy your quirks and signatures just as much as you do. it's an imaginary audience. mine loves my writing and how I just write the same dynamics over and over and sometimes there's magic.

artist in denial of being depressed: omg this 2 month long art block has been crazy... sorry i haven't updated any of my fics in a long while! it's just been super difficult to daydream! so weird that i've lost a little bit of passion for my current comfort character and ocs... this couldn't possibly have any implications or alternative explanations

people saying some variation to "oh no" in the notes of this post are very funny but at the same time. i wish you a very Feel Better

the absolute best dynamic to read/write about is between 1 person who is so good at performing and wearing masks that they don’t know who they really are and 1 person who cannot be anyone but their most excruciatingly authentic self at all times and sees right through them; the mirrorball and the one who is not like the regulars, so to speak

see writing is funny because sometimes you have to google things like “can the human body survive with every rib broken” and other times you have to google things like “is there an ikea in manhattan???”

writing is cool because the whole time you do it, you're thinking "is this shit? is this a steaming pile of hot garbage? is this the worst thing ever written by anyone?" and then you literally never find out

So Fox News ran a story about how they think libraries are turning into drug-infested sex dens and I am shocked, shocked that I was never offered any drugs during my 15+ years working in libraries.

Where do they think the sex is happening?? Every single aisle is lit in that horrible LED lighting. The teens don't even make out here anymore.

As a state certified librarian I can assure you that you just have to go into your local library and ask if they're participating in the new Fox News Hysteria program smh. If they're not, you'll just have to renew your library card and use the fun and valuable resources they're offering right now, such as wifi hotspots, museum passes, dvd lending, mid level adult erotica, ebook lending, and printing! 😔

Jokes aside, here's a nice textbook example piece for any young folks who had not yet seen the "if a society agrees that a Thing is Bad, then people in power have a vested interest in labeling their political opponents as Bad Thing" principle in action.

With the recent run of censorship laws in red states, public libraries have proven a consistent stumbling block. They are not going along with the right-wing agenda of collective memory wipe and public gag order on topics of queerness and racial tension. Public libraries are becoming, increasingly, politically inconvenient for this faction.

And so, it turns out that public libraries are Full Of Sex And Drugs. Just absolute Dens of Sin and Iniquity. Shocking! Who would have thought?
