Ryn's Ramblings

@ryns-ramblings / ryns-ramblings.tumblr.com

A writeblr! Hello, I'm Ryn,.They/them, Queer, 34, Fantasy Writer, and Roleplayer. You will find info on my WIPs in the pinned post. I'm always happy to receive asks or be tagged in games!

This is the blog for Ryn’s Ramblings, a writing blog in which I process not only my works-in-progress but also discuss and post about my roleplaying characters. I also have two side blog connected to this account: @ryn-is-learning, my workblr/studyblr and @rynsrpstuff, my roleplaying and photoshop resources.

I have a bio link below, but here is a bit about me! I’m Ryn (they/them), a thirty-something year old writer and roleplayer who does this in their spare time. In real life I am a recent masters student graduate who is now working as a mental health counselor. I live in New York City and have for nine years, but I am from the state of Tennessee in the US and lived in New Orleans for three years.

I am more than happy to be tagged in ask games, tag games, and in WIP tag lists! My ask box is always open for anything--if you need to vent, want encouragement, etc.

DNI lists on this website are fucking insane

can we explain to early-twenties autistic lgbt people that they . cant be saying these things. you cant be calling people 'degens' in your dni you cant do that. you cant do that man. can we do a history lesson. you cant do that

YOU CANT DO THAT MAN

"in defense of using the term degen, it's generally applied to pedophiles" - conservative man who might actually shoot a trans woman if he saw one within 50 meters of his child, and also LGBT tumblr users who do not know things they should know

"is this too cliche?" who cares? bro, write what you have fun writing. stuff your manuscript full of your favourite tropes. the same themes you love. all inspired by things you grew up with. do it all. go off. load. it. up. be freeeee

wait do people read first person stories and think they're the ones in the story???

Saw people talking about not liking first person, which is fair, but their reasoning was like "I would not do that" and I don't understand that mindset.

First person stories are still about a character. A character making their own decisions. First person isn't about you???? At least I thought it wasn't. What am I missing? I've always seen first person as just a more in-depth look into a character's mind and stricter POV. Not as a reader stand-in.

I see first person stories like I'm sitting down across from the narrator getting the wildest tea imaginable

Most accurate way to read a first person story

in order to not succumb to sex negative conservatism you have to accept that people will get off to things that are upsetting to you. and you cannot assume anything about what they have or have not experienced, what they do or do not believe, and how they act based solely on what gets them off. even if it's extremely confusing and disturbing to you. there are people who have only ever had heterosexual vanilla sex in missionary with the lights off, who actively contribute to more real world harm than your average fetish artist. kink is not a reliable source of information on someone's moral standing. it just feels good to think that way.

being individually polyamorous is not a radical or political act that will ultimately have any real impact on the structure of society, but i do think that opposing societal monogamy is. i think we need to be having more discussions about how monogamy as a concept is strongly connected to misogyny, to abuse, to the family as a politically protected unit, etc. "abolishing monogamy" will not necessarily do away with these things, but monogamy is an integral part of how these structures function!
