hi, i am redtailcatfish, aka fishainsley, ainsley, or cicada.

i’m autistic, queer, an adult, and in college. any pronouns.

i like bugs, marine biology, paleontology, archeology, witchcraft, nature, and other stuff, all of which and more ends up on this blog.

i mostly just spam reblog stuff but i may occasionally post the occasional original photo, art, or thought.

i think trans people and nonbinary people are cool.

ive posted art here before but i just made an artblog and its at @fishainsley which is also my username for other things

i have a website at fishainsley.art

I do not trigger tag bugs or spiders.

common trigger tags are:

* #animal death - anything to do with dead or dying animals

* #reblog bait - posts that contain rhetoric such as "you must reblog this if you're x" or "you're bad if you don't reblog this"

* #unreality - fake news, goncharov type stuff, and the like. things that are not reality.

* I do not add "cw", "tw" or similar to my content warning tags. If I'm warning for puppies, I'll tag with "puppies" or "puppy" and that's it.

I feel like 90% of "ancient curses" are probably adequately explained by the fact that the self-proclaimed adventurers who ostensibly fell victim to them were, as a class, a bunch of dipshits who engaged in frequent international travel in an era before antibiotics and vaccines. Like, the list of novel pathogens these guys were risking exposure to on a regular basis was effectively "all of them". That's gotta leave a mark.

a couple years ago the eric carle museum of picture book art had an exhibit on diane & leo dillon who are responsible for so many iconic illustrations. i went back twice just to see the collection again. this is a sliver of their work— it’s hard to find high res images.

Published in “Transvestia” magazine #38 (April 1966). I think original art could be by Bob Tupper.

not sure if anyone’s added this info here but because I wanted to know more I checked and….

Every issue of transvestia magazine, which ran from the 60’s through to the 80’s is available through the uVic archives. It was a groundbreaking publication for the crossdressing and later the transgender community. Check it out.

GET GRUFFALO'D, BITCH

If you haven't heard of Julia Donaldson, she's primarily a picture book author, who we can thank for extremely popular Halloween classic Room on the Broom as well as the Gruffalo.

Let this be a testament to the power of picture books.

I'm living for these jokes.

Also I need "GET GRUFFALO'D, BITCH" on a T-shirt.

Hey you all know about that fungus that possesses ants to make them climb on the tip of grass blades in hopes of getting eaten by a cow, so that the fungus can continue its life cycle in the cow's guts? Because I think that's the kind of thing that's wrong with cave divers.

We don't know what's down there. We don't know what's gotten into their heads that makes them so determined to physically, personally go down there to find out. But I wouldn't entirely dismiss the possibility that whatever has gotten into them is very invested in getting eaten by whatever is down there.

"i was a transtrender" no you werent. you were just questioning your identity and then you decided that wasn't for you. that's a fucking healthy thing to do. fuck off lmao

Questioning is:

-healthy

-common

-normal

Questioning isn't:

-an excuse to be transphobic towards often young individuals

I once thought I was asexual and it turned out I actually wasn’t ready to have sex before I had transitioned to a point where I was more comfortable with my body.

And in that time, the asexual community welcomed me, supported me, helped me feel good about who I was, protected me from the harm I would have done to myself if I had pushed myself to have sex. That made a huge difference.

If I see an opportunity to support asexual organizations, I do so not just because it’s good but also because they were there for me in a difficult part of my life without judgement. I owe them for that.

If you at one point identified as transgender or questioned your gender identity, maybe you too sought a home in the wrong place because you were struggling with something else. And it is very likely that the people in that home, the transgender community, believed you and welcomed you and listened to you.

And then when it turns out that you were searching for the wrong thing, you don’t just leave that community behind but you turn around and shit on them? Shame on you. What a shitty thing to do.

Fic that appears to be an AU where the characters have a little low stakes meet cute and are having a sweet little romance, only for it to be revealed that no, this is in-universe and they both have amnesia and all the other characters are trying to find them and are losing their fucking shit

"silksong confirmed but it's gonna cost 90 dollars" okay next time just take me out back and shoot me

April is National Deaf History Month! This month used to be celebrated March 13-April 15 to commemorate some important milestones in Deaf history (such as the first Deaf president at Gallaudet University on March 13, 1988 and the founding of the first Deaf school on April 15, 1817). A few years ago, it was moved to the month of April, to highlight Deaf history beyond these academic milestones and tell a history more inclusive of BIPOC Deaf people. https://www.nad.org/2022/01/31/national-deaf-history-month-dates/
