Spring is in the air and I'm enjoying every single ray of sunshine. I wasn't productive at all this week off, but that was nice. Today will be the last "lazy" day (only work wise, I've been hiking a lot) and tomorrow I'll have to prepare my classes for Monday. I'm not looking forward to working but I don't mind either. What a privilege!

My turn! 14, 25, 28 please!

whats something upcoming that you’re excited for?

just answered! but...probably for summer to come! i'm so excited for it to be warm out and for people to be sitting outside along the streets and sleeping with the window open and not freezing

if your soul was a color, what would it be?

so i think brown or maybe a golden-hour yellow, but my friends say sage green and my mom said "sorry honey...purple..." so i'm not sure LMAO

what are you proudest of?

probably the work i've done to take care of myself and improve my mental health! i did a lot of it by myself, which i don't really recommend (please seek professional help) but i'm so proud of how i've grown. anyone who's followed me for a while can probably tell just how much i've changed (if you're keeping up with my blog that much) but i feel like completely a different person than i have been, especially before 2023.

also probably not exactly what this question means but i'm so proud of my family! they mean so much to me, and any chance i get i will talk about my mom, grandparents, sister, etc. i love them so much.

what is your go to comfort show?

big little lies, gilmore girls, or little house on the prairie! also really enjoy gidget haha which my mom showed me!

what’s something you want to create soon?

this summer, my goal is to create a scrapbook of my undergrad! i have so many photos and want to make sure i keep physical memories of my life :)

do you like to garden? have you ever grown something?

yes, and not really? i love yard work in general; i find it therapeutic and very satisfying. that being said, i haven't grown something from seed to sprout...hopefully when i have my own yard!

10 and 14 for the soft asks!

When was the last time you laughed so hard you cried? (or just felt really good afterwards)

hmmm i can't remember. probably with my coworkers tbh!!

whats something upcoming that you’re excited for?

i just got an internship for this summer/fall working in a medical center that provides healthcare (primary care, obgyn, mental health, referrals) and social services to refugees and survivors of t*rture. i'm incredibly excited; this is really what i've been wanting to do for a while and i think the organization and work both align beautifully with my values and goals. i'll be working directly with patients and also helping with various program initiatives and i'm SO excited to start!!

cruelty is so easy. youre not special for choosing it

"The trouble is that we have a bad habit, encouraged by pedants and sophisticates, of considering happiness as something rather stupid. Only pain is intellectual, only evil interesting. This is the treason of the artist; a refusal to admit the banality of evil and the terrible boredom of pain."

-Ursula K. LeGuin, The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas

"Evil is boring. Right? I kinda believe in the banality and mundaneness of evil. Evil is just selfish impulses, which at the end of the day are really easy to understand. It’s easy to understand why people do bad things. It’s like β€œyeah, ok, you’re selfish and scared and cruel, I get it”. Being good is complex and beautiful and hard." - Brennan Lee Mulligan

april 5:

  • busy busy day at work
  • had to miss protests bc of said work. was PISSED about it.
  • but got lots of family updates from them!
  • watched some grand slam track
  • trader joe’s with my roommate
  • clean cozy shower and bed
  • continuing an excellent book
  • got myself flowers to cheer myself up :) i’ve been really anxious recently
β€œI can see myself lying in my latticed bed, unable to sleep, somehow confusedly foreseeing that life would be like this: full of many special things that are meant for oneself alone and may not be spoken.”

nice little meeting with my program today to discuss what to do if *ce comes to our school, to our houses, or stops us in the street. what valid warrants look like, but they may start forging them. avoid deportation at all costs because you will face human rights violations in detention and you won’t be able to be found. told international students (and citizens to some extent) to delete all social media and only communicate by calls, avoid flying at all costs, travel with a burner phone and only with americans, and keep multiple photocopies of identification. also vaguely urged to β€œconsider canada.”

my professor (whose life’s work has been supported by USIP) is going to the usip clap-out and looking at the pictures of her holding her β€œgoodbye united states institute of peace” sign is making me BAWL this morning

things i've done recently that feel good (mostly bc i'm usually bad about Getting Things Done/Following Through):

  • apartment hunting & two apartment walkthroughs
  • applied to 55 jobs/internships since february
  • two internship interviews and follow-up emails
  • refilled my meds a week early so i won't run out
  • scheduled a dr's appt to check iron levels
  • found a new doctor/transferred records
  • called three family members i should be calling more often
  • finished my homework a day in advance instead of hours before

also i ran 6 miles today and drank tons of water and i'm listening to paul cauthen and am feeling tired but happy

people will design soap dispensers and dish racks and go like it's okay if this is capable of getting rusty, right. that's an acceptable weak point for an item whose sole immutable destiny is to get wet every time it's used, right
