Disclaimer:This is no shade towards anyone in particular but I have seen a few people state this over the last couple of months so I wanted to address it..
I love Acotar as much as the next person but to credit 1 author for a whole genre is not a good take IMO.Bloomsbury didn’t create the word “Romantasy” or the genre. The Term “Romantasy” actually came from Urban dictionary long before SJM even published a book.
There were many Romantasy books before Acotar here are a couple of examples…
*Twilight by Stephanie Meyers..arguably is what put romantasy in the spotlight more than any other series but still even twilight was not the first Romantasy book or series
*The Mortal instrument series by Cassandra Clare
*The Black Jewel series by Anne Bishop
Furthermore there has been vampire/wherewolf/whatever other magical creature romance fantasy books around for decades. Booktok blew up SJM for this generation so I think that’s why some people think this but to say she created the genre? Is not true & kinda seems really a slap in the face for all the authors who came before her.
There are MANY great Romantasy authors. We don’t need to try and pit SJM against anyone else or give her all the credit for the authors who came before her.
I think it’s a testament to Elains heart that she never hated the fae.The sisters had all been taught they were evil and terrible and When the story starts out Feyre & Nesta hate fae. We see in Acomaf that though Elain may be intimidated by them the first time she meets the bat boys she is willing to help. Nesta doesn’t want to help them and even points out Elains fiancé hates their kind but Elain still wants to help them and gets Nesta to agree as well.

Just another example of how Elain sees the world & people differently from others.

We have a firsthand account of the torture and abuse Feyre was subjected to UTM, yet there’s STILL people in this fandom who write fucking dissertations that argue her trauma is nothing in comparison to others….No, I actually hate you freaks so much.
So I’m someone who has never fawned over feysand. Like feyre has her awesome moments but she was just never MY ABSOLUTE FAV.. I don’t hate her or anything there are just a lot of other characters I like more. So I think I’m coming from a pretty fair spot when I say this. No one can accuse me of just favoring feyre lol…
What feyre went through UTM was terrible. I actually just finished rereading the first book and it’s actually very sad what she went through. Between the torture, the isolation, the depression, the starvation, being forced to get drunk and being touched without her consent ect it was all terrible.
I actually can understand why some may not like feyre but that doesn’t change what she went through in the canon text. It was still terrifying and terrible.
The thing about these books is yes every single character has trauma. They have all been through terrible things. But you don’t need to minimize one characters trauma to try and point out why whoever your fav is “had it worse”. They all had it bad.

Hi anon this is a great ask.
I LOVE Lucien and Azriel. But if I absolutely had to choose who I loved more it would be Lucien at this point. That may change once we get to know Azriel more though.
Azriels also kind of at a disadvantage because we get a lot more of Lucien throughout the series than Azriel so far. We get a lot of time getting to know Lucien in book 1 and we get a lot of Lucien in book 3. Also when we are with Lucien we get his thoughts and emotions as he is more open than Azriel. When we start to get to know Azriel he’s a lot more closed off. We just started to really get to know him in acosf/hofas and even still we don’t get much of his emotions. Just glimpses of it here and there.
People think because I’m such a diehard Elriel it’s something against Lucien and it’s not. I’ve actually shipped Lucien & Vassa much longer then I have shipped Elriel lol.
Part of the reason why I don’t ship E/ucien is because I love Lucien (and Elain) so much. Elain is not good for Lucien. Lucien is not good for Elain. & that’s not putting either down it’s simply saying they are not good for each other. They bring out negative feelings in each other where we are at in the story as of now. Lucien also deserves someone who wants him whole heartedly and would choose him above everyone else. & as of now that is definitely not Elain.
I think SJM is setting up a amazing storyline for Lucien w Vassa. It’s obvious she’s got plans for him. I think Lucien will be the one to break Vassas curse and be a big part in taking down Koschei. Book 1 Lucien is literally everything and it’s nice we are starting to see some of his spunk and sass come back. I personally cannot wait for Lucien’s pov.
I think Lucien and Azriel are both equally great men I just feel a little more connected to Lucien because we know him more than Azriel right now.
To the first point…there are other Elriels who do like Lucien. Sure some don’t and that’s totally ok. Everyone has different opinions but there are a lot who still do. I couldn’t tell ya why they don’t like him because I genuinely think he’s one of Sarah’s best characters like over all but again everyone is different.
If someone wants to commission Elain in a potato sack, or Illyrian leathers. Who cares. Its fanart.
Azriel doesn’t want Gwyn.
Elain doesn’t want Lucien.
Yet you guys have tons of fanart of them together as couples/cuddling/kissing/whoknowswhatelse.
So let’s not pretend yall go by canon or care about canon when it comes to your ship fanart.

Rereading the First book and am I the only one who totally missed that it’s Tamlin who frees Prythian from Amarantha??! All this time I remembered it being feyre but it wasn’t of course she helped but ultimately it was Tamlin who did it.
Amarantha first steals the High lords powers..
“She knew—knew that even with her personal army, she could never conquer the seven High Lords by numbers or power alone. But she was also cunning and cruel, and she waited until they absolutely trusted her, until they gathered at a ball in her honor, and that night she slipped a potion stolen from the King of Hybern’s unholy spell book into their wine. Once they drank, the High Lords were prone, their magic laid bare—and she stole their powers from where they originated inside their bodies—plucked them out as if she were taking an apple from its branch, leaving them with only the basest elements of their magic.
Lucien goes to try and talk to Amarantha as tamlins emissary to broker peace between Tamlin and Amarantha after she took tamlins powers but no she wanted Tamlin as her lover,Lucien Mouths off and then she takes Lucien’s eye.
Lucien … Lucien was sent to her as Tamlin’s emissary, to try to treat for peace between them.” Bile rose in my throat.“She refused, and … Lucien told her to go back to the shit-hole she’d crawled out of. She took his eye as punishment. Carved it out with her own fingernail, then scarred his face. She sent him back so bloody that Tamlin … The High Lord vomited when he saw his friend.”…….
Then she holds a masquerade ball with everyone and wants all of the spring court to attend… the spring court is to wear masks in nod to tamlins shape shifting powers… once everyone’s there the only way. She will agree to peace is for tamlin to be her lover. He then says he would rather marry a human then ever touch her. Then she sets the curse on tamlin,,a human who hates fae had to kill a fae and tamlin had to get her to fall in love w him. This curse is only specifically for the spring court.
“When all were assembled, she claimed that peace could be had—if Tamlin joined her as her lover and consort. But when she tried to touch him, he refused to let her near. Not after what she’d done to Lucien. He said—in front of everyone that night—that he would sooner take a human to his bed, sooner marry a human, than ever touch her. She might have let it go, had he not then said that her own sister had preferred a human’s company to hers, that her own sister had chosen Jurian over her.”
“You can guess how well that went over with Amarantha. But she told Tamlin that she was in a generous mood—told him she’d give him a chance to break the spell she’d put upon him to steal his power. “He spat in her face, and she laughed. She said he had seven times seven years before she claimed him, before he had to join her Under the Mountain. If he wanted to break her curse, he need only find a human girl willing to marry him. But not any girl—a human with ice in her heart, with hatred for our kind. A human girl willing to kill a faerie.”
So when feyre goes UTM she only makes a bargain to do the trials and solve the riddle to save the spring court.. and free tamlins power. It’s all to save them and Tamlin.
“But I’ll make a bargain with you, human,” she said, and warning bells pealed in my mind. Unless your life depends on it, Alis had said. “You complete three tasks of my choosing—three tasks to prove how deep that human sense of loyalty and love runs, and Tamlin is yours. Just three little challenges to prove your dedication, to prove to me, to darling Jurian, that your kind can indeed love true, and you can have your High Lord.” She turned to Tamlin. “Consider it a favor, High Lord—these human dogs can make our kind so lust-blind that we lose all common sense. Better for you to see her true nature now.” “I want his curse broken, too,” I blurted. She raised a brow, her smile growing, revealing far too many of those white teeth. “I complete all three of your tasks, and his curse is broken, and we—and all his court—can leave here. And remain free forever,”
So we know she ends up solving the riddle and completing the trials and THAT breaks Tamlins curse not prythians. BUT once Tamlin gets his power back he kills Amarantha and THAT is what freed all of prythian. Tamlin killing Amarantha is what broke prythians curse.
Now obviously he couldn’t have done that unless feyre broke his curse so she’s still a bad ass for that but ultimately it is Tamlin who breaks prythians curse.

Oh Anon, you really must be new here.
I want a Tamlin book more than anyone else. So if we do ever get his POV you’ll be hearing me screaming cheering across the world because I’m so excited. Lol
As for Elucien, although I have NEVER shipped them I absolutely love both characters. So I’m going to read Elain and/or Luciens book regardless. Do I think Elucien would ever be as great of a romance as Elriel could be? No but I’ll read the book w a open mind either way, I’m still excited for their individual stories either way.
As for crashing out if Elriel doesn’t happen you won’t see me crashing out or throwing any tantrums. It will have absolutely no effect on my life lol. Yes I LOVE the ship but at the end of the day it’s not that serious This is a fictional series. I’ll read fanfic and carry on as usual.
The Acotar 10 year anniversary is a little over a month away. Hopefully this means we are in the home stretch for a announcement finally. We will see though.

There is no canon confirmation Gwyn or Azriel are into each other romantically and they are not together. At this time in the story we actually received canon confirmation in the most recent book Azriel is romantically into Elain. So yea I absolutely deny Gwynriel is canon bc they are not canon lol.
The only canon ships at this time is Elriel and Elucien. Elriel because there is canon confirmation they are romantically into each other & Elucien bc they are mates. (Even tho we are told not all mated pairs are love matches, since they are mates and both still single at this time they are a canon ship)
Gwynriel is all based on theories. Can I see why some people may interpret some things in the text to possibly mean something could happen between them down the line? Sure, I mean I don’t agree w it but I can still see why ppl may think they are possiblities but that doesn’t make them canon it’s still all based on people’s theories as of now. We could say the same thing about any ship pairing. There are a lot of people who think there is stuff in the book to support Eris and Nesta lol. Does that make them a canon ship? Nope. 🤷♀️
Recieved this message from a new follower today and THIS is why I always try to provide canon to back up my opinion or the canon that makes me think something. I think a lot of times in this fandom people go by their opinions or what they want to happen rather then what’s actually in the books.
(When it comes to Nessian like i truly don’t know how people are still debating them bc like they had their happy ending but here we are….🤣🤷♀️ Nessian is one of my absolute favorite book couples of all time)
