I feel like we really lost something when we started looking at writing as a reader-centric product meant to appeal to the desires of a specific audience rather than a writer-centric approach of someone writes whatever particular thing particular compels them/whatever weird thing the demons in their head want to talk about, and people out there who are also compelled, and/or relate, find that writing. A lot of discussions of writing really center around what readers want rather than a writer's exploration. Sometimes as a reader I don't know what I want. I click on a fic or pick up a book I'm not sure about but that looks interesting, and I love it. Reading what I expect to get is it's own joy, but we always need to expand our horizons and not get mad at creators for not always writing what we want/expect.

I feel like enough time has passed since Steven Universe ending to say this: inventing your own alter ego and then launching a war against yourself is an iconic move actually. It's like if Batman and Bruce Wayne had public beef except if entire armies were involved. She really Did That. She said "go big or go home" and then went so big that no-one could ever go home, and then changed the fate of the entire galaxy by faking her own death. She slutted it up bisexually and broke countless hearts along the way. Iconic move after iconic move. Non-stop slaying. A queen an icon a legend. No-one does it like her.

Children please stop calling the slightest hint of sexual desire β€œgooning” I’m going to strangle all of you

🫡stop directly contributing to the growing anti sex sentiment

Have u considered that sexual activity is a natural part of the human experience rather than some invading wild animal which must be staved off and hidden in shame?

Source: genitals are a part of the human body

Also, I'm not usually a linguistic prescriptivist, but…

This fella picking up Popeye is a goon.

Or more commonly…these guys in the back? Goons.

We gotta give goons back their word

Fandom has its Aspects for sure but my least favourite is that, for some, it's treated as a means of divining people's beliefs based on their adherence to, deviation from or just general obliviousness to the ~standard and correct~ interpretations of the source material, or popular fanon. (is this just the current shipping debate repackaged? am i out of touch? yes)

I don't have any strong opinions about fictional people or their fictional situations. Sometimes I have strong opinions about the creation or marketing of a work, its translations, its accessibility or its impact etc. because those things have some connection to real life.

But fiction is my space for wild mental flip-flopping. I will write and devour fic that actively conflicts with other fic I write or enjoy *because I like writing and I like ideas*, and because I like when ideas are presented in an interesting, convincing or entertaining way. I have very little attachment to specific depictions, even those I make myself. I don't hang my identity or more accurately my online persona on them. I have different levels of commitment to different interpretations at different times.

I hate the concept of fandom as some kind of extended canon to be staked out and agreed upon, with artistic dissent made tantamount to, like, ideological dissent? Warring factions? No, I want your weird takes. Your weirdest, in fact, especially if you make a totally different one the next day. I want your imagination to transform mine for a while.

I do not come to fandom to find people to agree with. I'm here for the hot takes and the brazenly unsellable amateur art.
