If we had happy endings we'd all be under gravestones now

When Edward is explaining Carlisle’s theory of vampire ~gifts~ being a very strong personality attribute carried over to the next life, he mentions Carlisle guessed he was “always aware of others’ thoughts” or whathaveyou. I believe in my heart of hearts Carlisle was softening the blow with that phrasing— he really thinks Edward was an exceptionally nosy lil bitch

“You aren’t going through with this because a sword is hanging over your head. We will take care of the problems, and I will take care of you. When we’re through it, and there is nothing forcing your hand, then you can decide to join me, if you still want to. But not because you’re afraid. You won’t be forced into this.”

Look Rosalie Edward and Carlisle are just the perfect little angst circle to me. YES there should be emotional consequences to immortality. YES you should be bitter about it towards each other. YES you should resent each other for what each of you represent, for the life you lost and for the undeath that none of you asked for!

Sometimes I like to imagine that, as much as they don't get along, Rosalie and Edward are the closest of any of the "siblings". In that sibling kinda way. You hate each other, you grate on each other's nerves, but part of that resentment comes from the fact that you understand each other too well.

Even worse when one of you is a mind reader. Rosalie resents Edward for understanding exactly what she's going through, and for treading carefully where it actually matters, because that was meant to be private. Edward knows that resentment intimately, can't help but hear it like a constant hum in his mind, and resents her for it, even though she can't help her thoughts any more than he can help reading them.

But when it comes down to it, nobody else quite gets it. They have more fun when they're in someone else's company, they can forget their sorrows and self hatred for a bit, but when they just need to be quietly honest about their lives? That's when they need each other the most.

i've said it before but it will forever and always make me insane that jacob's ending is to join the cullens for the sake of bella not having to give anything up. they find out jake will be immortal & tied to renesmee forever, so bella gets to smile & say "my family is finally complete! ^-^" but jake already HAS a family. he has a father and 2 sisters. quil, embry, seth and sam are like his brothers. jacob and leah were planning to run away together. he's always been welcome in emily's home, sue has been a family friend since before his birth. bella abandons her mortality by choice because she feels no connection to the people around her, but jacob has really strong bonds. it's clear that every character we meet in la push is like family to him, he's an active member of the community. jake would've graduated high school and been a mechanic, would've grown into a young man. a good friend, a fun uncle, a present son. he's set up to have such a rich life. and he's just magically compelled to give that up. beyond his control, he loses sight of everything, because his high school crush's baby is now the singular most important thing to him. he's perpetually 18 with his perpetually 18 year old girlfriend, running around vancouver or alaska or wherever with the girl who friendzoned him at 16 & her in-laws (who were antagonistic to him for months). and i'm just supposed to say omg yay now he doesn't have to let go of bella! everyone is happy! it's complete madness

I certainly understand why Edward pre-Bella thought he was doomed to be alone forever and all that. Like I get it. I understand living with all those couples would engender those feelings. It would be natural to feel that way.

But, like, Jasper was a vampire for something like 85 years before he met Alice.

Carlisle was a vampire for about 250 years before he met Esme.

(Kate doesn't meet Garrett until she's over 1000 years old!)

So even in Edward's own family his Forever Alone experience isn't at all unusual. In fact, it's Rosalie finding Emmett after only two years that's the outlier here!

And if it's his age that has him (and Esme!) worried, well, there's Benjamin and Tia.

So chin up, buddy. There was always hope.

I don't understand the argument "they're boring" used against Edward/Bella. Especially, when it's pro-Jacob/Bella. Against any other of the Cullen couples, sure. I could understand finding EdBella boring.

But there is nothing more boring than Jacob/Bella. There's no passion. No angst. Bella risks her life to be in Edward's presence. Edward battles a raging monster within every second he's with her. Even with those sacrifices, neither thinks they are good enough for the other. Edward and Bella kill for each other. Die for each other. Suffer for each other. It's everything a fictional romance needs and more.

In a story where Jacob/Bella are endgame, they would just be regular people. Living a normal life. I mean, I understand that's the appeal for some people, but it's also objectively the most boring ending.

Reblogging this to say that I don't understand the argument that Edward / Bella are boring even if you do prefer other parings. They are just as compelling as any couple. Carlisle might have waited 200 years opposed to Edward's 100, but he wasn't listening into the minds of three perfectly matched lovers the entire time. Jasper might have a bloodier past, but Alice was already a vampire and he never had to deal with the guilt of dragging her down to his level. Rose definitely has a more tragic story, but she never had to watch Emmett waiver on the edge of humanity, wanting him both to choose the healthier option while being terrified to lose him.

Feel free to enjoy the other couples more, all opinions are completely valid. That's not what I'm trying to say. I just don't agree with the argument that Edward and Bella are boring.

Honestly it was embarrassing enough having Twilight brainbugs in 2008 at the peak of the Cultural Phenomenon™. But to have them come back in the year 2025, when the damn Twilight Renaissance has already come and gone…. where are the other active Twilight blogs I need emotional support and fic recs in this trying time
