If you are not indigenous your local culture has had no more than a century or two to develop. Contrast that with Europe where cultures, national and regional, have been around for centuries or millennia. There are dozens of active separatist movements in Europe precisely because some regions of larger countries are so culturally divergent that people question why they should belong to a larger nation state

And prior to the 19th century practically nobody identified with their nation over their region. If you could ask an 18th century Swede to explain their identity they'd call themselves Dalecarlian, Scanian, Gotlander or what have you, not Swedish

Why am I expected to know the differences between Idaho and Illinois when you wouldn't bother with the greater differences between Scania and Småland, let alone when you suggest that the Scandinavian countries (and Finland because for some reason you believe that's Scandinavian) might as well be one state, something that only white nationalists here would support? I can't think of any argument as to why I should be an expert on the subregions of a country I do not live in that does not ultimately stem from cultural imperialism

Like, I *am* familiar with a lot of US regional differences purely because Americans expect the rest of the world to be self-taught experts on it. But it is ludicrous that I’m expected to be incredibly sensitive to the difference between how one town in Utah speaks compared to idk California. When many Americans wouldn’t care to know the cultural sensitivities of other countries. It’s so one sided and always catered to the USians. Never any thought to non Americans.

This is a real example, I once had an American tell me that I was ignorant to some specific detail about their state- and then they went on to confuse London for England and confuse England for the whole UK. Worse, one person decided it was okay to call me, a Welsh person, English, because Wales is near England. (Wales was the first place colonised by England, we’re not English- ych a fi!). 

Here is a map of some (absolutely by no means not all) independence movements in Europe. There’s Scotland that wants to break away from the UK, Flanders that wants to yeet from Belgium, Bavaria that wants to leave Germany, Spain has both the Basque Country and Catalonia with independence movements. Italy’s north-south divide has long had a inequality problem, and Corsica is owned by France but wants to get out. (This isn’t including other independence movements I know of, which include Wales from England, NI from UK and/or the reunification of Ireland, Kosovo apparently may join Albania). The list goes on. 

A lot of people have died in conflicts and clashes because of cultural fiction in these countries. The breakup of Yugoslavia was an absolute nightmare for it. 

All of this is in no way comparable to the minute cultural differences between two different towns in Vermont or some such. It’s probably more comparable to the *light and not world-ending* squabbles in some English counties over what word you call a bread roll.

i cannot BELIEVE the cops that shot and killed breonna taylor are getting away free while her boyfriend gets the blame. for acting in self defense of a perceived intruder. like a lot of gunowning americans would’ve done. this is such racist, dismissive bullshit

I’d love to talk about this. I live 15 miles from where Breonna was murdered by police. I will talk about this all day long. Yall want a refresher?? Here it is. I guess I’ll add a break, but you really need to read this and understand what happened and why you should be mad as hell.

• The officers only wanted a warrant for Breonna because of her ties to a known drug dealer. But she was never actually involved with anything to do with selling drugs. The warrant was obtained using false info that the LMPD detectives got from a Shively police officer. Nothing was done to verify it. A judge signed off on it.

• The police claimed they announced themselves before busting the door in, but 12 (TWELVE) witnesses who lived in the apartments claimed they didnt hear any of that. The only thing anyone heard was the door being busted in and then gunshots. One of those 12 witnesses barely spoke english and they continued calling this person in for questioning for months until this person FINALLY said that he thought he heard them announce themselves. They then said they have a witness claiming to have heard them announce themselves.

• Kenneth Walker only fired his gun because all he heard was banging at the door and then the door was busted in. And as previously mentioned there were numerous witnesses saying the cops did not announce themselves. Literally anyone who owns a gun would have done the same thing in Kenneth Walker’s situation.

• Then of course the actual shooting happened, there were two cops firing from the door way while a third cop started firing through the glass patio door that was covered by a shade. Breonna was killed in the hallway.

• After this was all said and done they had already arrested the drug dealer they were after. They were only trying to go after Breonna to strengthen their case. They could have simply called her in for questioning and had no reason to believe that she would have ran. And then we also learn that they had a phone call from the drug dealer saying that Breonna was holding money for him which is why they wanted her so bad. That would not have been enough evidence for the warrant, which is why they lied to get one.

• All of this info and tons more was in the leaked grand jury documents. It is incredible that anyone could look at these facts and say it was Kenneth Walkers fault that his girlfriend was killed by cops while he watched her die.

• police went to the postal inspector before getting the warrant, who told them she had nothing to do with it. They falsified his statement in the warrant application saying he actually did, and then threatened him to stay silent after they murdered Breonna.

• They also didn’t pursue medical assistance for her until 45 minutes had passed.

• Remember, LMPD narcotics cops had a problem where what got checked into the evidence room wasn't what they reported on scene, so they stopped having to report what they found on scene. They were 100% there to steal that money.

• During the emotional but peaceful protests, police killed a local BBQ restaurant owner, David McAtee and left his body laying in the street uncovered for hours.

• Cops showed up the PEACEFUL protests looking for violence, they threatened, taunted, tried their best to incite it. They abused peaceful protestors.

• Greg Fischer, who was mayor at the time, and Craig Greenburg, currently mayor have done fuck all to get control of the police department.

Louisville Metro Police Department is so incredibly crooked. If you call them up, they’re not coming. Forget it. “We don’t have enough officers to send one out.” But when one dies there’s a whole armada of them going down the highway.

They also just got a pay raise.

This doesn’t even cover the Kentucky state Police, who used actual Hitler quotes in their training material and it was kept quiet until a high school newspaper did some digging.

I could go on all day about this. All cops are bastards. That’s not just a cute little slogan. It’s not just a few rotten apples or poor training or unfortunate oversights. All policing is racist at its core. All cops are class traitors. I’ll talk about this all damn day.

Oh, while I’m at it, don’t forget that in the early 90s two studies were done that showed 40% of police families experienced domestic violence. Police no longer cooperate with such studies.

The people who say shit like "I don't dream about labour" when asked about their dream job make me sad. It's not their fault and it's an obvious conclusion to come to in the environment that we live in, but they really do seem to make no difference between work, and being exploited. You do want to work, it is inherent human nature to want to do things, you just don't want to slave for shit wages while making profit for someone else.

If art wasn't an option and I didn't have to worry about being profitable, I know what I would be doing: Keep a little shop selling secondhand-thirdhand buttons and buckles.

Thrift shops and secondhand stores could dump (or sell, whatever) their unsold and unwanted goods to me, and I could spend all day going through the heaps and picking them apart, plucking the still-perfectly-good buttons, zippers and buckles out of discarded things with threadbare fabrics and sell them.

Probably also making those little trinket storage boxes out of hollowed-out books. By hollowing out books that nobody wanted or read.
