Nocturn by William Ernest Henley
The thing is, do i even have to come up with an entire essay on disability and substance abuse? And the way they can be linked both as self treatment when nothing else ever worked but also as a forced inevitability of institutional treatment itself? It's both a way to escape and deal with constant pain as well as something enforced upon people in order for them to be "easier to deal with". Bloodborne i think is a Lot about substance abuse and the research hall very much ties into that with another aspect of it. Even disability and chronic pain and the medical institution aside, theres something to be said about relying on any kind of substance in order to "ascend" and receive visions, and the agony that comes with being deprived of it and being "sent back to [your] lesser years"
About Adeline's "selfishness" also, i call it that because i don't really know what word would fit better but anyway i think the most obvious way in which it shows through is the urgency in her voice when she says "yes, that's it, let me have it!" as well as the unconscious use of "Must" in "i must have it", i think it's something that is so genuine and life wrecking and comes from so deep that she cannot contain it anymore or be proper about it compared to everything else she says. It's too much to feel and hold

Honestly gonna go here but... i dunno about you but I've been not liking the direction fromsoft has been taking with announced releases but also like. elden ring dlc. it's not looking good out here honestly. like i do want for them to experiment with their games and all but.. i dunno it feels like scholar of the first sin fiasco all over again
yeah i mean i'm always The Complainer all the time and whatnot but I genuinely am a bit worried about the direction they're heading? i don't really feel theres anything wrong with the ER dlc inherently, it's moreso issues with the state of the game industry as a whole and fromsoft has no hand in that as well as, they've always been doing big dlc. every soulsborne game has had big important dlc. ds3 is in my opinion the one you can truly criticize for its dlc but that was entirely Because sony pushed them to make 2 separate ones as a selling strategy (iirc) so it wasn't their initial vision either. ER dlc is the same (even bigger) and my main issue with it is the price but to be fair that's also not a dlc thing, it kinda unfortunately makes sense for games to be pricing dlc higher when the base game itself is like 70$. it's moreso an issue with the insane inflation in recent years. but aside from that like... mostly what i mean by "direction" is kinda just nightreign and this, the thing is nightreign isnt inherently a terrible thing like from what i remember it's the pet project of another dev who wanted to try his hand at making it, and that's honestly cute! that's cute that they let him do that! the issue comes from the marketing of it and the whole "werent those games you love so great? look we put them all in this game! dont you like it? dont you?" thing as well as the way it's recieved. i think fromsoft might be getting stuck in a loop that they have been in since forever which is, people now just want them to make more souls games, and every time they try to do something else people don't follow as much or complain that it's not souls, and that turns into companies like sony etc pressuring them into making stuff that they know is gonna sell (souls games). it's literally what happened with ds3, ds3 was not supposed to exist, it was only made Because they had so many expectations put on them. and i think its fine that nightreign exists as the nostalgia fanservice no substance game, but the fact that theyre not only making another one, but it's also 1- a new console exclusive and 2- heavily banking on the one game that people have been asking for, is honestly kinda... not exactly suspicious but like, i can see the direction it's going and i dont like it. i dont want fromsoft to become a fanservice appealing "oh look dont you like these guys" type of developper. i want them to do what they actually want to be doing if money and getting sales wasnt an issue. i think it's so awesome that they worked on a new AC game recently and it sucks how much the public just did not care aside from a niche. gamers know one game and they now expect every game to come from a dev to be that game. i don't like how bloodborne fan is equated to "wants bloodborne 2 so bad" and how every meme is abt bb fans wanting a 2. i've never wanted one like at any point in my life in fact ive always badly prayed that we never get a sequel because it doesnt need one, it's a self contained standalone game and if we ever got a sequel it would be forced by expectations like ds3 did. and i say that as a huge huge fan of ds3 i looooove ds3. but i still think that in a better world thats kinder towards devs and not stuck in the eternal capitalist cycles of the gaming industry, it should not exist. if my issue with nightrein and duskblood was purely about the fact that theyre no substance, gameplay games, that'd be whatever and entirely personal which is why i just try not to care much. however im mostly worried about what it means for them as devs if they're really well recieved and people fall for the fanservice appealing in mass.
I really really genuinely hope the next big main team fromsoft title is not a souls like whatsoever i really hope they get to finally let go soon. Please let there not be an er2 like there was a ds3. Please let them do whatever they want and still support them even if its not souls. Go play ac6 or something at the very Least
I wish i could just like ignore it and feel whatever abt it and move on however the issue is that from fans at large will not and the whole internet is gonna be so fucking annoying for like a month about "bborne 2!!" and when the game comes out everyones gonna try to make bb lore connections constantly and i dont wanna have to hear it. Sad
To be fair i only saw the trailer and nothing else idk what other info we have. But this is nightreign 2 to me this is not anything
Which, TO BE FAIR its just personal taste that i dont like or care for nightreign. I think its cool that it exists because its cute that they let the devs try things out and its cool that it exists for the people who actually want it. Unfortunately i am a serious lore only guy whos extremely picky and hates stuff like that. So like dont take my word for is it good or bad
Idk about the dev team behind it idk if it was revealed yet but honestly did fromsoft start making separate dev teams for real for real? Cause this is a nightreign to me this does nooooot feel like a mainline/ A team game at alllll i refuse to believe that. Also its a fucking switch 2 exclusive. The switch? Are you serious rn
