can you imagine the times after a hunt, when both boys are back at the hotel, they just talk. they talk about life. they are drinking together, exchanging looks. maybe even their knees brushing against each other, under the hotel table. they are comfortable, they feel safe. shared moments like this make their lives bearable. they wont say it to each other, but they know, deep down, how much they love the small moments like this together. its just them against the world.

i will stand by the fact that sam's first death must've been traumatic for dean in ways that changed him completely and he never fully recovered from the shock of it and it dictated all and every action/decision that he took from then on regarding sam and keeping him safe.
