im no stranger to liking characters that are controversial or widely disliked + mischaracterized but man it's wild how hesitant i am to post about gale just casually without preparing myself for the "i hate gale because he has feelings" brigade to show up

in many respects the way people talk about love on here (namely the enforced dichotomy between romantic ‘versus’ platonic love as two oppositional and mutually exclusive types of affection) is deeply alienating because these discussions almost never incorporate a rejection of the nuclear family as the measuring stick by which all love is judged. I think this supposed romantic/platonic dichotomy collapses once you reject the idea that the only two types of loving relationships you can have in life are either “like family” or “someone I would marry”

Endwalker Week - Venat

All is excruciating pain. I breathe fire and torment. I birth a world of suffering to mire and plague. In one fleeting moment, lives come and go. Ever moving towards the unknown. And in that fleeting moment, they cry for the answer to the question:

Why, given life, are they meant to suffer? To die?

As fragmented, imperfect beings, yours is a never-ending quest. A quest to find your purpose, knowing your end is assured. To find the strength to continue, when all strength has left you. To find joy, even as darkness descends. And amidst deepest despair, light everlasting.

the problem of fandom reducing characters who are women and/or people of colour to sexist/racist stereotypes is definitely aggravated by the fact that a lot of fans simply do not pay very much attention to these characters in the first place then subconsciously paper over the gaps in their perception with things they’ve been culturally conditioned to believe are true about people in the same category as said character

many cases where you’ll see someone say something about a character and it’s like hmm i don’t think that idea is supported anywhere in canon but i can tell exactly which stereotype you got it from

my favourite thing about ffxiv fandom is that every patch cycle there comes this whole wave of blorbo poisoning and everyone's wols just roll helplessly along in the tide like pebbles as people latch onto a new funny little guy (gn) and use their wol as a crowbar to pry the unfortunate blorbo open

the Dancing Green phenomenon is so far the best and funniest version of this

neil gaiman is seeking $500,000 from the person accusing him of rape because she broke an NDA. i hope that man dies in excruciating agony.

death of the artist could go further
