It was a difficult year for a number of our fandom friends, leading to a couple of last minute schedule changes and pinch-hit assignments that brought our total number of participants to just 25 authors and 24 artists -- but even with those unexpected changes, 26 teams gifted the Dean/Cas fandom an impressive 787,104 words of pine-filled fic, and 83 gorgeous works of art.
As always, the wealth of creative talent we've been blessed with in this fandom has blown us away, and it's especially wonderful to see the love for our favorite hunter and angel going strong after all this time.
Speaking of which... we’re not done yet!
If you're thinking that seems earlier than we usually open for business, you'd be right. Because this will be our TENTH(!) round, we're planning some extra fun. We'll share details closer to registration time, but we hope you'll all take part!

Summary: Dean has been quietly pining after his neighbor Cas for years, but as a vampire, he can’t exactly make friends with mortals — let alone date them. He’s pretty much resigned himself to admiring Cas from a distance.
Everything changes the day Dean falls off a ladder during some routine home maintenance and breaks his leg. Cas is the one who finds him, and he insists on taking care of Dean after he gets home from the hospital — never mind the fact that by the time Dean’s home, his leg is all healed.
Cas, obviously, can never know.
Castiel has admired his neighbor Dean for years. Unfortunately, being a witch, it would be unwise for him to pursue a relationship with a mortal. Still, when Dean is injured in a fall, he can’t help wanting to take care of the object of his affections.
If only he could tell Dean the truth.

Missed moments. Alternate universes. All of them have one thing in common: Dean. Lovely, beautiful Dean Winchester, loving him back in every possible way. Yet, every morning, it feels as if nothing has happened. Everything is back to normal — or is it?

As the bucket beneath Dean’s feet is kicked away and the noose tightens around his neck, it's over. Or it should be. While Dean fights for his death, a shot sounds, and a mysterious stranger grips him tight and saves him from certain death. Blowing out the lights that kept him going. An eternity of fathomless torment. Endless. Infinite. Vast. Until it wasn’t anymore. Until it stopped. Dean soared as his weight was lifted from him. Two hands gripped him tight, carrying his earthly form for him. Allowing him to rest. Allowing him to let go. A being of light was staring at him. Guiding him. The pain remained, but it was over. When his feet touched the ground, wood splintered and another shot cut through the night. Dean crashed to the ground, hitting it hard, and everything went dark. He groaned as he slowly came back to himself. Something pricked his back, but that was only a slight discomfort compared to the rest of his body. Shouldn’t Heaven be more comfortable than this? Dean coughed, and nearly fainted again. Only Hell could be worse. But he had been there, hadn’t he? He had already gone through it, and landed here. Wherever *here* was. It could still be Hell, though, or maybe Purgatory. Everything was hurting. He was trapped in a nightmare, unable to move without unspeakable agony shooting through his body. His lids felt like they weighed tons and tons. Yet, if he wanted to wake, he just needed to open his eyes— He couldn’t. They were already open, staring into endless darkness. Son of a bitch! He was so fucked. He was… What? Dying? Dead? A ghost, haunting the Earth till the end of time? Whatever he was, he was alone. In the desert. Unable to even lift his arm, or his little finger. Each breath was agony, but there was air filling his lungs. Slowly but steadily, his mind cleared. Dean tensed as a branch snapped behind him. Clouds of smoke drifted through the air. He heard a fire sizzling. The rustling of a coat. Alarmed, he sat up. Tears filled his eyes as a sharp pang shot through his shoulder and a pop sounded through the night. A piercing cry escaped his lips, only increasing his agony. His panic was back in full force. Even without the noose around his neck, breathing became impossible while the steps approached, closer and closer. Coming to take him.

Ever since his father’s death, Castiel has been lonely. His job can only fill so many of his hours, but his attempts at dating have been unsuccessful.
A bright spot in his day is the tall stranger who shares his train platform during the morning commute. If Castiel could find someone as handsome and apparently successful as this man to share his life with, he’s sure his loneliness would be a thing of the past.
One day, the stranger falls onto the train tracks during a robbery gone wrong and Castiel saves his life. With the man — Sam — lingering in a coma, Castiel quickly finds himself adopted into the raucous, cheerful circle of Sam’s family. There’s just one problem: as the result of a misunderstanding, Sam’s family believes that Castiel is Sam’s boyfriend.
The situation only gets worse when Castiel finds himself falling fast and hard for Sam’s older brother Dean. Will Castiel ever be able to tell Dean and his family the truth? And if he does, will they still want him in their lives?

My art masterpost for When You Least Expect It by @friendofcarlotta for the @deancaspinefest. It's an amazing fic that's based on While You Were Sleeping and I highly recommend it. This was our third collab in a row and, once again, I loved creating art for it. There were so many scenes I would have loved to draw, but given the little time I had left in the end, I ended up with a style that I hadn't tried before. At first, I hadn't even planned to do a banner, but then I got the idea with the character sketches and I loved doing them. All character sketches can be found as separate pieces on AO3. It's so exciting to get to share these pieces at last, a project that's been in the works for quite a few months now!
When @friendofcarlotta and I were first brainstorming the @destielaureversebb, this wasn't the first idea I had in mind for it (that is still on the backburner for some future bang...maybe the next round of this one?), but it was the one that took hold of my brain and I just couldn't let it go.

I was once again inspired by a photographic work by Wilhelm von Gloeden, Due uomini nudi di spalle. It immediately spoke to me as "Cas and Dean!" and a prompt idea came to me of a fallen Cas in Hell, either saved by Dean...or perhaps they remained damned together? The rocky beach of the original photo became hellfire and lava and I had fun working with an extremely limited palette of opaque watercolor/gouache to get the unique look. I used the same colors for the story banner, with more emphasis on the yellow.
seidenapfel took my general ideas and wrote a wonderful story to go with them. It'll really take you on a ride of emotions, and for my second main piece I wanted to try to capture a moment where flashes/glimpses/memories come to Cas and...well, it turned into a massive project that is basically 7 individual paintings on one 20" by 16" piece of watercolor block :)

Look at this amazing collage Hawk created for my fic, and, of course, at the beautiful banner and the piece that spiked my interest just when I saw it the first time. It's the main reason this story came together. I'm still blown away by all three pieces.
