If you use wheelchair users as an example of the default "person who gets automatically accommodated and treated with empathy and respect" then I'm going to hunt you for sport.

A lot of wheelchair users end up needing to make a whole new group of friends when they start using wheelchairs because suddenly you're viewed as captain buzzkill when you don't want to be carried up and down the stairs by people you KNOW don't lift.

Here’s a thing that happened to one of my friends. I was there.

Basically, we were walking down the sidewalk, talking about something meaningless. I think it had to do with a movie. Then this bus screeches up, stops next to us, and a bunch of people with “Down with Cis” shirts climbed out and started beating him up. I was punched and kicked a bit too, but I managed to avoid brutalization by going for their faces. After figuring out what’s happening, I started attacking them back, getting them off of him. He was quite injured but I called 911 and he made a full recovery at the hospital. I was fine, with only a cut on my arm that they patched up.

Listen, folks, I also hate generative AI and do not think it is an effective accomodation, but if your argument against it is "Oh, you think [task] is hard? What a stupid idiot baby!" then I'm sorry to say that is Literally Just Ableism. Please think about what you are saying. The point should be that it doesn't actually work to solve the problems that people are struggling with, not that they're wrong for struggling in the first place.

Multiple people in the notes proudly saying "I'm only ableist to people I assume aren't disabled!" Wild thought: what if you just didn't say ableist things to anyone?

idk why but i feel like being a punk is for he/hims and doing ballet is for she/hers

the US education system isn't even that bad. many countries have objectively worse-funded education systems, but don't display the same belligerent idiocy as them. the fundamental issue is that USAmericans have no real reason to care about the rest of the world, as it will never meaningfully affect their lives unless they decide to go on vacation or take part in an invasion. their lack of intellectual curiosity is because the rest of the world never really registers as a real place.

love the notes on this. 'oh actually our education system is really underfunded' that's very unique of you. no other country is like that. i know people who are not legally allowed to attend higher education because of their gender who demonstrate more intellectual curiosity about the world than you. 'actually we're all struggling and just trying to survive so theres no time to care about the world' no you're right the USA is the poorest country on earth after all. would sort of break the argument if people from much more impoverished countries showed significantly more interest in learning about the outside world than usamericans do. almost like people everywhere suffer from lack of access to education but the imperial core uniquely generates people who have no material reason to care, specifically because of their privilege even in poverty. 'um actually most of us can't afford a vacation overseas' so, again, since you're not going to be invaded, and your government isn't at the international financial gunpoint of a foreign empire, you will literally never be affected by other countries.

you tell a usamerican that the people they bomb, invade, coup, and sanction have it worse than they do and they start sobbing and crying about how they're actually the least privileged people on the planet, because they don't have [social welfare that western europe has] because, again, they don't see the rest of the world, outside the west, as a real place.

okay so it's not an education problem it's a character flaw in 350 million people???? from my pov, ur not making a point about the global problems cause by USA imperialism, ur too caught up in calling americans stupid

She very specifically said that it's because the unique situation of the U.S. as a global imperialistic hegemony creates material conditions where americans don't have a material incentive to care about what happens in the rest of the world because it will never affect their lives, while people in the third world have a material incentive to care what goes on in the rest of the world because we are almost universally at the mercy of foreign powers, especially the US. She did say so several times.

If your reading of that is "this is not an issue of education quality it's a character flaw that all americans happen to have just because" and not "this is not an issue of education quality it's an issue of how the U.S.'s hegemonic place in global culture and politics creates citizens with no material reason to care about the rest of the world" I think you're pretending to be stupid on purpose.

the thing is that being fat - much like being transgender and being autistic - is awesome right up until the moment you have to exist in a society that doesn't particularly want you to be there
