There is a Muslim revert on TikTok who is getting exposed for lying about their ethnic identity while also using their religious identity to speak over Palestinians who disagreed with them and I am honestly so sick and tired of seeing people get away with talking over Palestinians just because they happen to be Muslim.
There is a false notion that just because someone is Muslim they have some inherent knowledge about Palestine and are somehow adjacent to us even though Palestinians don't all share the same faith.
*It is erasure*. It's how we get to places where grifters like Shaun King and Khaled Beydoun are making money off of Palestinian suffering for their Eid events or taking credit for the decades of work Palestinians have done. It's how we get to replacing "Palestinians" with "Muslims" in media, how Muslim Zionists use their religion to support the genocide of Palestinians, or how Palestinians of other faiths get pushed to the side within their own movement.
I still remember back in 2021 seeing people who were Muslim using Palestinians being beaten and lynched in the streets to share their own Paypals and GFMs because it was "so painful for them to watch". Literally posts saying "If you're Muslim drop your payment info so we can support you better" in the face of Palestinian mass murder.
It's obvious that islamophobia plays a role in the demonization and killing of Palestinians but being Muslim doesn't make you entitled to a position over Palestinian voices and experiences, and it's completely ignorant to act like the root of this genocide is religion and not colonialism and imperialism. "as a Muslim-" doesn't matter when its Palestinians being murdered and bombed to death for being Palestinian.
i remember something when king converted and pushed his bullshit cashgrabs, that said something to the effect of "well if palestinian resiliency brings people to islam and Allah then that's good, and im glad he converted" as if the only thing preventing more people from converting was showing more images of palestinian suffering, and as if that was the primary purpose of what was being shown.
left a real bad taste in my mouth
having one of those days again
To fully understand what's going on here, we need to go into a bit of background information.
First of all: what are gravitational waves? gravitational waves are often called 'ripples' in spacetime, often caused by extremely energetic processes such as black holes colliding, or two neutron stars orbiting each other closely.
So, how did scientists figure this out? They used 67 pulsars (known as the Pulsar Timing Array) throughout the Milky Way, practically creating a galaxy-sized telescope in order to study this.
Pulsars are the extremely dense cores of massive stars, left over after they go supernova. These are fascinating on their own, but for this project, they had an essential feature: Pulsars rapidly rotate (think up to hundreds of rotations per second), spewing radiation out in pulses from their magnetic poles. For some pulsars, these radiation jets cross Earth's line of sight, and we get incredibly constant bursts of radio signals, which can be catalogued and used as a sort of standard, universal clock.
Here is a link to a gif showing the rotation of a pulsar. Please be warned for flashing and eyestrain.
For 15 years, a team of astronomers working for the North American Nanohertz Observatory for Gravitational Waves (NANOGrav), used radio telescopes around the globe to track minuscule changes in the signal patterns from pulsars. The changes they found are due to the slight movement of spacetime between us and the pulsars, stretching and compressing the paths of their radio waves as extremely low frequency gravitational waves pass through the universe (yes, that includes you. your atoms, as well as the atoms making up everything around you, are very slowly shifting position, dancing along to the heartbeat of the universe).
At the moment, scientists are still debating what could have caused this gravitational wave background, but some there are some leading theories: the GWB could be caused by trillions of binary black hole systems (black holes orbiting each other) throughout the universe. It could also be due to cosmic inflation, or even the big bang itself. Scientists just don't know yet, but the opportunities this discovery opens up are incredible.
The knowledge of the GWB could help us better understand the formation of early galaxies, or even help us understand the origin of the universe.

Welcome back,
It is a sad fact of life that everything must come to an end, and the universe is no exception. Based on our current understanding of physics, we have a few good guesses as to what might occur. The universe could cool down to the point where nothing can survive, or it might suddenly collapse in on itself. However, none of these hypothetical ends are as mind bending as vacuum decay.
In this unsettling scenario, a bubble pops into existence somewhere in the universe. Inside the bubble, the laws of physics are wildly different than they are outside the bubble. The bubble expands at the speed of light, eventually taking over the entire universe. Galaxies drift apart, atoms can’t hold themselves together, and the ways that particles interact are fundamentally changed. Whatever form the universe takes after this event certainly wouldn’t be hospitable for humans.
To understand vacuum decay, first we need to understand the vacuum state. For most of us, a vacuum refers to outer space and other places devoid of matter. However, outer space is not really empty. Instead, it contains fluctuating quantum fields that produce the particles responsible for the fundamental laws of physics throughout our universe.
When this space has as little energy as possible, it’s referred to as being in its vacuum state. No matter what, though, those quantum fields are still doing their work holding the fabric of reality together.
We know about 17 particles that come about when these quantum fields are excited, which is just the fun way that physicists refer to a quantum field that has received energy. The photon is an example of one such particle, which we perceive as light and is responsible for electromagnetic radiation like X-rays and microwaves as well.
There are also quarks, which become the protons and neutrons in our atoms. Other particles make different forces, like the strong and weak nuclear force, which ultimately provide the rules for how our universe works.
When the underlying quantum fields that make these particles are in their vacuum states, the universe is stable. By definition, a vacuum state can’t lose any energy — if it could, then the way the fundamental particles work could change as well, meaning our universe could stop working the way it does.
Most of the quantum fields appear to be in their vacuum states, so they are stable, and we are safe. However, measuring these things is very, very difficult, and its possible that one quantum field has yet to reach its vacuum state: the Higgs field.
The Higgs field and its associated Higgs boson are responsible for why things have mass at all. It’s why photons have no mass and why Z bosons have quite a bit of mass (for a quantum particle, at least). As such, it’s very important for how fundamental particles interact with each other.
It’s possible that the Higgs field has become “stuck” at a certain level of energy. Think of it like rolling a ball down a hill — all other fields have “rolled” to the bottom of the hill, but the Higgs field may be stuck in a small valley along the side of the hill, preventing it from reaching the bottom.
If the lowest possible amount of energy a field can have is called the vacuum state, this valley can be considered to be a false vacuum; it seems stable, but it’s actually got more energy than where the Higgs field wants to be.
What could cause the Higgs field to get stuck like this involves quite a bit of math — for the purposes of this article, the important thing to know is that physicists believe it is possible that the Higgs field may have further to go before it can reach its vacuum state.
The problem is, our universe relies on the Higgs field’s properties at its current state. What could push the Higgs field out of its valley? It would most likely take a tremendous amount of energy to do so.
But it could also happen because of a weird effect in the quantum world called quantum tunneling.
Since quantum particles behave like waves, they can potentially pass through a barrier, rather than over it. Think of this like tunneling through the valley wall that’s holding the Higgs field in place.
I have an unpopular opinion: “finding Gods in mundane things can be healing to one’s psyche” and “thinking absolutely everything is Divine influence is a deeply hurtful idea that can lead to unhealthy ideations and a lot of anxiety” are statements that can coexist.
It’s sort of like with magic. Yes there’s magic in everyday things. No, thinking everything is a result of magic isn’t healthy.
Additionally, this line of thinking can trigger psychosis for those of us who experience it. How do I know this? Because it happened to me and is a risk I always run if I get ‘in too deep’.
Yes, the divine is all around us, often in surprising or awe-inspiring ways. Some people even take a very animist approach to the divine, which is absolutely valid as a belief system.
However, thinking that the divine is constantly communicating with us and are involved in the minutiae of our lives without us asking (which can be part of the belief that the gods have a heavily detailed plan for us, but not always), can be a slippery slope.
I used to think I could hear the gods in my mind. I used to think that whenever I saw crows it was a message from Apollon. I used to think the gods were causing things to happen in my life because they had grand things planned for me. I used to even sometimes think I was a ‘chosen one’. You see how this is basically taking some of the above lines of thinking above and beyond? It was a very troubling time because these were very deep delusions.
It’s why I eventually had to take a long break from anything spiritual, and why I did so again recently. It’s why I have to check every single thought I have about these things with a fine tooth comb.
Yes, the gods will be involved in your life and sometimes communicate with you. But there are risks if we think they are doing that everywhere all of the time.
For the love of the gods, please, please, please use discernment.
