It’s so interesting how heavily gendered baby clothes are an extremely modern phenomenon like even in the midcentury period baby clothes were often the same cut and color for baby boys and baby girls but now you can’t put your son in a pink romper and you have to use baby glue to affix a flower to your daughter’s head so everyone knows she’s a little girl.

On November 7, 2024, Denmark used a racist, culturally biased "parenting competency" test to remove a 2 hour old baby, Zammi, from her loving indigenous Greenlandic Inuit mother, Keira, because her native language, which uses minute facial expressions to communicate, will not be able to "[prepare] the child for the social expectations and codes that are necessary to navigate in Danish society." This test had been recommended not to be used at the federal level before this happened but certain municipalities, including the one this happened in, chose to continue to use it regardless. Not only is this blatantly racist but also violates multiple declarations and conventions that Denmark has signed that protect the rights of indigenous people.

Some opinions of mine, idk the best way to describe it but I guess a darker skinned Mizrak with blue eyes is how I’ve alway envisioned a more realistic Steve to look like. Especially ever since Alex was added into Minecraft, it’s clear Steve is probably meant to be brown or super tan, so I have no idea why others keep on portraying him as so pale.

There’s also the way how freakish a lot of the animated characters look in the movie, having highly detailed and realistic textures while still retaining a blocky shape. As a whole it would’ve been so much better if they fully animated it and made the characters more stylized to actually fit, and if they can’t do that then maybe don’t stick with block shapes at all, I don’t know. I want to draw some ideas I have for this and hopefully better show what I mean once I finish other stuff.
