Fuck twitter I’m returning to my roots
That guy from dogtok & also Roblox
Absolutely full of autism there’s no escaping the autism

what do you mean elon musk did a nazi salute on live tv at the united states presidential inauguration twice and is now erasing the evidence off the internet by replacing the footage with the crowd cheering instead?

would be a shame if people reblogged this, wouldn’t it?

Certainly an example of where this administration is probably going huh?

In case anyone needs a helpful demographic:

Just so yall know, these ads usually come from puppy mills.

Remember that puppy mills are determined based on quantity of litters produced and their USDA licensing, NOT by how clean or well cared for the dogs are. There are plenty of Polished Mills that use guardian homes to hide the fact they’re a mill (if you need an example, look up Utahdoodles on TikTok or instagram)

I mean there are plenty of reasons to keep your cats indoors.

For one thing, they're nearly guaranteed to live longer. No longer at risk of outside diseases. They're not a threat to wildlife, and wildlife (and many other things) are not a threat to them. She won't get lost. You won't have to worry about adding to the population of kittens, which often grow up in the wild and make more issues. Not to mention shelter kittens tend to be chosen over perfectly adoptable adult cats who have been there longer. And this one is kinda selfish, but she's your cat, right? Do you want her to become someone else's cat?

"He only catches a few birds now and then!" Unless he is a phenomenally bad hunter I can pretty much guarantee he doesn't. If you've seen him kill animals, he is not a phenomenally bad hunter.

"He needs space to roam!" Cats make good apartment pets, even the active ones. You can always leash train him or make him a cat tree or a little cat jungle to play in.

"She's spayed!" That's great! Many cats aren't. Also doesn't make her immune to things that can hurt her.

"It's cruel to confine them indoors!" Might be a bad example since my last cat was a cuddle bug who existed to be loved, but I assure you, your domesticated pet is going to be fine.

"What if they're mousers?" Well, I kinda see the logic in this one but you can't teach a cat to only hunt vermin. They can still get diseases, including diseases that can affect farm animals. And tbh it's dangerous to let a cat fight a rat.

The mouser one always gets me too because

Rodents are smarter than you think they are. They can and WILL memorize your cats daily routine and rebuild their little mouse society in the barn once they know what times it’s safe to go out

Ratting terriers and falconries are much more effective at keeping mouse/rat populations down and don’t come with the added risks that mousing cats face

There ARE safe ways for cats to experience the outdoors. Catios, leashed walks, covered strollers, collapsible mesh outdoor play pens, etc. free roaming is not one of those safe ways

All it takes is one time and the cat could get severely hurt or end up dying. My aunts cat escaped two times and was poisoned with antifreeze the second time

He now has permanent brain damage. He was lucky to survive.

“Kill shelters” are the shelters you need to donate to.

“But shrimp!! Kill shelters are evil!!”

No, shut up, listen to me for a second.

“Kill shelter” is a colloquial term used primarily for Town/City (aka municipal) shelters that rely on incredibly limited government grant funding to operate.

These shelters, by the very nature of their existence, DO NOT HAVE the funds to operate like private rescues do.

On top of this, they’re also *legally required* to take in ANY animal that comes to them. Even if they’re full. Or they’ll lose all of their funding.

This is what leads them to needing to euthanize for space. Is euthanizing for space sad? Yes. But due to the current crisis, it’s also NECESSARY.

These shelters are constantly overfull. They’re STRUGGLING. They don’t have the funds to operate properly. And yet these municipal, government funded, struggling shelters are the same ones that are most likely to be providing care for owned animals in the community

Municipal (“kill”) shelters are the ones hosting low cost spay and neuter clinics. They’re the ones discounting vaccination appointments and microchipping. They’re the ones that have pet food banks so struggling pet owners can feed their pets that week.

These shelters are not evil. They’re doing the absolute best they can with the bare minimum funding they get.

These people are incredibly resourceful and care very deeply about the animals in their care. It breaks their heart every time they have to euthanize an animal that couldn’t get adopted.

These underfunded shelters need your money significantly more than that fancy private rescue you see on TikTok or instagram that has a beautiful facility and has never had to euthanize an animal ever.

Support your local shelters and they will give back to the community thousand fold.

Sincerely, an animal welfare student who’s tired of seeing the hardest working professionals shat on because of circumstances they can’t control.

YES THANK YOU THIS NEEDS TO BE SAID TOO.

The “save them all!” Mentality is absolutely not feasible. Not every animal can or SHOULD be saved and that’s ok.

Keeping an animal in a little shelter kennel for its entire life or so drugged up it can’t recognize where it is isn’t a solution to anything. It’s CRUEL.

Sometimes we need to just let them go. If life is so stressful they cannot handle existing without heavy medication or 24/7 facility management, it’s not a life worth living.

Also, behavioral euthanasia is a good thing. Quit demonizing that too
