HEY, FELLOW HATERS OF INSANELY-BRIGHT CAR HEADLIGHTS, SOMEONE HAS STARTED A PETITION TO REGULATE THEM.

It's an official petition through the Australian Government's e-petition page, which means if it gets enough signatures, it will be tabled in government.

You do have to be an Australian citizen to sign it, BUT!!! PLEASE REBLOG THIS EVEN IF YOURE NOT, because these kind of things have a roll-on effect, and if Australia legislates LED headlights, then other countries may follow.

FYI, the petition asks only for your name and email, and once you've clicked the sign button, they'll send you an email to confirm your signature --- you need to click the confirmation link in the email to have your signature counted.

I am close friends with the Al-Habil family, whose situation I have discussed under our β€œ#ibtisam al habil” tag. There is still a lot of concern for the youngest child Nour, who is a disabled teen about whose situation you can learn more under our β€œ#Nour Al habil” tag.

Torrential rains have flooded the streets of Gaza and all but destroyed the family’s tent. They are inundated with freezing, extremely contaminated water, which is extremely dangerous for 15 y/o Nour.

Nour is immunocompromised due to her heart condition. These flood waters carry gangrene, cholera, and polio bacteria among numerous others, as well as many viruses and pollutants.

We were about halfway through raising the funds for the tent when Nour’s mother, Ibtisam, suffered a herniated disc after sustaining an injury while moving a barrel of water. She is in severe pain, and can barely move. This is not only miserable and unhealthy for her, it also prevents her from caring for Nour.

In addition to the ongoing $2,000 USD needed for shelter, the family now needs $300 USD (about $433 CAD) to help Ibtisam manage her pain and be able to move.

New temporary goal: $52,971 CAD

Currently: $50,804 CAD

Need to raise: $2,167 CAD (about $1,500 USD)

There's an EU initiative going on right now that essentially boils down to wanting to force videogame publishers with paid games and/or games with paid elements such as DLC, expansions and microtransactions to leave said games in a playable state after they end support, or in simpler terms, make them stop killing games.

A "playable state" would be something like an offline mode for previously always online titles, or the ability for people to host their own servers where reasonably possible just to name some examples.

I don't think I need to tell anyone that having something you paid for being taken from you is bad, which is a thing that routinely happens with live service and other always online games with a notable recent example being The Crew which is now permanently unplayable.

Any EU citizen is eligible to sign the initiative, but only once and if you mess up that's it. You can find it here. (https://citizens-initiative.europa.eu/initiatives/details/2024/000007_en)

Even if you're not European or you signed it already, you can share this initiative with anyone who is, even if they don't care about videogames specifically because this needs a million signatures and there is different thresholds that need to be met for each EU country for their votes to even count and could also be a precedent for other similar practices like when Sony removed a bunch of Discovery TV content people paid for.

SUPPORT BELOW 50% OF THE THRESHOLD IN THESE COUNTRIES:

Bulgaria - 35% Croatia - 45% Cyprus - 12% (!!!!) Czechia - 47% Greece - 27% Italy - 41% Latvia - 43% Luxembourg - 20% Malta - 11% (!!!!) Romania - 48% Slovakia - 47% Slovenia - 38%

SEVEN countries out of 27 have met the threshold so far. Deadline is 31st July, 2025.

trying very hard to talk about ambiguously sickly anime boys without bringing up the enigma that was 2016's tanaka kun is always listless

the whole gimmick of the show is that he always wants to lie down. there are multiple gags about him wishing he had a cane or using a shopping cart like a rollator. oota has to carry him around because he doesn't have enough energy to get where he needs to go. it's a queerbait comedy where we're supposed to not think too hard about this and instead focus on the romance

thesis: mihashi ren is not canonically autistic, but he is canonically disabled

preface this by saying i'm autistic and chronically ill do not try me

starting this off by talking about natsume yuujinchou, specifically the character tanuma kaname. tanuma is frequently referred to as "sickly" and "frail." all his classmates identify him as "the guy who's always out sick" and his dad got him a specialty bed because he spends so much time there. he doesn't have any kind of canonical diagnosis. however, he's meant to be read as disabled, and if a real person you knew were in that situation, without ever knowing what exactly he had, you'd say he was chronically ill/disabled.

ok now mihashi is not canonically autistic. autism/jiheishou is never brought up as an explanation for what's "wrong" with mihashi. but canonically, he often is completely unable to speak, and when he can speak, he speaks in halting single words. he needs his teammates to "translate" for him. he fidgets and hums to himself almost constantly. he's very gullible, and often misunderstands what other people say to him. his singular focus on pitching to the exclusion of all else is commented on both as a strength and as something detrimental to his overall wellbeing. he struggles to read kanji, and has terrible grades. later in the manga, his mom has a conversation with his dad about how, despite all this, he's a sixteen year old boy and his dad should try to think of him more like a teenager, rather than a child. he's not meant to be read as typically developing.

if you knew someone like this irl, you would immediately clock them as some kind of neurodivergent. and higuchi is a good enough character writer, and has written canonically disabled characters (discussed as disabled!) in both yuku tokoro and yasashii watashi.

regardless of whether it's autism or something else (i know some ppl with selective mutism and intellectual disability relate to him too (and the lines between different categories of neurodivergent are pretty much socially constructed)), we're supposed to see mihashi as struggling socially and experiencing bullying because he is specifically vulnerable in this way. mihashi is supposed to be read as mentally disabled.

For those of you that may have just finished watching Cory Booker’s record-breaking senate speech and are inspired to β€œget in good trouble”, you have a great opportunity for it this Saturday!

On April 5th, numerous advocacy groups are banding together into one nation-wide rally that will be held in major cities all over the country - you can easily find a participating location here!

I’ll be volunteering as a safety captain at my own local rally, and I encourage all of you to go out there too and get in some good trouble as well!

for the record when I say a lot of major cities I mean a LOT of major cities :P

Oh heck yeah. Artist I rlly like finally posted a song I've been listening to on repeat on spotify. Oh boy I'm gonna be looping this one
