Hi I’m Lull, aroace they/them

Hello there!

This blog is multifandom but the main fandoms are:

MXTX novels
The Locked Tomb series
The Magnus Archives/The Magnus Protocol podcast

I am making this blog more aspec focused (canon or no), and a safe space for sex positive! but sex repulsed aces like me :)

The scenes at the refuge school with Hot Sauce's gang are some of my favorite parts of Nona the Ninth. They are kind of the entire point of the book to me. We spend the book slowly learning what John did and simultaneously seeing the result. These children, who have been displaced for most of all of their short lives, trying their best to live and play and grow up while multiple existential threats bear down on them. Their lives are the cost of John's endless spiteful expansion. Them and billions of other children growing up hungry and traumatized. It's a cost John has never had to see. However much he might think he understands the consequences John has never sat with a girl covered in burn scars or offered a homeless 12 year old a turpentine soaked rag because he might be able to sell it, or watched a boy walk away knowing his entire family was likely going to die fighting for a freedom that might never come. But Nona has, and she loved them and was loved by them. And now at least some part of Alecto remembers those children and I don't know exactly what that's going to mean but I know it will mean something.

I loved them because you can really tell Tamsyn has been a teacher. Those scenes felt so true to life.

Also, I've frequently described NtN as “imagine Yotsuba! but set in war-torn Afghanistan”. It's a book that would be nothing without the slice-of-life component. I'm glad the fandom has grown to appreciate it.

Currently just incapable of getting over how Harrow arrived at Canaan house single mindedly obsessed with achieving lyctorhood and when presented with lyctorhood at the end she violently rejects it and even asks her God himself to undo it because she loves Gideon so much more.

Harrow's tragedy is the story of a woman who gets exactly what she thought she wanted.

Gideon: “all I want is to be a soldier and get medals and be God's favorite child and rub it in Harrow's face”

Harrow: “all I want is to become a lyctor and replenish my house and rub it in Griddle's face”

both of them: *get exactly what they wanted, it's the worst thing ever, also there's Ianthe*

why are time loops always only like 1 day long?

the real horror is a months or years long time loop. no speedrunning your torture here. you have to sit with the consequences of your actions for a loooong time before the release of knowing the consequences and actions have been erased.

but oh, all the actions and consequences are gone. those relationships you built? empty. you can never build them again without the constant guilt of knowing that it's not as real the second, third, thirtieth time when you already know all their secrets and they none of yours.

but you can't hide. you can't isolate yourself because what if this is the time the loop breaks and then what? years gone by of missed chances with people who have changed you a thousand times and now circumstances have changed. you can never build back what was washed away by your own inaction. they'll never be able to meet you like they did the first time if you don't choose to meet them the first time every time
