Spock comes back into the room with David cradled to his chest. “He would like to sleep with us, please.”
Jim smiles at them, unable to help himself. He flips back the covers and scoots over to make room, saying, “By all means.”
Spock’s telepathy makes him a very good parent to a nonverbal child. Where Jim has to guess based on what he assumes David needs, Spock actually knows, especially now that he has established a parent-child bond between them.
Now, David snuggles into the space between them, cooing happily when Spock scoots closer so he’s pressed between both their chests. Jim reaches out and wraps his arm around both of them, and he feels Spock’s pleasure in that through their bond.
“That’s right,” Jim says. “My boys.”
“Hello,” Spock says. “It’s very early in the morning.”
“I don’t know if I’ll be able to go back to sleep,” Jim says. “The court martial is today.”
“I have not forgotten,” Spock replies. “But I think it would behoove you to rest as much as you can, even if you do not sleep. You must be emotionally prepared for whatever outcome you face.”
“I’m just worried about David,” Jim admits. “Not that—obviously you’ll do a great job of raising him. But I don’t want to make you.”
“It is my intention to stand with the crew,” Spock says.
“Spock, we talked about this—”
“It is my right,” Spock says. “And my privilege. My parents will gladly care for David if we are briefly detained, which I very much doubt will come to pass.”
“Your mother says she’s too old to raise another child.”
“My father is not,” Spock counters. “I have spoken to him about this. He agrees with the logic of my position.”
“Well, maybe David will learn how to pronounce his family name after all,” Jim says, bested. “I just don’t have your optimism about the results.”
“You saved the planet,” Spock says. “They may argue with your methods, but they cannot argue with the results.”
“Seems like they might.”
Spock cups his cheek, pulling him in so their foreheads touch. “They will not.”
Jim sighs, tipping his face up to kiss him. It’s hard to get too worked up over anything when they’re lying here in bed together with their baby between them, living the life he’d always been too scared to even dream of. If he could go back twenty years and tell himself that it all works out, that Spock decides it’s worth it to love him back and have kids with him, he’d have laughed in his own face. But they’re here. Jim doesn’t think he’ll ever stop marveling over it.
Even death couldn’t keep them apart.
Kirk has made it home with his undead husband and son, and they've saved the world. But the ramifications of taking on a disabled toddler are only beginning to make themselves known, as are the sacrifices Jim will have to make to take care of his second chance at a family. How many times will he give up the Enterprise to be with Spock?
In the episode "Sarek", Picard mentions that he attended the wedding of Sarek's son as a young lieutenant. Assuming this refers to Spock, who do you think is the mysterious person who married him?
We know that McCoy is alive by that date. I don't know about the others, but I don't see any reason they couldn't be too. Kirk is not eligible, since he was trapped in the Nexus by then.
when in doubt about whether or not to make a thing, do it for your 3 hardcore fans.
nothing is too niche. even if it's 1 person. even if the 1 person is you. just create. make it exist.

Okay I know we all joke about how the Star Trek First Contact handshake is accidentally a kiss, but the more I think about it, the more I feel it actually works in-universe and elevates the scene.
There are dozens of sci fi stories where first contact is fumbled based on a misunderstanding and it turns into a massive war. Babylon 5, Ender's Game, several Star Trek episodes in fact. Two different peoples meet but are just a bit too different and we murder each other over nothing. That's just how it goes, right? Realistic, if depressing.
And in Star Trek's first human contact, everything is set up for a fumble. Cochrane is an engineer with zero political skills, and while the Vulcans who come in have at least learned English they're far from an official diplomatic envoy. Earth is not in great shape and they've no idea aliens even exist, so there's a chance for tension. And when the captain does the traditional salute, the human can't even move his fingers into the right configuration, and instead offers his hand. In Vulcan terms, this is about the equivalent of offering a handshake and the other guy wants to shove his tongue down your throat. Plenty of room for disgust, misunderstanding, conflict, another warning about the dangers of difference.
But that isn't what happens. The Vulcan captain sees this and accepts it, reaching out to complete the gesture. He doesn't fully understand what's happening, but he saw Cochrane at least try to do the Vulcan salute, so he chooses to assume the best of him. To meet him where he's at, even if it's a bit awkward for him personally. And it works out. He and his crew are invited for drinks and music, and the dominoes are instead sent towards ending humanity's dark age and starting the Federation. All because the Vulcan captain saw past what could have been an insult and gave humanity the benefit of the doubt.
Star Trek is not a perfect universe where human-Vulcan first contact goes 100% smoothly. Star Trek is a universe where first contact is nearly a diplomatic incident, but they're able to move past that and create something better because both sides chose to be open-minded and compassionate. It might not be (fully, the scene is meant to be a bit awkward but not that awkward) intended, but damn if it doesn't work.
I love how tos spirk is basically the subtle grief and yearning of being queer military personell in the 60/70s, with spocks entire character arc being about overcoming his repression of unfathomable degree, while aos spirk is. american high school au.
i love when people say michael’s existence is a plot hole because spock obviously has such a good track record of telling jim about his family members
person: what are you thinking about?

Spock in fat bottom boy by @softthyla
Just read the fic and you are so right; this fits PERFECTLY. Spock cannot stop staring at that beautiful round ass. Also, Top Spock confirmed (based on the way Spock is staring at Jim’s ass vs. the way Kirk is staring at Spock’s dick). IT’S CANON
updating to include a few on-topic pics of how Spock also can’t stop staring at Kirk’s gorgeous tits in the green shirt ALSO CANON
thank you to @softthyla for your beautiful fic and to @ablankboredtoinsanity for the recommendation! Happy Touch His Tit Tuesday!
There's something so charming about a stack of PADDs in star trek because you know tablets didn't exist yet back then but they didn't want to use paper because it's not futuristic enough but they also want to show that they have a lot of paperwork to do thus the stack of PADDs which presumably was like a hybrid of stack of paper + floppy disks of the future. The retrofuterism of it all, I love it.
their reactions to spock's lil headband hihihi
