Earlier this week I was just leaving the apartment building when I see a little girl in the entrance hall of the ground floor. She's very excited because it was carnival day at school and when I open the door she looks up at me with those colorful fairy wings on her back and and her little coat on the front of herself (to not damage the wings), and she smiles with her slightly messy teeth and her left eye which, behind her glasses, looks to the side (but not her right one, which looks at me). And I give a smile back and a nod, leaving the door open and when I turn around and leave I hear her giggle.

And I don’t know about you but that makes me a little bit emotional. I can’t really remember the last time a random kid smiled or laughed while looking at me. They always stare at me like they have no idea what I am, like I confuse them or something, and when I try to smile at them I suddenly feel like my face is stretched in an unhinged grin and I just look away as fast as I can.

So yeah, that little interaction in the building was important to me.

She made my day.
