Genuinely confident I would've thrived as a mesopotamian. Hanging out in heat, getting wine drunk, writing in clay tablets- it's the ideal lifestyle

Do you ever have the strong urge to set all of tumblr loose on a friend. You know, point out a post like one points out a steak to a pack of wild dogs.

Get 'em, boys. Get the mesopotamian man.

Funnily enough, when they first meet past the edges of the Sol system, the aliens like the humans.

None of the humans were prepared for this.

The humans prepared for decades- for centuries! to contact life out in the black, and be judged harshly for their past.

The aliens, almost to the one, seemed delighted with humanity and everything they entailed. Good, bad, and ugly.

“You see, we heard you calling out for long, long, long… we could not find where you called out from. Now we have! You called for so long, and now we meet you! It is good to know you! We have tried so hard to find you and say, Hello!”

The messages Earth sent out, just in case there was anyone out there to hear, to extend reassurance that they simply were not alone was received always with delight. And they sparked a soft race to find the origin of such a kind and curious signal into the vastness of the universe.

What if aliens managed to translate our languages and learned what we name our rovers and probes. Curiosity. Hope. Perseverance. Opportunity. Voyager. New Horizons. These names reflect what the best of us value - what humanity, when it is accomplishing its most impossible, holds dear.

Talk about a first impression!

What they don't tell you about blanket forts is the older you get, the better you get at building them.

I built a massive blanket fort with six old college friends. We all fit under it - six adults! - and just spent a few hours inside talking. 10/10 experience. Never let them trick you into thinking you're too old for something.

Do you think soul society has a huge betting pool on where Ichigo will end up when he finally, properly dies?

Speculations range from Sokyoku Hill to beyond the last district of the Rukongai to the various biomes of Hueco Mundo to some place that hasn't been discovered yet because this is Ichigo they're talking about.

USA people! Buy NOTHING Feb 28 2025. Not anything. 24 hours. No spending. Buy the day before or after but nothing. NOTHING. February 28 2025. Not gas. Not milk. Not something on a gaming app. Not a penny spent. (Only option in a crisis is local small mom and pop. Nothing. Else.) Promise me. Commit. 1 day. 1 day to scare the shit out of them that they don't get to follow the bullshit executive orders. They don't get to be cowards. If they do, it costs. It costs.

Then, if you can join me for Phase 2. March 7 2025 thtough March 14 2025? No Amazon. None. 1 week. No orders. Not a single item. Not one ebook. Nothing. 1 week. Just 1.

If you live outside the USA boycott US products on February 28 2025 and stand in solidarity with us and also join us for the week of no Amazon.

Are you with me?

Spread the word.

'This won't work, this isn't widespread, nobody knows, we're in a bubble, blah blah blah' my mom, a 64 year old lady with no social media whose first language is spanish, told me about this before tumblr did, and said we are going to participate.

I've seen flyers for this in real life. Do it.

"What makes this protest unique is its laser focus on companies that have rolled back DEI initiatives. Target, Walmart and McDonald's are particularly vulnerable given their recent policy changes. While a single day of reduced revenue won't devastate these giants, it sends a powerful message about consumer expectations in today's market."

The People's Union is targeting Amazon, Walmart and Best Buy, but the group is also asking boycotters to refrain from spending money on fast food or gas, as well.

If consumers must make purchases, they are asked to buy only from small, local businesses

Official Post of Massachusetts

My parents told me about this before Tumblr did. It's real, and it's big. Participate.

The funniest bit about Spock running off to join Starfleet as a "fuck you dad" moment is that there's no way Starfleet was happy about it either. Spock's family is extremely important, T'Pau wields massive influence, Sarek is the Ambassador, ect.

So Starfleet is in this horrible position where they can't say no to this extremely competent and well-connected Vulcan joining up, but it also causes a massive diplomatic headache because his whole family resents it. And then if anything were to happen to him? Major diplomatic incident.

Good thing he's level headed and never throws himself headlong into needless danger---what's that? He's completely unhinged? Oh, well, nevertheless

I want to go make coffee but my kitchen is going to be so so cold... my space heater has psychologically trapped me in my room, the evil mastermind.

The guy who shot the healthcare CEO had engraved ammunition??

Referencing a book about how health insurance denies claims???

This is absolutely insane. I hope this is the next Shinzo Abe, this is buckwild

IT WAS ENGRAVED?????

The sheer number of times I have re-read Swinging Pendulum. God. It's so good.

Your activity in the Bleach fandom recently has made me reread it twice again this evening! Twice! In one evening! (Between bouts of imagining Starkk added to the whole situation dhakvdjabdjak.)

And now I'm going to be up all night thinking about how Kyoraku was getting more and more suspicious of Aizen, and how Shinji was oddly fond of Ichigo so quickly, and all the little plot threads that are just so. SO good to theorize about.

And I love Matsumoto and Fujiwara and their friendship with Ichigo.

Ahhhhhhh it's all so good.

Lolol thank you, I'm glad you like it so much! I've actually also done a couple rereads recently and tbh I kind of want to do a rewrite of SP. Parts of it could rly be better and also I feel like I've outgrown some of the ideas I put in there way back when, or I want to add some things that I hadn't before. But I'm also super busy so idk if I can get around to that anytime soon. Guess we'll see.

!!!!!!!

If SP got a rewrite it would make my whole freakin year. The SP plot is such a satisfying idea, and you execute it so well. More content for it? Where you take your new ideas and perspectives and show off your growth as a writer? I would go insane.

And I know I'm not the only one. That fic has been a backbone of the fandom for years, inspiring basically a whole sub-genre of time-travel-fix-it fics.

If you ever do have the time and energy to revisit it, know it would be received with much excitement and glee.

Reasons why How to Train Your Dragon is objectively the best movie ever:

  • The hero is a hero because they are kind
  • There is a forbidden relationship trope and for once it's forbidden friendship
  • There are dragons. Many, many dragons, of varying species and powers.
  • There are dragon riders.
  • The main character is the different-type-of-badass trope. (Hiccup is an inventor surrounded by extremely skilled warriors, which makes him both more vulnerable and so much more powerful than those around him.)
  • There is parental angst-with-a-happy-ending. The scene where Stoick disowns Hiccup? The scene where Stoick apologizes? sdfkjhsdfjhsdfjksdjk SO GOOD
  • There is bullying angst-with-a-happy-ending. Hiccup starts out as the village outcast, but then the things that make him different lead to him becoming the village hero. And the village, by the end of the movie, realize they were wrong and come to adore Hiccup. It is so so good.
  • THE SOUNDTRACK
  • The way the dragon movements are so lovingly animated
  • The mirroring of Toothless's tail and Hiccup's leg

Anyone ever thought about how Bleach's greatest tragedy is Ichigo's desire was to fight fate but has never had a shred of agency his entire life?

Even when Ichigo sincerely believes he's acting of his own accord; he's merely the puppet dancing to another's strings?

  • Aizen manipulated his parents into meeting, manipulated Rukia into meeting him.
  • Kisuke manipulated Ichigo from behind the scenes while Ichigo tried to save Rukia, forcing him to learn skills waaaay above his paygrade before he was remotely ready to further Kisuke's own plans. It could be argued that Ichigo's entire existence was planned according to Kisuke's designs.
  • Isshin manipulated/forced him to learn Deux Ex Saigo no Getsuga Tenshou without telling him the cost, because apparently it was the 'only way' - despite having Kisuke "I plan for ten thousand scenarios" Urahara on his side. And did little in the way of helping his powerless literally soul-torn son cope with the monumental sacrifice after the fact.
  • Ginjo Kugo and his followers manipulated Ichigo by stringing along the prospect of gaining Fullbring, so they could steal it to have their revenge on Soul Society. Made easier due to the aforementioned apparent lack of support from Isshin.
  • Sword!Yhwach has manipulated Ichigo the entire time by turning him against his own soul, sabotaging his growth and ability to harness his powers.
  • Ichibei manipulated him into undergoing that trial to turn him into a Soul King vessel with the intention of chopping him up as the replacement.
  • Yhwach manipulated Ichigo into killing the Soul King.

"Give me a blade to shatter fate." is a sad joke and poor Ichigo is the walking punchline.

No wonder why no one told him anything about himself until the last minute. An ignorant tool is an easily manipulated tool.

Does hollow Ichigo count for this? From what I remember he seemed to always be blunt and never lied to Ichigo. He even protected him since he was Ichigo's sword spirit.

If that's the case, its sad that the one person actively looking out for Ichigo without lying was the same one Ichigo despised/ didn't trust/ believe until way later.

Its a tragedy, isn't it? The one person who never lied to Ichigo is the one he loathed and ignored the most.

Not out of choice, but because others put the idea in his head.

Remember in the first arc Ichigo wanted to keep his Hollow mask. Both times he had it in Soul Society, he wanted to keep it as a good luck charm but Hanatarou threw it away and Yoruichi pressured him into surrendering it when it returned. The one thing Ichigo instinctually wanted to trust for his protection (because it always protected him), was the thing everyone else, the manipulators and the liars, convinced him was evil.

I wonder if there's a metaphor there...

He is absolutely an adrenaline junky, but he's too self-disciplined to let it affect his work. So, on a mission, he's careful, doesn't take risks, and has contingency upon contingency plans.

But when he's on vacation, he's also on the news, dressed up as some nobody-waitress, jumping into the backseat of a stolen convertible, yelling at Skull in the driver's seat to drive, damn it, while a platoon of carabinieri chase after them.
