ONE DAY

↳book > screenΒ

β€œIf you muck me about, Dexter.” β€œI won’t-β€œ β€œI mean it, if you lead me on or let me down or go behind my back, I will murder you. I swear to God, I will eat your heart.”

β€œI won’t do that, Em.” β€œYou won’t?” β€œI swear, I won’t.”

And then she frowned, and shook her head, then put her arms around him once more, pressing her face into his shoulder, making a noise that sounded almost like rage. β€œWhat’s up?” he asked. β€œNothing. Oh, nothing. Just…” She looked up at him. β€œI thought I’d finally got rid of you.” β€œI don’t think you can,” he said.

Both the hunger games before and now the ballad of songbirds and snakes proves that the young adult genre can produce some genuinely good storytelling while also examining social issues without talking down to its audience, which makes the ungodly amount of popular bad ya novels all the more embarrassing.

name something more iconic than a queer love confession followed by an arrest while strawberry kisses is playing

Okay I don’t want to hear a single person ever say again that having representation is too much on a TV show or not realistic because heartbreak high had autistic representation, lesbian representation, οΏΌ non-binary representation, asexual representation, Aboriginal representation, and Asian representation all in one show and not for one fucking second did I think this is unrealistic, especially in a Sydney based school. That is exactly what kids are like and is exactly what real life is like!!!!!

Omg Australian schools let you dress so freely

LET ME WEAR SHORTS AMERICA

Here in the states my teachers made ONLY the girls lift their arms up before boarding the bus for a school trip to see if any belly skin was peeking, used a ruler to measure our shorts length, used a half sheet of paper as a test to see if our bags were too big 😭😭😭

Shorts or crop tops you were sent to the principals office then came back wearing PE clothes

Ofc no spaghetti straps

I need yalls to tell me if my school was nuts or was it like this elsewhere

Oh no no no. Majority of schools in Australia have uniforms, even public schools! Not sure why they wear mufti clothes on the show possibly to show character personality better? Idk. But yeah we’d have to wear uniform with black leather shoes to school lol

also i think a lot of young folks on tumblr might take the wrong lessons away from quinni and sasha

quinni deserves so much more than sasha; she deserves a partner. all people deserve a partner. not someone who condescends to them and gets off on feeling morally superior for fucking someone who isn’t neurotypical

quinni is a queen and sasha is a mean person who needs to figure out how to be kind and rewind

perhaps Heartbreak High is a masterpiece, having a love confession immediately followed by an arrest with Strawberry Kisses by Nikki Webster playing over the top

y'all better start watching heartbreak high (2022) on netflix it has indigenous rep, autistic rep, non-binary rep, and representation for so many sexualities. it’s not perfect but is such an amazing step in australian media and was genuinely a great teen drama to watch.

the soundtrack was SPECTACULAR and i was so !! at the use of just general australian language like having someone say β€œyou’re cooked” on a netflix show i- like it never felt cringe it just felt real lmao
