dakhma (Persian: دخمه), also known as a Tower of Silence, is a circular, raised structure built by Zoroastrians for excarnation (that is, the exposure of human corpses to the elements for decomposition), in order to avert contamination of the soil and other natural elements by the dead bodies.Carrion birds, usually vultures and other scavengers, consume the flesh. Skeletal remains are gathered into a central pit where further weathering and continued breakdown occurs.

Someone from central or eastern Europe: “yeah my grandparents hoard a lot of food because when they were kids during the soviet era, they frequently didn’t have enough food”

random western leftist: “hm :/ you didn’t provide a university level essay complete with at least 15 citations (approved by me) nor specified what era you were talking about. Yeah I think this is anti-communist, US propaganda :/ you should kys”

It is truly a strange thing when a steam pipe bursts under an abandoned building in the dead of winter, but that’s exactly what happened under the Clinic Building at Greystone Park State Hospital in 2007, a month before the building was unceremoniously knocked down.  The steam congregated near the ceiling of the abandoned asylum infirmary, condensing on the pipes and dripping down in regular patterns - and creating these ice stalagmites.  An hour after taking this photograph, demolition workers came into the building and chased us through the tunnels; we had to hide in an attic in 0 degree weather for hours while cops searched for us.  The next time I drove out there, there was no trace that a building had ever stood in this spot.

Otherwise known as glacier blood, watermelon snow is found worldwide in mountains and polar regions. The pink-red snow has a faintly fruity smell but is reported to have laxative effects if eaten.
The watermelon colour comes from freshwater green algae called chlamydomonas nivalis. In summer, the algae produce a red pigment to protect themselves from the Sun’s intense rays.
