I just like drawing and being loyal. That’s all!

Two Circles

I added my own ring.

Just wondering... would Cirrus ever accept a gift like that from a lover? A ring feels like a tiny collar for the finger...Would he see it as a kind of restraint?

It’s only love I wanted to express—not transgression, not control.🥹

I guess my ring would only fit his little finger. Which kind of suits him-means no marriage, after all.

Following up on the previous ask:

Would the love interests have a joint portrait done with Vesper?

Francesco Absolutely! What a great piece to hang up in their future shared home ♥

Keir Keir isn't especially comfortable having a portrait of him done, to be honest, but if he was masked, and it was small, then maybe?

Oleander Once it becomes clear that Oleander and Vesper are doing whatever it is they're doing for the long haul, he'd be game!

Cirrus He's actually pretty enthused about that idea. It feels like a great way to cement their relationship.

OMG It makes me so happy to know Cirrus likes this🥺💕

Haii!! Just wanna say I absolutely adore OBSCURA :DD I finally got my partner to sit down and play the game with me since I found it back in 2022.

We thought of a pretty good question- For children who are born in the Market, do they use a pseudo-name and wear a mask? Or do they use their given name, etc. Etc?

Avatar

It varies from family to family, but the general trend is that wearing a mask outside the home regularly is a bit of a rite of passage for the kid and signals a new stage of independence for them. What age that's at depends on the kid and the family. While the market definitely has its own culture, there aren't a lot of people intentionally starting families down there for some reason and so there isn't a consistent practice.

Pseudonyms are even more of a "it depends" thing. Keir's grown up with the same community his whole life and intends to keep doing that, so having a fake name with them would be entirely pointless, for example.

The lore… pls pls pls a tiniest bit of lore, just a crumb ahdjakaka

How about this: what money is called under the mountain!

Since Vesper's money problems start and end with "I don't have and will never get enough to buy lunar ichor normally", we don't get into the nitty-gritty of the monetary system in the game yet. But we did have to think about it and so here it is!

There are two types of common coin: rum and gent. Gent (singular: genti) are the small coins, named after the Latin word for silver, argenti. There are ten gent in a rumi. Rum (singular: rumi) are the larger value of coin, named after the Latin word for gold, aurum. To use it in context:

"A good meal under the mountain usually goes for a rumi. Two rum for the really nice stuff. But if you're a guest of the Leaping Bear, a meal goes for eight gent. That's only a genti more than some of the sketchier street food stalls, and it's great!"

Besides fractum anima and lunar ichor, we tried our best to not lob too many fantasy terms at you while you're starting out, hence why it barely comes up. You see the word rum once in Francesco's route and that's it as far as I remember. I (Violet) am personally not a huge fan of starting a story and being met with a wall of terminology (though I understand the appeal for others), but we do have some interesting things lurking in the part of the narrative iceberg that you don't see.

Hiiii!

I just played through chapter two and oml it was stunning. I had to pause several times because i kept giggling and took a lap around my room when i got the cirrus and keir good end. Props to the artist and writer because their work is incredible.

Anyways, I’d like to ask a few questions, though some of these have probably been asked beforehand.

Firstly, do the choices about your features matter when keir asks you about your best feature and eye color? As in, will it change anything other than the text?

Secondly, under the assumption that the answer to the first question is yes, how much can we customize our vesper? Will there even be a face reveal where the player can decide or is there a canon vesper with only the eye color changing?

Thirdly, is there ever going to be a point where we change masks or names? In a route where it is needed for this to happen after vesper gets themself in a rough spot?

Lastly, are we ever going to know the real names of every major character? We already know francesco’s because of how naive he is but what about the others? This also applies to vesper, will they ever get a name reveal?

Sorry if some of these questions have the potential to spoil anything, feel free to make your answer as vague as possible.

Whoo, that's a lotta questions. Here's the short answers:

  1. The appearance chat with Keir has a lot of text variations, but they're all for flavour. There's no affection score or story branching occurring because of that.
  2. While we'll never say never, I don't think a Vesper face reveal is in the cards. There are things that are important about Vesper that are definitely canon that we have to depict in-game, but their appearance isn't one of those things.
  3. No asking for spoilers, naughty 🤫
  4. Without getting too philosophical before the caffeine has kicked in, I think there's an argument to be made that the only character working under a false name is Oleander. Keir and Cirrus' names are the ones they use with their core community, which as far as I'm concerned is what a real name is. It's the name you use with the people who matter most to you, not the name you were first given as a baby.

Do guns canonically exist in this universe?!?!?  This question has haunted me for months....

The marketplace has black powder and cannons exist outside the market in some capacity, but firearms are just not terribly useful in the market in particular. It's just not an environment amenable to ranged combat in general, and those suckers take time to load and reload (we're talking muskets and other single-shot, front-loaded weapons).

Which isn't to say there are no guns at all! There's a noble building a collection of guns and testing them out on her enemies, for example. But they're a more limited tool in that specific setting when a light crossbow is almost certainly going to be more accurate, quieter, and easier to reload and still get the job done.

Would Cirrus want Vesper to wear a collar at all times (like a Total Power Exchange situation) or only during certain times like during kink sessions/sexy times? And if it’s the former would he still want the collar to be obvious or would he have them wear a more discreet one in public?

Once their relationship has been established, he'd lean more towards a TPE situation, yes! He really craves the kind of control that it offers him.

To that end, and to mark Vesper as his, he would gift them a fairly noticeable collar.

Hello there! I was wondering if you had inspiration you drew from when you wrote/came up with Obscura?

We brought a lot of ideas to the table in the planning phase for Obscura and I've mentioned them in the past, but I don't think I've ever talked about the inspo images?

When the initial pitch for "literally underground marketplace" was made, there were three visuals I remember really vividly. I've tracked them down again, by which I mean I found them on the Wikipedia pages for each place.

From left to right those are the Wieliczka Salt Mine, Salina Turda, and Sedlec Ossuary (yes those are real bones, I have been there and it's so cool), in Poland, Romania, and Czechia respectively. Obviously we went our own way with the concept of "underground market" visually, but these images were really helpful when initially visualising the kind of world the story could happen in. Admittedly, the Ossuary image didn't play as much of a part in the visuals, but it was a strong influence in the creation of the b o n e l o r e.

NSFW question: What would LI think of a Vesper who was so embarrassed about being so loud during sex that they bit their shoulder to keep their voice down? Would they like it or would they ask Vesper to be more careful in the future?

Francesco As much as he loves being bitten, he doesn't want Vesper being embarrassed, because he thinks their voice is the most beautiful thing he's ever heard. He'll probably ask why they're feeling embarrassed in the first place and go from there.

Keir Depending on the mood, he might be very into it or deliberately pick a position where he is out of biting range.

Oleander It's an adorable tic, but embarrassment is usually caused by self-awareness, and self-awareness is a bit antithetical to his usual goals in bed. Expect him to (very patiently) encourage noisiness and discourage that kind of self-monitoring over time.

Cirrus HOO BOY.

Biting him is a surefire way to get choked into near unconsciousness. "If you're so self-conscious of your voice, I'll make sure you can't use it in the first place."

Then again, he likes an embarrassed Vesper. If he's feeling nice, he might do something to force them to be more vocal regardless...
