I am gonna do bullet points to highlight important things the article mentions.
•Talks about how Amandla Stenberg, lead of The Acolyte, addressed the hate she faced before the show even aired, calling it a “rampage of hyper-conservative bigotry.” In a show of support, Boyega commented on her Instagram post with a GIF of Han Solo, a symbolic gesture of solidarity during a painful moment.
• Mentions Moses Ingram faced similar racist abuse after her role in Obi-Wan Kenobi. Disney issued a statement defending her, but the damage was already done. Kelly Marie Tran was bullied so badly after The Last Jedi that she left social media altogether.
•Talks about The Acolyte: Despite solid performances and fresh storytelling, the series was canceled after just one season. Online, racist influencers celebrated its end, calling it a win against “wokeness.” YouTube videos mocked the cast. Elon Musk posted a cryptic message that many interpreted as support for the backlash. The hate was loud, coordinated, and encouraged by platforms that profit off outrage.
• Lastly it talks about the treatment of Boyega, Stenberg, Tran, and so many others shows that the industry still has far to go. Until major studios stand firmly behind their stars, the cycle of casting, backlash, and silence will continue. And fans like Boyega—who wanted to lead and inspire—will keep calling it out.
I wanted to point out that the entire documentary is well worth the watch, and it comes in two parts- Leading Black Men and Leading Black Women. The Leading Black Women is even more fascinating imo. You can watch the two part series on Apple + and I highly recommend it.
so long as we're back to social justice 101 on this stupid website, u need to be aware of the feedback loop that emerges from disproportionate scrutiny: any social group that is placed under extra scrutiny, regardless of the actual prevalence of any particular behaviour, will appear to engage in that behaviour more often.
you see this most blatantly with racialised groups (more cops in black neighbourhoods = more arrests in black neighbourhoods = "omg look at all the crime in these neighbourhoods!" = more cops in black neighbourhoods etc). even if the rate of crime is the same (putting to one side the criminalisation of poverty which is also an important related factor), one group gets away with it way more often and a new generation of racists is indoctrinated with the crime statistics which "prove" that some groups are simply more criminal in nature. we see a similar phenomenon online with particular groups (trans women being a huge example) being subjected to mass stalking, their every move documented by weirdos and broadcast as representative of the group as a whole.
tl;dr - overscrutinising groups based on existing bigotries creates a recurring feedback loop, reproducing those bigotries across generations and nominally justifying them. this is bad, and you need to remember that you are not immune to it.

Thinking about @asterosian's post about how "your fetish doesn't have to be praxis", and I want to riff: your gender transition also doesn't have to be praxis.
Like, yes, it's cool and good if your gender transition upsets cisheteronormativity and power. That's great. However, if you feel as though your gender transition has to upset cisheteronormativiy and power, and you think you aren't achieving that, this view becomes something that can make you stay closeted.
We've already seen the consequences of trying to make your gender presentation praxis, in criticisms of second wave feminism: it leads to people either feeling as though they have to take on a gender presentation they don't like, or they have to bend over backwards to justify why the things they like are Actually Praxis (even when they obviously aren't).
It's okay to transition just to alleviate your gender dysphoria, or to give yourself more gender euphoria. That isn't selfish or regressive. You don't need to maximise the amount of praxis in every action you ever take; that's a very quick path to burnout.
At the end of the day, your gender is what it is. That may or may not change over time. You may push the edges of what you’ve been comfortable with and find it’s more expansive than you thought - but you may also find that you settle more and more comfortably into a conventional gender. If whatever does or doesn’t change is driven by your own relationship to your self and your experiences, wonderful.
Gender is politicized. Absolutely. But whenever I start hearing echoes of “your understanding of yourself should change because it would be better for me” (possibly with a side of “and I’ve also decided it would ~actually~ be better for you”), I don’t care if that’s coming from a relationship, a community’s norms, or a political movement, it’s shit. I’ve seen enough about why transitioning, or transitioning to a particular gender, or sometimes even not transitioning, is actually harmful/regressive/uncool, and I’m over it. It keeps people from even being able to think about the option of embodying the gender that they would find suits them best. You don’t owe anyone (or any movement) that kind of influence over your identity or desires.
Acting like your transition, or anyone's transition, has to be praxis? Is itself bad praxis. Because of all this. Because what all this boils down to is; acting like transition has to be praxis is literally just going back to the idea that your gender doesn't belong to you, it belongs to Society.
I thought we were meant to be against the idea that we didn't own our own bodies.
