Echoes of Arlathan, My Beloved My Project Eternal on AO3

Because I'm honestly more in love with this fic and this series overall, a link to some of my best work over the last five years. This Now-Five-Part series is my Dragon Age AU that originally kicked off with wanting to take DAO/Inquisition's Connor Guerrin from In Hushed Whispers and toss him into the Fereldan Grey Wardens.

The Connor stories (2) are separate from Echoes, and I am currently writing and posting Echoes' Book Three, The Hearthkeeper.

Echoes of Arlathan's basic premise is my HoF Surana is haunted by his past in the Circle of Magi and, to deflect from this, abuses a tranquil elf in Vigil's Keep. This abuse sends the Tranquil home to build an alienage life for himself while the Archmage faces his past and suffers a terrible injury in the ruins of Kinloch Hold.

In the third book, the three built-up factions (Circle elves; Alienage elves; Dalish elves) come to a head in the Decennial Dalish religious festival, the Arlath'vhen.

One thing I haven't heard people talk about. In the finale Murderbot says "may I have my armor" not "will I need my armor" not "do i need my armor" it asks "may I have my armor" and it is denied.

It is denied because PresAux doesnt hear the question for what it is. They hear "will I still need to be a killing machine" when thst is not ehat it is asking. PresAux is trying so hard but murderbot needs to check the perimiter because, not intentionally, its first ask once it is told its allowed to choose is denied.

Idk if this is coherent its 1 am and I am watching the finale for the 7th time and I just realized how important that one exchange is. It feels like its lost its purpose snd it needs to find it. It cant have its armor and it needs to find out what that means

In the show, after Mensah tells Murderbot it's coming with them back to Presevation where it won't be security, Murderbot says "We can talk about this."

I see this as Murderbot trying to let the PresAux crew know it's unhappy with the idea that it won't be security anymore, but the team is too excited about having their bestie back to notice. Murderbot doesn't have the context of the Sweet/Bitter game that the audience saw. It's only context with the exact phrase "we can talk about this" comes from when the PresAux crew was upset with it for killing LeeBeeBee.

It's trying to communicate in a language it thinks its clients/owners will understand. They just don't notice.

My adaptation of the God of Arepo short story, which was originally up at ShortBox Comics Fair for charity. You can get a copy of the DRM-free ebook here for free - and I'd encourage you to donate to Mighty Writers or The Ministry of Stories in exchange.

Again it's an honour to be drawing one of my favourite short stories ever. Thank you so much for the original authors for creating this story; and for everyone who bought a copy and donated to the above non-profits.

I really enjoyed that when Gurathin quietly says “you need to check the perimeter” what he meant was “I respect your free will and your personhood and while this is not the choice I want you to make, I won’t try to stop you from making it”. he’s come so far from early episodes when he just snaps “perimeters fine” and refuses to let mb leave

im so not over the scene of Murderbot almost being put in the acid bath

in that moment, it wasn't Murderbot. its governor module was intact, it memories of PresAux were wiped, it didn't have any downloaded episodes of Sanctuary Moon

in that moment, it was just another SecUnit. And it was scared. it was pinging the other units, looking around for answers, visually unsure and fearful

this from the guy who wrote the sting pain index, a scale he constructed after letting himself be stung by insects

“why did i start this list” pleaseeeeeee this is so funny

his descriptions were extremely on-point, and frankly inspiring when writing a hurt/comfort scene

Instagram poets could never!

For those who want it, here is the entire list:

Anyways, dude's 1,000% a huge masochist. Nobody just describes pain like this unless they're enjoying it.

This guy reads like 'was made to write Fragantica comments but unfortunately does not enjoy perfume'. He found another niche, good for him

In a desperate attempt o Write Something New and avoid rererewritting my almost-finished manuscript, I’ve pulled an old project apart in two two separate story ideas.

And I have not much idea which one to start with.

Option 1: 1920s Americana Clockwork vibes. In a city rocked by freak explosions from the sky, the black sheep of a powerful family must protect his mind and siblings from the supernatural visitor whose sudden presence no one else questions in their home.

Think War Of The Worlds and Meet Joe Black. A little bit of horror and a whole lot of drama.

Option 2: 1910s-WWI Adjacent “Europe”. A jaded veteran tries to reach his family’s estate as the front line of a reality-breaking storm creeps closer, only to get caught in a rail explosion and hurtled right into the clouds of chaos. Changed into something more beast than man, he has to get home, he has to get home, he has to get home…

A mix of Shadow And Bone, a grittier Darker Shade Of Magic, a wolf-man with a shotgun has a wolf spider for a companion.

Instant good mood

I didn’t even need the volume for this mood raiser

[video description: two men in suits with their shirts half unbuttoned dance smoothly in sync to “Stayin’ Alive” by the BeeGees. Their choreography matches the song perfectly and they exude and air of fun confidence.]/end description.

I mean, this was wonderful before I put the headphones on.
