is it okay to ask where do you do your research? <:) do you use Google / any articles that pop up or do you invest yourself in books? I really want to get started on my own story that takes place in the 20th century and honestly there’s so much I don’t even know where to look

Hi!!! My research comes from multiple sources like Google, library books and documentaries I watched online. I also visit lots of art and fashion exhibitions, especially for historical fashion, so those helped my research. I recommend reading up on the area you live in to see what it was like in the 20th century!

hi i love your character designs and i love the outfits you give them. may i inquire your inspiration for adannas outfit?

Tyyy and Adanna's outfits come from a me combining different pieces of clothing from 1930s fashion. These were the ones that inspired me. The second image is from a 1939 fashion show called "The Women" in Technicolor.

Your OCs and story seem so interesting!! And btw gothic fiction doesn’t have to be any specific time period :)

TYSMMMMM and ahhh that actually reassures me sm cause I was afraid of being called a fraud for not setting the story in actual gothic times 😅😅

Some Content Warnings

Before this project comes out I just wanna let y’all know that there will be depictions of:

  • Medical malpractice
  • Warfare
  • Queerphobia (implicit)
  • Misogyny (also implicit)
  • Racism (implicit as well)
  • Loss of bodily autonomy
  • Body horror
  • Childhood trauma/child abuse
  • Existentialism
  • Drug abuse
  • Alcohol abuse

And probably other things that I forgot to mention. Because of this idk if the series will be 16+ like I initially planned. None of these things are too explicit but I would feel a bit uncomfortable if someone under 18 ended up reading my story. At the same time I fear if I label it as 18+ people might assume it’s just porn. No… I mean unless you get off to lesbians drenched in blood.

What kind of story is this? I call it a gothic horror but it's not really set in gothic times. However, it does contain every other aspect that would deem something as gothic horror, including very taboo subjects and the repressed sexuality of the main character.

The story is actually set in a time that would be equivalent to the 1930s. I took interest in that era because a lot of iconic horror movies came out in that time, plus the rise in spiritualism due to the great depression and general trauma from the First World War. Speaking of cinema, it was during the 30s that Hollywood started its repression of depictions of queerness in cinema and that was the case around the world. Everyone was in a panic about sexual deviancy and the terrifying transgenders!!!! It's why I made my two main characters a repressed lesbian and a transmasculine lesbian. (And I just like drawing black lesbians with weird genders dealing with freaky shit like ghosts and demons)
