If my reblogs for the last few weeks have taught me anything, it's that the people yearn for more Ada Blackjack content! Dartmouth recently posted all of their Wrangel Island pics in glorious high def, so here are some new to me Adas, all taken from this digital collection which I strongly encourage you to check out!

It's an interesting thought experiment; what happens to a world after the great war is won. in lotr we see frodo in convalescence after all he endured, but we have limited scope as to what happens to middle earth, what happens to mordor, now that the scourge is gone. a good and rewarding read.

A French officer returns home with his stork, June 1918.
16th of June 1918, this is René Fonck, with Hélène the stork, given to him and the whole of French aviation as a mascot by Lyon's mayor ('s wife who was called Hélène).
René Fonck is considered one of the best aviators of all allied forces (or was back then; his alignment with French collaboration in 1940-44 didn't do well for him in collective memory, which. Deserved) and his plane had a stork on it. That's not just a random french officer with a random stork.
As a french, while I didn't know about this pic or story, this immediately made me think there was more to it : storks are a symbol of Alsace, a region that was taken by Germany in 1870 and that France was extremely eager to take back in 1914.
Hélène went to live at the Strasbourg zoo (in Alsace, France) after the war.
So... I do want to know a bit more about this, but the closest I got (aside from finding that white storks prefer to breed in western France and not in Alsace) was a 2011 article on an anti-nazi stork mascot in Germany
Possible the greatest piece of avian social commentary since Alfred J. Kwak's crow friend got really political.
It’s my birthday so I’m forcing people on my dash to look at my cat. I can’t afford to blaze it but please look at him. His name is Fionn!
A very kind soul has decided to blaze this post! And if you want to see more of Fionn, check out @fionn-the-cat
Oh no. MAGA is mad that the NYT shared the names of DOGE staffers. Don’t share this! Would be a shame
The Trump-Vance-Musk regime is not only undermining democracy in the United States. It is also laying the foundation for undermining democracies around the world. We must make it clear — to our fellow Americans, as to the remainder of the free world — that we believe in democracy, that we appreciate Zelenskyy’s courage and tenacity, and that Trump and Vance do not speak for us.
