okay but if you ever see a male creative who had a string of great work and then everything else he did was dogshit, go to the "personal life" part of his wikipedia and look at his relationships. you'll either find a major tragedy he didn't recover from (completely understandable) or, more likely, there was a woman in his life doing uncredited shit editing his stuff or contributing generally and she's not there anymore.

I told a friend about this phenomenon in literature and he called me weeks later like, I remembered what you said about women doing uncredited work when tim burton came up. he made a string of bangers then everything else just was nowhere near as good. the timeline matches perfectly to when he was with this german visual artist (lena gieseke). he's done some good work in collaboration, but if things were dug into I suspect we would find she did a lot more than people realise.

so yeah whenever you look around like wow women didn't work in history, or, women aren't auteurs, or, there just aren't as many great female writers - societal reasons for that aside, half the time they absolutely did.

I have several but for now I'll pick Stefan. (The bunnies are getting enough screen time with Vierapril. So have one of my elves.)

Stefan is one half of a set of twins. (His sister insists she's the older one.) Where as his sister is a healer, he's more of a battle mage. His specialty is in acranemia but he does know black magic and more recently pictomancy. He has a goal of learning all the different types of battle magic in time. Very much a book worm with a special interest in the War of the Magi. His hobby is alchemy in which he works on making his own medicines and trying to make them taste good.

He's very much gay and one of Sahji's partners. He will call Ronove a partner but they're more of battle partners than anything else. (Neither is in anyways interested in the other.) Other notable companions are his carbuncles and Fai (what looks to be a chocobo chick in a dragon costume but is a magical familiar). The carbuncles names are Esper (Ruby), Sol (Topaz), and Stella (Emerald) with Esper being the most commonly spotted at his side.

He is still often staying with the Blue Moon Troupe out in Thavnair for his own well being. He's actually making some efforts to improve himself and his life before he ends up dead early. Though he claims Ely is trying to murder him with her training methods.

anyway, this is Dominik bas Dekah, formerly the heir to a prominent military family in Garlemald. While one side of his family was aristocratic and could trace their bloodline back several centuries in Garlemald's history, the other side of his family were foreign aan from conquered provinces in Ilsabard, and it certainly caused quite a scandal in polite society when his nobleborn father married his "savage" "slave stock" other father.

However, it's from that side of his family that Dominik gets his most iconic skill: his ability to subjugate ghosts/spirits and exploit them for their power. While initially inherited, Dominik further honed the ability into the formidable power it is today at his Ilsabardian grandmother's elbow. All in secret, of course, as House Dekah had sworn off the use of magic generations ago in order to better conform into the Pureblood-dominated society of Garlemald.

Dominik, however, did not give a single flying fuck about this rule, and only craved power, and the ability to enslave ghosts/spirits to his will was too tempting to pass up. This proved to be detrimental, as shortly before the fall of Garlemald, he was quietly investigated by one of the Emperor's pet reapers; an attack dog by the name of Daine (that other white-haired fuckboy). Eventually Dominik was deemed an enemy of the state for his ghost-eating powers, and was assassinated by Daine for it, which is its own messy and complicated story as they were kinda in a situationship because they're both awful, horrible people. However, sometime during EW's Garlemald arc, Dominik wound up being revived back to life by his ghosts (VERY much like how the Alexandrians use souls to cheat death), and he's been trying to cope with that ever since, as his body no longer feels like his anymore

Ser Adélei de Saivatoix, an Ishgardian doctor and a field medic for the Knights Hospitalier, whose passion is medical alchemy. The eldest son of an ambitious middleborn family, which has doomed him from the start, as his parents will stop at nothing -- including abuse and control -- in order to marry him off to a nice girl of noble blood in order to finally make House Saivatoix a true highborn family. To them, he's a bargaining chip in a generations-long gambit to climb Ishgard's social hierarchy, and they WILL clip his wings and lock him away in a cage in service to it, just as what was done to them.

There's just one problem: Adélei is Gay Gay Homosexual Gay, and is adamantly against 'living a lie' for the rest of his life, not even as a lavender marriage (not to mention, there's very few noble families willing to marry a daughter off to a man who's known to have no interest in women). Thus he has spent most of his life at odds with his own family, weathering years of abuse and manipulation and ostracization. He resents his family -- his father especially -- and yet loves them too, and he hates that he loves them, and it's once again a very messy situation with no clear cut emotions, no Black and White.

Luckily, he has managed to stubbornly stick to his morals, even going so far as to run away to the frontlines of the Dragonsong War in his 20s to get out from under his family's thumb. He longs to spread his wings and fly away, but he's currently too scared to make that first leap into the unknown
