the three most important lessons God has been teaching me lately:

  1. Humility is key and self-righteousness is a deadly poison that you often do not realize has taken over your system until you get a big old wake up call (how I learned this: the hard way)
  2. "As for forgiveness, not permission" is a horrid way to approach relationships and only applies to a few things. If you're really angry, then you REALLY ought to keep your mouth shut. If you're overcome with emotion, you have even more reason to be careful what you do or say. In fact, you can avoid a world of extraneous, overcomplicated trouble if you watch your tongue. (how I learned this: said stupid things when emotional)
  3. You're never going to KNOW for SURE what's coming your way, so all you really have to do is be faithful in the small things that come up day to day and live humbly and joyfully and with zest for life. (how I learned this: gave into despair a few too many times)

Sometimes I read promises in the Bible of joy or dancing or thanksgiving with a bitter lens, as if it is threatening me & my lack of those things now. I always forget that those promises are for me, & they are good things to want, that God Himself is a good thing to want in my life.
