tips for writing fat characters, because i want to read more fat y/n's:

-obviously #1 is not using words that describe the character as small, delicate, petite, dainty, fragile, waifish, etc.

-nobody's getting picked up, thrown over a shoulder, or tossed on a bed. (at least without a considerable amount of sweating and effort. i will, however, give points for someone trying to do these things and failing miserably)

-there's a lot of physical stuff loads of fat folks can't do, sexual positions we can't contort ourselves into, etc. like, you will never get a fic from me where the fat reader has to run and is any good at it. she might run, sure, but it'll be slow and she'll be thinking about where she can safely stop to catch her breath the entire goddamn time (and when she does stop to catch her breath it's not a quick stop, either. she's panting and heaving and cursing god for not giving her a bicycle)

-there's a real, acute wariness when a fat person is being wooed by a thinner/conventionally attractive person bc we've all been (or seen) a 'prank' or a 'dare' to fuck a fat person at some point in our lives

-recognize that being fat (or at the very least, Not Thin) means that the world interacts with them entirely different way. people are gonna stare or be rude at the gym, folks will talk down to them for no reason, 'friends' infantilize and desexualize them by acting like they're just a big soft teddy bear and not, like, a grown person with a voracious libido.

-being fat is not the foremost thing on their mind, but it's still in there all the time. sure they may go to the gym, but there's gonna be at least one employee they avoid bc they're always trying to get them to sign up for a personal trainer just a little too tenaciously, y'know? so maybe that makes the character avoid the gym on certain days when they know that particular person is working

-if someone is shitty to them about their weight and there's witnesses, at least one will probably think that they have a point, that if you weren't so heavy that things would be better for you or w/e

-include little parts of 'fat culture', like needing new leggings because the inner thighs gave out, buying gold bond running sticks for hot days in sundresses so there's no chafing, seeing a cute outfit and realizing they don't even make those in your size, having doctors ignore your ailments in favor of telling you to lose weight, coworkers constantly pointing you in the direction of a new fad diet every other month, people asking 'should you really be eating that?' etc etc

-using nice words to describe a fat body. 'soft' is a very obvious favorite of mine, because who doesn't love soft things?? (i also like plush, luxurious, cushiony, warm, etc. i also view words like round, wide, jiggly to be very value-neutral)

-i find that a good way to keep it from being fetish-y is to include the pov of the person that's attracted to the fat character. just dive into their head and let the reader know that they just like soft things, especially this lovely person that's also kind and smart and sweet or whatever personality traits kept their focus and attention!!

-please, for the love of god, stop saying 'flesh'

okay a of all I love this and I think I've reblogged it before and I will p much always do so but b of all some fat babes of all genders can be physically moved around/picked up by their partners? sure it's probably not going to be like it is in movies with super small actresses and camera-fit men and hidden wires and v flexible body/stunt doubles and whatnot but many things are possible for many bodies! if you don't have and/or can't obtain personal knowledge of such things, please watch some high quality and queer & body positive porn with fat people if you don't think so! okay bye!

I do not drive. Have never bothered to learn. I worked one job 29 years and 9 months. I am currently on a 2nd job. I used to have to walk at least two blocks to get from the bus stop to the building or two blocks away to get to the bus stop and catch the bus taking me homeward. IF I had told myself I was not catching the bus unless it drops me off at the door I would not have a monthly pension and free medical.
