misha. human disaster. chewing glass about mysterious lotus casebook. multishipper. fandom old. ao3: tidelocked

so a thing about me is that i am, all things considered, more gullible than one might expect. a number of years (ok ok decades) ago, i decided to basically trust people whenever possible, and for the most part, continue to do so.

for obvious reasons, this means that i sort of hate and loathe april fool's day, and tend to avoid the internet for like 48 hours, because it's fucking annoying to me.

which means that often when i come back, there are stray bit of news or 'news' that i have to fact check, which is fine because by april second, people generally don't care enough to sustain the fiction any more.

this is the first time i've come back and everything that i've felt the need to fact check has been true.

on one hand, possibly i personally am now free of the yearly plague of nonsense and lies!

on the other hand, yikes.

someday i will write an essay on the way fandom likes to recreate the exact same flavor of aggressively heteronormative relationship dynamics in every popular slash ship ever invented regardless of how the characters behave or interact with each other in canon.

which one is the designated momwife who is fussy, emotionally fragile, and largely incompetent at anything outside the domestic/caretaking sphere but just SO warm and nurturing and eager to look after His Man, and which one is the alpha male who is strong, smart, brave - a natural leader of men - but who needs The Love Of A Good (Wo)man to be truly happy.

they're both men so this is totally progressive btw. maybe they can be girldads so we can all marvel over how amazing and adorable it is for a father to adequately care for a female child. this entails Doing Her Hair, naturally, and little else.

I love all books but sometimes you read a book and you’re like so were all 21 thousand of you blindfolded and at gun point when you rated it 5 stars

what they dont tell you about growing up as a very lonely little girl is that you grow up and still a part of you remains that very lonely little girl

this time for sure (2025)

a zine i wrote about struggling to create art, broadly. consider this a spiritual successor to Some Artist You Are

if you would like to download this as a single printable or digital image, or give me money for some reason, you can do that over at itch.io: this time for sure

lying in bed after waking up- 2 hours

scrolling through tumblr- 3 hours

reading- 1 hour 30 minutes

masturbating- 8 hours

lying in bed before going to sleep- 1 hour

someone who is good at time management please help me budget this. my family is dying.

Sure sure romantic pairings are fine and all. But more people should perhaps consider two characters loving each other to the point of incomprehensibility. To the point that there is no simpler way in english to define or describe it than just to say those characters’ names together, joined eternally by the vague conjunction ‘and’. There’s so many types of love and dependencies and emotions in general thrown in there that you can’t tell what colors they are anymore, they’ve just joined into a giant blobby mess that’s almost black, but when you look closer glistens with more colors than there are names for. Just a thought

if you've ever thought that it doesn't matter to writers if you comment on their silly fan fictions, please know that every time someone says 'oh god, you [did something in your story]', my heart grows three sizes and an angel* gets its wings**

*cat **gets forcibly snuggled

I can never leave Tumblr because after years of sporadic therapy utterly failed to even approach the core of my problem some random tumblr user was like “I processed my trauma by writing a 10,000 word work of filthy fanfic erotica” and I was like “fuck it I’ve tried everything else” and now I’m 17 chapters and 20,000 words deep into an unpublishable work of obscenity and after careful literary analysis with one of the Beloved Mutuals I have come to some Terrible Revelations about my childhood and may now continue the process of Healing. Where else am I supposed to get this kind of experience. Who does this. Why are we like this. I’m never leaving. I love y’all.

am i having a brain bleed are people seriously considering NOVEL LENGTH FICS as small one shots now what is happening

I'm literally wheezing with laughter at one of the replies claiming that "100k+ fics tend to have better quality." No, 100k+ fics tend to have more of the idfic someone wants, which is not the same as "better quality" – because if it weren't hitting your narrative kinks, why would you keep reading something that long in the first place? "Quality" is very much in the eye of the beholder, and god knows I have seen many 100k+ fics that people clearly found narratively compelling, but which I thought were only adequately written at best.

Now, I will cheerfully admit to being someone who primarily writes stories under 10k words. I do not actually give the slightest fuck whether someone will refuse to read something that short, because we all want different things out of our fiction, right? And great, if you have the time to read 100k+ fics regularly, good for you, I'm glad you're enjoying yourself. But please don't kid yourself about whether a longer fic is objectively better than a shorter one, because that's not how any fiction of any kind works.

number two most important responsibility as a shixiong is training and protecting your shidi. number one responsibility is teaching him to jerk off

"They're obviously sibling/family-coded! Why would someone ship them? It's so gross!" Like, okay, first of all, they're friends. Friendship is a thing that exists. Romance or family are not the only two options. But also, idk how to tell you this, but people ship it because it's hot. Or because the dynamic is cool. Or because the concept of shipping them is funny. Or because it's fucked up and maybe that's hot. People will still ship it if you think it's gross. People will ship it even if you see the relationship as being familial. People would still ship it if those fictional characters were actually biologically related in canon. Because it doesn't matter what their relationship is in canon. Or how you perceive it to be in canon. It doesn't matter if they even met in canon. It doesn't matter if they're from the same universe or even the same franchise. People are going to ship it. Why? Because they can. Go find something else to do.
