oh no he's going! press pass! he's stocked up on spf and he's very excited to see green day and also watch you wander around in a tiny skirt lol. you're also tried to convince marianne and the other editors to let you book a stay at the trixie motel while you're there "because i mean really we might as well", but that one hasn't materialised unfortunately; that said, you and matty are spending a week in LA this summer doing lots of music-y things on the work credit card, so maybe you'll stay an extra few days and just go to the motel as a little getaway then?? idk yet. in terms of other AUs, it's kinda the last chance the bday party couple will get to do anything fun before a mini book tour and glasto prep begins, so they'll be there, and girlband gf is actually performing so you know ross will continue his groupie streak and be there - he will doubtless pie you off during green day, too caught up in teenage weird kid nostalgia with george and matty, but you think he's cutest when he's excited and also you have the girls to dance with so it's all good. but yes! the nerd is the most looking forward to it, bless him <3

just saw a tweet that says "as a man over 35, it's time to leave those young girls alone and get you a woman that can recognise the signs of a stroke" and honestly i think in d word au that's matty's only acknowledgement of his birthday today - he posts it to the insta story followed by a candid of girly captioned "it's fine, she's the label's designated first-aider" lmfao, and then MAYBE a pic of his birthday card from lyla in which she did a scribble instead of a signature and he says "thanks for the birthday wishes btw i'm having a good day" lol <3

honestly, in my drafts i have a half-written fic from two years ago about this that i'll never finish, so i'll tell you guys about it here now lol. basically, it's to do with defining the relationship to other people - given that people saw the two of you leave the party early together, one of the boys asks matty if you and him are still sleeping together, and matty says yes and then doesn't say anything else, and that somehow works its way to the girls as "oh you're friends with benefits". quite rightfully, you're pissed off, and after you and matty have been on different respective days out (him at the football, you at day drinks) and you're both alcohol-fuelled (not drunk. but even a couple of drinks is enough to heighten emotion) you give him the cold shoulder back at his and it leads to an argument while you're trying to get ready for bed; iirc there was an exchange where you were like "mate, just shut UP" and he was like "i'm not your fucking MATE" and you were like "well that's not what you've been fucking telling people, is it, matthew?", and the penny dropped for matty and he was like "oh. oh fuck". you shout, he shouts, you cry and question if he actually cares about you or if he's reluctant to be seen with you/change the dynamic, and he cries because that isn't the case at all, it's mostly because calling you his girlfriend doesn't feel proper enough for how deeply he loves you, because really you mean more to him than any other girlfriend he's ever had and it's different with you and what the hell is he meant to call you until it's the right time for it to be "wife". if anyone else said that to you, you'd probably think it's a copout answer, but you know matty too well to know he's being nothing other than deadly serious, and you just rest your head against his chest and murmur "i know. it doesn't feel right. but it's a start, and it won't make me feel like you don't want me", and matty hugs you even tighter and says "i've always wanted you. i always will. i love you, darling, i really, really love you. i'm so sorry i ever made you doubt that", and yeah it's all good after that. he's really very silly, but he truly does love you so much that it bewilders him a bit. sweet boy <3

i think you spend it up north, back home!! staying at your mum's house, which is also your childhood home - eilidh gets to sleep in your old room, which is fun until she spends the next morning complaining about how uncomfy your bed is, which leads to a minor tiff between you and your family because you made the same complaint for several years and they all think you've coached her to say it lol. anyway! you don't do present exchanging until brunch, when both your and ross's mums are present - keir drew everyone a picture (he's two and adorable), and he and his sister also got you lovely flowers, a fancy candle (like, a stupidly expensive one. ross just winks when you glare at him for spending so much money), a notebook embossed with your initials, and a mug with a pic of the two of them on it which is so cute it almost makes you cry. as it turns out, they do the mug idea for both their grandmothers, too, but their respective cousins on each side of the family are also in the pics; that genuinely does make your mum cry, all her grandkids in the photo, bless her. it's a nice day, so all of you end up having a wander in a nearby park - well, you and ross and your mums wander, and the kids tear ahead to go to the playpark bit lol - and then it's just you and ross and the babies for dinner, which funnily enough is at the same restaurant you had your first date in and is just so lovely, and then back for a little movie night at your mum's, with your sister and her kids. everyone's exhausted by the end of the day, but it's just lovely <3
