Hey remember when US and Russia was all like “We’re the best!!! We’ve won the space race!!!!” But India sent a kick-ass space probe to Mars and the whole mission was fuel efficient, costed less and a roaring success in the first try and then they were like “…..wait no that can’t be true” and still have the audacity to call us “underdeveloped” or only view us as a ‘third world country’? :)

For anyone who needs more info, the probe was called Mangalyaan (which literally means space probe vehicle) or Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) and you can also get more information here and here

Remember when NYT mocked India for this very thing and an TOI (a major indian newspaper) responded with this? :)

They were being racist asf and we were till respectful literally fuck you if you think ‘third world counties’ can’t be better than you

white people can and should reblog this

and shout out to the women engineers integral to the launch

“Indian staff from the Indian Space Research Organisation celebrate after the Mars Orbiter Spacecraft entered Mars’s orbit.

On November 5, 2013, a rocket launched toward Mars. It was India’s first interplanetary mission, Mangalyaan, and a terrific gamble. Only 40 percent of missions sent to Mars by major space organizations—NASA, Russia’s, Japan’s, or China’s—had ever been a success. No space organization had succeeded on its first attempt. What’s more, India’s space organization, ISRO, had very little funding: while NASA’s Mars probe, Maven, cost $651 million, the budget for this mission was $74 million.

This was not the only success of the mission. An image of the scientists celebrating in the mission control room went viral. Girls in India and beyond gained new heroes: the kind that wear sarees and tie flowers in their hair, and send rockets into space.”

The photo of the women looks like a baroque painting

Published in “Transvestia” magazine #38 (April 1966). I think original art could be by Bob Tupper.

not sure if anyone’s added this info here but because I wanted to know more I checked and….

Every issue of transvestia magazine, which ran from the 60’s through to the 80’s is available through the uVic archives. It was a groundbreaking publication for the crossdressing and later the transgender community. Check it out.

we really love that someone did a trans Tintin version of this

Divorce seems to radicalize american men in a way that needs to be studied

A divorced american man will join a right wing terror group because he didnt get custody of the kids he didnt take care of at all

An american man will have an affair with a colleague, get caught, get divorced, and join isis

Intelligent words from @junequeer

God, I love tumblr, its the only place where we can get a philosophical analysis of why divorcees crumble and it was in the tags. Like if not for the screenshot, 90% of people would miss this wisdom

My favourite thing about the D&D movie is it never stops trying to be a D&D movie even down to the most minute, unsung details. There's initiative order gags (I'll go last!) there's rolling a 1 gags (setting off the trap on the bridge by inexplicably just walking up to it) there's stat gags (nobody had high enough Intelligence to be in danger from the Intellect Devourers). Almost every spell is identifiable, from Xenk using smite to Sofina whipping out Finger of Death. Simon's character arc is about his self-confidence being tied to his mastery of magic because Charisma is the spellcasting stat for sorcerers. The era of movies based on games being afraid of their source material is over.

Anna Brown Ehlers (right) and her art, made using Chilkat weaving techniques. Ehlers is Tlingit, born and raised in Juneau

Chilkat weaving is the absolute pinnacle of fiber art, and Anna Brown Ehlers is *the* master weaver.

Japan has a system where skilled traditional craftspeople and performers are recognized as “Living National Treasures”. These are people who have mastered their art and ensure that traditional techniques are kept alive and passed on. The tangible objects they create are masterpieces of great value, but their intangible skills and knowledge are priceless. It is a great honor to be a Living National Treasure, and the Japanese government has a specific grant to subsidize these artists so that they can continue to create and enrich the culture of Japan.

Indigenous artists deserve this level of recognition and support. Anna Brown Ehlers and Jennie Thlunaut were both awarded heritage fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, but that is really insufficient recognition for the work they’ve done to preserve and revive and teach the art of Chilkat weaving. Not only the weaving technique, but also the art of formline design itself.

I have very strong emotions on this topic.

"if you have the time/energy to do something you like, then you have the time/energy to do something you dislike" -people who have apparently never felt desire before, and have no idea how it works

The thing I like: Makes me happy, low effort (because I like it), makes me happy.

The thing I dislike: Draining (because I don’t like it) Boring, Makes me sad.

Hope this helps ^^

thinking about when i got heat exhaustion at the House on the Rock and the experience was so overwhelming that i had a panic attack and thought i was hearing ghosts and genuinely fully believed i was going to die

which sounds like an overreaction, unless you've ever been to house on the rock and then you probably understand exactly what i'm saying.

imagine it's 90 some degrees and you havent had any water all day and you've just walked through not one, or two, but three fake towns,

past a 200 foot tall whale,

through multiple rooms of animatronics and mannequins,

and you havent seen sunlight for almost five hours and you're getting dizzy and then you walk through the mouth of a fake devil and end up staring at this

and this just goes on and on and on in a maze and every single one of these organs is playing music and some of them have animatronics on them playing and you can't find the exit and sweat is literally pouring off of you and finally you turn down another hallway and instead of an exit it looks like this

and at this point your vision is blurring and you feel like your heart is beating out of your chest but every turn just brings you to more h r geiger ass hallways of organs and theyre all still blaring

The thing about reclaiming slurs is that once you've been affectionally called 'faggot' by friends, loved ones, and amiable fellows on the internet for long enough, you almost forget that it means something else to people who hate you.

Honestly at this point if a stranger on the street yelled "hey faggot!" after me, I'd probably turn around like "what?" like they'd just casually called me by name, and they were only trying to get my attention because they wanted to tell me something, before processing that they're being hostile.
